Grayson Allen 2nd Season

Ooooffff

People be reading waaaayyyy too much into those two games imo.

For the rest of the nba season he looked at least a step slower both offensively and defensively than everyone else. Like a deer caught in headlights despite being older than most (maybe all) rookies. To me he looks like Mo Almond II/Quincy Lewis II.

Hope I’m wrong...

Hayward was pretty bad his first year, but had some nice games at the end much like Allen did this last year. I was more impressed with his 23 pt game as our starters played.

Yea I know it is two games but he had a few other moments. It is hard sitting on the bench for the whole game and getting 3 to 4 minutes at the end of the game or being pulled after a few minutes because he made a mistake. I just think it is too earlier to just give up on the kid.

My thoughts exactly. I want to know who the thriller is and how he is accessing my brain.

I just don’t get how a guy can play for coach k for years and still be so clueless on D.

Apples to oranges.

1. Grayson was older than Hayward. By at least two years if I’m not mistaken. Maybe three.
2. Hayward’s first season was a dumpster fire. Began with Rose blowing up Dwill’s ankle, encompassed Sloan quitting, and ended with Ty Corbin trying to coach Big Al or something. Don’t think even Spida would look half decent in that season.
3. Hayward still shot better than Allen. I get Allen sucking at defense. But his shot sucked too.
4. Hayward sucks at everything and should be stuck playing the rest of his career for lottery balls in Boston for what he did to us that one summer.

Looking forward to seeing him at Summer League this year. Generally you can get a pretty good idea of whether a 2nd year player is going to be an impactful player or just another inconsistent bench player by the way they play in SL after a year in the NBA. Jazzfanz favourite whipping boy Dante even looked good in Summer League in his stints there after his rookie season, although getting hurt as per the unfortunate norm for him now days.

Hoping Allen shows more Exum-esuqe improvement than the Lyles "I'm the 2nd year guy I'm chucking every shot I can" improvement which was just volume chucking.

What if he ends up in Memphis and gets Chandler Parsoned? Things are trendy to get worse and worse for him the farther he gets from his all-star season, and that appears next on the trajectory.

Chandler who? ;)

As long as Hayward remains completely irrelevant and wondering “what if” for the rest of his life that’s good enough for me.

Had he stayed, we wouldn’t be talking about finding another shooter. he’d still be overpaid but at least could serve as mitchell’s Robyn.

That contract along with that injury and disappointing recovery is a tough one to trade, right? Even by Parson’s standards, right?

If Ainge somehow unloads that for a bag of Doritos, give him Executive of the Century.

From what Ive read Boston is going to have to blow things up but remain stuck with Hayward.

I think he has much higher upside than people think. He got to his spots really well last season, but had trouble finishing the play. Also had trouble finishing at the rim, especially through contact, which is normal for a rookie. His on ball defense also wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but his off ball defense needs some work. Gets caught ball watching and loses his man sometimes. I think he will be a consistent rotation player this season.
Exactly, off-ball defense, aka he doesn't seem to know what he's doing on D at times. Surprising considering that he played for Coach K for four years.

Allen was pretty bad at both but he did at least show progress with the on ball defensive stuff from what I saw. I think he's always going to have some size limitations on him too with the on ball stuff, he's one of the smallest 6'3/6'4 dudes that I can remember watching in the last 10 years or so. Like he's taller than Donovan Mitchell but Mitchell just looks way bigger on screen than Allen does.

I'm in a wait and see approach. Cautiously optimistic after what I saw from him at the end of the season. I think that he slowly showed some improvement after a terrible start to the season.

The fact that Hayward shot better means absolutely nothing to me. If you don’t like the Hayward example, how about his fellow duke buddy Redick. He sucked his first few years

Cool!

Do you really want to open that can of worms of Duke players who looked good in college and sucked in the NBA? For every one JJ Redick there’s ten Tayjan Langdons. Do you really want to do this? :)

I thought he was horrific. Gawd awful defense and the Jazz offense just cratered with him on the floor. Yeah, he might have improved a bit as the year went on, but his early impressions just stick with me. He'll have to get leaps and bounds better to just be a rotation guy. Right now he's Jimmer without the shot.

If allen can hit 3’s at a respectable rate, of perhaps 40%, i’m more than happy with him being a benchie who comes in for 5-10 mins per game and throws a few shots up.
Our D can make up for his lack of this if he can hit 3’s at a decent rate.
Otherwise , he’s of little use to anyone...
Mitchell unfortunately won’t get to 40% with the number of attempts he takes per game as I just don’t think he’s a very good 3 point shooter so let’s have him concentrate on another role and the Ingles’s of the world, our new PG (hopefully) or stretch 4 can take outside shots and Mitch can do his thing and perhaps, so can Allen

Based off of his late season success, I wonder if Grayson would have more value for Charlotte. Being a Duke product, maybe Charlotte looks for a buy cheap option to add much needed affordable offense.

There are numerous 2 and 3 team trade scenarios with Charlotte which could make sense for us.
