Shooting Extends one Career...So Gobert...

He just really needs a hook shot. He needs to be setting screens 10 feet out from the basket than rolling. That puts far more pressure on a defense than him standing out there taking midrange shots. Back when the Jazz would whoop San Antonio, that was the gameplan, to goad their big men into taking 10-15 foot jumpers, and they were GOOD at making that shot. It was a lower percentage shot and diminished the chance of an offensive rebound by the big.

Agreed. He needs to make his strength stronger, not change course. Right now, he doesn’t have a way to attack a mismatch (a hook shot, for example) which will be critical against switching defenses and he could improve his non-dunk conversion around the rim. Maybe adding a shot worth taking (and worth guarding) is worth it in a few years.

Are you serious or you need glasses? At the end of the day we are talking mid range jumpers it could be 10 ft or 20 ft. 14-18 is just random range and there is plenty of shots from that range in Chamberlain video. Rudy has made pretty much no mid range shots in his career. He needs to develop it.

Yet you said there is none from 14-18ft range.. go back and rewatch at least last minutes, 5:17, 5:31, 5:58... all are close to FT line or a bit away from it. FT line jumper is 15FT jumper.

Why? It would help his game and our offense tremendously. Not saying he needs to shoot 5 -7 of them per game but to take a few and make some would make us unstopable.

not when he release the ball He gets to that distance with his body when he's come back to earth

Gobert doesnt even have good form for shooting mid-range shots as a big. He has a slow low release. Guys could contest that shot so damn easily if Gobert ever showed he could hit it.

Because mid-range shots are the worst shot in basketball, AND you’d be absolutely mitigating what makes Gobert special without benefit of spacing. I’d rather have him work on a shot worth more points and actually spreads the floor than mid-range rubbish.

He would have to take and make a few mid-range shots at near-historic efficiency (at least equal to his insanely high FG%) for it to be worth what’s lost by him leaving the basket. In other words, it would be an absolute mistake.
