What's new

jazz pick up CJ's option

Yea, I guess I haven't been here long. I ought to have had a CJ jersey BBQ night already, along with the required AK hate Kegger. Whoops. Maybe I won't be invited to the company hanging.

The list of players that get immensely worse in their prime and suddenly get immensely better after 30 is long. AK will just be another one of those guys.

Where from? That would seriously shock me, and you're right--they would be dumb not to bring him back at that price (even though I would greatly prefer a shorter contract).

Starting to believe he was making this up. :) Gotta believe he will look for at least 6-7 a year.

One thing I noticed from my highlights if there is a offensive rebound highlight it's usually off a miles shot because when he does miss he can miss badly. take a positive from a negative lol.

he also can make some pretty nice passes off drives, which i think we all agree wish he would do more

let me predict his season:

reg------min---fg--3pt
2007–08 11.5 .479 .390
2008–09 22.5 .459 .352
2009–10 23.8 .429 .341
2010–11 25.2 .407 .322

2011–12 26.1 .389 .304

i hope miles doesn't influence burks in any way.

Did anyone else not know that CJ's FG% and 3PT% has gone down each of the last years? That is ridiculous.

I wonder if AK wanted more money then the Jazz were willing to pay, so they resigned Cj, because Ak does way more to help a team win games.

With a number of good wings in the next draft and Utah having perhaps two lottery picks again, I'll bet the length of of contracts was equally important. CJ is signed for 1 more year. He can start at one wing position while Hayward starts at the other. Burks can come off the bench until he's ready to start. AK would have likely wanted a multi-year contract. And CJ has been willing to come off the bench, so if the Jazz want to start Burks and Hayward, CJ will happily chuck away as the 6th man. AK is a starter, regardless. Since the team is young and developing, I'd rather not see AK be re-signed and take minutes away from Hayward and Burks.

I didn't want to start a thread just to ask a question. What's the deal with Jeremy Evans contract? Didn't they have to extend his deal by July 1 also?

AK.
He plays the Wing Forward position, the Making Guard position, the Post Forward position, and the Flailing Layup Point Forward Center Cryer During Postseason Postgame Interviews position.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to JazzSpazz again.

Evans' contract was only for one season, so under the terms of the current CBA, the Jazz could have made him a restricted free agent by making him a qualifying offer by June 30. I assume they did this to cover their bases, although now it will depend on the new CBA whether the RFA designation still means anything.

Hoopshype is reporting that Evans was signed through three years (Millsap style).

How can there be any controversy about Miles terrible-ness? I'm in awe.

Emotions.

Some jazz fans have only been fans for a few years. To them, CJ is still "young" and "has potential"

to most of us old timers, we've seen players and we've seen slugs. Easy to spot which one CJ is.

He's drunk half the time, doesn't work hard, and is just happy to be in the league. Just like Fess.

Karl Malone, Duron Williams, John Stockton, Paul Millsap, Jeff Hornacek, come to mind as guys that were committed to working hard and winning basketball games.

The sooner we get rid of lazy *** cancers like CJ and Fess, the better off we'll be. We need to start this team up with a whole different attitude. Karl and John are gone. Unfortunately, we build our new house on sand, the AK and Boozer "leadership."

I hope that Hayward, Millsap, Kanter, Burks, Favors, etc rise up and become the leaders that we need to one day win a championship.

I have heard AK is asking for four years/ $4.5 million per year. At that price the Jazz would be dumb not to bring him back regardless of the CJ situation.
That would be fine IMO, especially if it's frontloaded as much as is allowed by the new CBA. Something like $5.2m, $4.7m, $4.3m, $3.8m would be perfect. AK is twice (thrice?) the player CJ is.

If he stays, I think he'll be our best wing next year (which isn't saying a whole lot.)
CJ is only marginally better than AK shooting the basketball, and, as far as I can tell, does absolutely nothing better than lil' Gordo. Paul Millsap is also a far better option than CJ at the 3. CJ should only get garbage time minutes at the 2 if AK is brought back and Burks isn't ready for minutes.
