Are there any past Jazz player's number would the organization retire?

The irrational thought that AK was good is also astounding. He would have been good but the HOF coach didnt use him right. Sloan and the system was there when he played and made the all-star team as well. The reason he got worse every year after that was because he pouted about his role and didnt work hard to improve. When the Jazz got 3 players that were better than him he should have elevated his play and fit in, he did not. Or the idea that AK would be so good in todays NBA as a small 4 is silly as well. AK could not shoot. If he could shoot he would have been great for us back then. Unfortunate he was more worried about his video games and books. He stopped caring once he got paid.
 
With the standard currently established I think AK and Dwill should get their numbers retired. In an ideal world only Stockton/Malone would have their numbers retired.
 
When AK got his contract, I believe Larry H said he wasn't a max player yet, but would be. AK was a special talent defensively. but you're right, Ron; he couldn't shoot. He MAY have fit better as a 4 in today's game. But he was too scrawny to play the 4 when there were true POWER forwards. And he couldn't shoot well enough to be a great SF. He was a tweener in the NBA. Internationally, he could play the 4 but not in the NBA.

It was frustrating to watch him waste the talent. It was frustrating to watch him play hard for his national team but coast and disappear for the Jazz. I really liked AK and he made me a bigger fan of the Jazz and brought back interest for me. In fact it was probably him that caused me to start posting on Jazzfanz. But its silly that people think its sloans fault he dropped off and couldnt live up to his contract or anywhere near it. That was all on AK, he just didnt have the attitude to be a great player.

Really? Not Pistol Pete or AD? Those guys are FAR superior to DWill and AK. And defensively, Eaton put up some amazing numbers.
I might agree Griifith and Hornacek are suspect. Griffith played 10 years for the Jazz, though. DWill only 5 1/2, not to mention him deciding to ignore Sloan and run his own plays. No way does he deserve to have his jersey retired. Kirilenko at <12pts. 31% 3pt FG%. He had 3 great seasons, when he averaged over 15 pts and 3 blks, but he sharply declined thereafter. Need to have sustained greatness to be eligible. AK may have had a shot had he had a shot, and a decent attitude.
 
I don't think any of those players deserve their numbers retired. If Millsap had stayed with the Jazz then he would have gotten my vote. However, I think years on the team, team success, and individual awards/performance (among top players in the league) should be considered when deciding if a player deserves to have his jersey retired. A player cannot be the fourth best player on the team and have his jersey retired. Neither can they have 3 good years and then decline. i.e. AK

Right now the two players who have potential to have their jersey retired are Rudy and Donovan. If they remain with the Jazz throughout their career or at least 10 plus years, continue with their production, have a few all-star appearances and compete for championships then I think they will warrant having their jersey retired. Rudy's 2 DPOY awards already make him a strong candidate. Of course when the Jazz win the championship then they automatically become eligible.

If you look at some players who's jerseys are already retired by the Jazz and where AK ranks in all time Jazz stats list compared to them he should be absolutely considered.

It’s super rational realism! I loved AK on the Jazz. So fun to watch when not pouting. Top 5 for me when he tried and went after it. He coulda been a contender! He coulda been somebody!
 
Maybe AK or D-Will, but honestly none of them. Also I love Jeff but his number never should have been retired.

I irrationally would love to retire Favs jersey, it feels so strange seeing someone else wear #15. Favs doesn’t warrant it except for the irrational sentimental feelings, I’d support it if they wanted to though. I love Derrick.

You’re funny lol. I think Rudy is approaching it for sure. I also think regardless of that Donovan’s going to warrant getting his number retired if he continues doing Donovan things.
 
I’d consider AK and Favors. I can be convinced either way. To the rest no.

And keep in mind I feel that Sloan MUST have a statue, with an ice pick in one hand, alongside Stockton and Malone. AND that the trio of Mitchell, Gobert and Snyder have already earned their own trio of statues on the other side of the entry way.

Others to consider:
Boozer (6 years, 2 All-star, 1 or 2 time Olympics). I vote no, but it is closer than any other player
Ron Boone. I could see this happening. Has been very important for basketball in Utah and involved with the Jazz for many, many years.
David Locke. When all is said and done, I expect he will get something retired (assuming he stays with the team for the next 30 years)
Rudy. If he has similar impact as last year (All-star or all-NBA or DPOY) then he is a yes. Even if he never plays again.

Putting Boozer on that list is a disgrace. All of the guys on the original list and Memo would deserve it before Boozer.

I'd consider Memo and AK. But both of them should be a no, everybody else on this list is not close.

From 10 major stats AK is on 9 of them and in top 5 in 5 of them. Compare to Hornacek ( 4 lists and not single top 5) and it is not even fair.

Ak was with the team a long time. Those are total stats. He shouldn't automatically make the list just for having played for the team a long time. Hornacek had more impact on winning during his time here, that said I disagreed with him making it. Malone, Stockton, Maravich, Eaton and Dantley should be the only guys on the list. Hornacek, AK, Memo, Griffith, Thurl and Favors could be put in the ring of fame though. Maybe a few others in this category.
 
Come on guys! Rudy is not a candidate! He is for sure the next player. Even if he have to stop his career now, there is no doubt about his Jersey. He won 2 DPOY guys! Not one, but two! And multiple all team nba. By himself alone, he give a identity to the jazz!!!jazz DNA is not just Rudy but begins by him. Few players can have such an impact. After rudy, not sure we will see a jazz player like him before a long time. We won't have a Eaton or Gobert every year or 5 or 10 years in the team. It's so rare, we wait more than 20 years to see it again. We are so fortunate to live in the Gobert - Mitchell era and have them in the team.
