Jazz gave up a lot for potentially only one year of Conley. I think the risk he opts out and the Jazz are forced to either a) lose him or b) sign him to a big 4-year deal is understated. If you assume AD stays in LA, Conley & Draymond look to be the best potential UFAs in the 2020 class. If he has a good year, there's very little reason for Conley not to opt out and trade some 2020-21 salary for much more $$ long-term.

The advanced metrics don't like Bojan. The BBIndex guy had the Jazz w/52 wins w/Favors and 48 w/Bojan. I get the idea that you can find 80% of Favors (Davis) more cheaply than you find a high quality stretch 4, and I understand there are fit issues w/Derrick next to Gobert. Still, I think the contract is poor value, and it's hard for me to picture a frontcourt with the athleticism of Bojan/Ingles advancing super deep into the playoffs.

I think Green and especially Davis were good pickups. I guess there's something to be said for mixing things up and taking a shot, but I suspect the Jazz will bow out in Round 2. They haven't done anything franchise crippling, but they've sacrificed some long-term assets and flexibility and not greatly enhanced their chances of winning the West, imo.

Hope I'm wrong.

I honestly like this post.

Good to see someone pump the brakes a bit.

B+ to A-

Plug the hole at PF and it's an A+

So, @Jason @Pastramiking @Pouyan @themanknownassting and @campaignist

Why a B? What is missing for you to consider this at least an A? Where can we improve?

Honest question. Not a trap lol

NPC laid out a lot of my reasoning but I'm more optimistic. I'm just not 100% sold on Bojan, especially for the deal he got. It feels like we got a better version of Jingles in a way (not a bad thing) but I think we'll miss Favors more than we realize. For example he helped make our matchup with Denver a lot easier, and now I'm not sure. They're one of our main competitors this year so that's a big deal. Our offense is a lot better but I'm worried about the defense and rebounding. Maybe scoring more makes up for that. There's a reason Jeff Green has bounced around so much - fans need to be ready for him to look amazing every fifth game and mediocre to bad the other 4.

I definitely trust the front office and I've had more faith in them than most for a long time. Maybe I'm just irrationally attached to Favors, and I wanted to see how he'd look with Conley on the team, and how the offense in general would look. Maybe Bojan just wasn't what I had in mind this season. I think a lot of people wanted change for change's sake at 4 and I didn't need it as much. I'm cautiously optimistic and I need to see the team in action.

Bojan is more explosive than Joe. Ed Davis is one of the leagues best rebounders so don't worry too much

No I'm saying backup centers help with rings when they can be impactful

Of course. But we are not discussing whether he can be on a title team or help win a title.
The question is whether Ed Davis can win you a title.

I believe he can help contribute attributes required to winning a ring but he can't do it single handedly. He has really great traits

May take a couple years, but I think Brantley can be a starting stretch playmaking 4
Maybe but that's my concern. We have great to spectacular starters at every position right now, except the 4, and at the 4 we don't really even have anyone basically serviceable. Need at least something of an upgrade there. Can't see bojan filling that, he'd get killed by most true 4's in the league, but my bet is that is what the FO intends. Also I know we are signing dudes at the min but we have taken in more than a couple of projects. Not many championship teams consist of 2-3 all-stars surrounded by 3 or 4 projects. Need at least one or 2 solid vets to fill the gaps. Don't get me wrong I'm ecstatic we finally decided to make those moves we've needed for years. I'm just tempering my expectations and realising we are more likely a 2nd round team now, maybe WCF, but not really a full contender. I hope we are, and I could absolutely be wrong about this with so many unknowns right now, but I don't think so.

GS’s team has been filled with ear young projects you speak of.

Not so much, how does Livingston compare to, say, Exum, or Mudiay. Also it's a bit different when you are running out top-3 guys at their position, perennial all-stars at multiple positions, and perennial MVP candidates. You can absorb that when you have 2 (and it was 3 for a couple of years there) of the maybe 4 guys on the planet capable of going like 9 for 14 from 3 and dropping 40+ on any given night.

I’ve been reading a few comments and people really think we gave up too much for Conley? Based on that move alone this off-season was an A.

Then you add us signing the Pacers second leading scorer for 18m a year. Then sign Ed Davis, Jeff Green and Emmanuel Mudiay? This has been the best offseason in Utah Jazz history. It’s not even close either.

My friend who is a huge basketball fan texted me surprised that Jeff Green was still available and we got him on a minimum deal. We’re not done yet either that’s the insane part. I’d bet we sign atleast one more player to a minimum deal and it will be another great signing.

Kawhi going to anywhere but the Lakers puts as as the title favorites as crazy as that sounds. Even if he does go to the Lakers I like our chances with them in a 7-game series.

Conley is underrated on JF and I’m not surprised because the entire league underrated him but he is really ****ing good. The amount of pressure he is going to take off of Mitchell and he can actually get a bucket when we need one instead of scoring droughts for minutes at a time.

The splash uncles Bojan and Ingles shot 41% from 3 on 10.7 attempts per game combined last season. It’s our time, no need to be modest we have a legit shot to win the title this season.
