The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

Right, and she has a point. It's one you are free to disagree with, but it hardly makes her clueless about the EC.
That's just bringing up one of the dumb things she's said about it.

She didn't know the three branches of government either so I hardly think of her as an expert on anything. She routinely tweets dumb, divisive **** too.

Not my cup of tea I guess.

Healthy democracies include more than just elections. Abiding by the law while in office is important, acting in the publics interest is as well. Demonization and degradation of political opponents is something harmful to democracy that Trump engages in. Disregard for the truth and constant lying is another example of Trump behavior that is detrimental to democracy.

Our "democracy" is still intact even if people break the law. If you think the president is a liar and a criminal, then there are ways to get a new president in there. Democracy is just fine.
And I don't accept your premise. I realize you hate Trump and will call him a liar and a criminal, but I completely disagree.

Eliminating the EC has been bandied about for longer than I've been alive.
It takes a constitutional amendment. So far, the process to do it has never even been started.
AOC can bellow about it all she wants. Won't amount to anything. She's just one of over 400 House members. She has no real power.

The three branches thing was a pretty funny gaffe, I'll admit. But you still haven't provided any proof that the EC thing was dumb. I think you're mistaking things you disagree with with her being dumb, based on a lack of understanding of where she's coming from.

There's a narrative on the right that AOC is this incredibly stupid person, but the evidence for that is pretty wanting.

Out of curiosity, would you consider someone who graduates summa *** laude from an ivy league school as an intelligent person? I seem to remember you having similar beliefs regarding Ben Shapiro.

Well, let's take a look at what you linked to. Please agree or disagree with each point, and explain why (noting that since "scam" was in scare quotes, it's not an actual point):

  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called the Electoral College "a scam" that undercounts voters of color in a series of Instagram Stories on Monday.
  • "Due to severe racial disparities in certain states, the electoral college effectively weighs white voters over voters of color, as opposed to a 'one person, one vote' system where all our voters are counted equally," she wrote.
  • She pointed to data, cited in a New York magazine story, that African-American, Hispanic, and Asian-American voters are underrepresented by the Electoral College compared with white Americans.
  • This isn't the first time Ocasio-Cortez has pushed for eliminating the Electoral College. She made headlines last fall when she called to get rid of the system, describing it as a vestige of slavery.

Do the electoral college vote totals under represent people of color, overall? Is that because of the severe racial disparities in various states? Did she accurately cite the New York magazine story? Is not this system in fact a vestige of slavery?

Where is she wrong, beside the word in scare quotes?

Excuse me if I'm wrong but doesn't the EC protect us from the tyranny of the majority? Lol

OC is not in the same ballpark if intelligence as Ben Shapiro and Shapiro says some pretty dumb partisan ****.

I don't think she's dumb compared to the average American. However, as someone with a voice, she spews a lot of garbage, things that are divisive and fake news.

She tweeted about making sure people got paid for daylight saving times. **** like that makes my laugh. Yeah, businesses owe money to their workers for hours not worked. Sounds real logical. What's next, businesses demand workers to work an extra hour in the spring?

Her point about daylight savings was for hourly people who worked through the time change-that is worked 9 hours instead of 8- to double check their time cards and make sure their time was recorded correctly.

So yeah, I guess I can see how you could think she's stupid if you completely misunderstand what she says. This is the second example in a row of you calling her stupid for saying something you didn't understand.

That's not what it does and not what it was designed to do.

I've heard that in part it was a logistical thing before electronic communications existed, but I don't know that that really has anything to do with it.

What it does is take some power away from higher population states and gives it to lower population states.

That's a big reason why we have a House and a Senate. Smaller population states didn't want to join a union with larger population states if their power was only related to their populations. So Congressional representation is based on population but Senate representation is set at two per state. The EC votes are equal to the total number of Congressional representatives and Senators your state has. So it gives some extra power to lower population states. That is the purpose.

The question is if that is still beneficial to our society now?

I worked the night shift during daylight savings. My normal 12.5hr shift became a 13.5hr shift. I have worked the night of daylight savings maybe around 10 times (some going to DST some the other way). The companies I have worked for have always paid for all hours worked, but it is often a question for people when they are working that shift for the first time. The companies I have worked for have also always paid the full 12hrs even when the shift is only 11.5 because we're moving the clocks forward, but I doubt they are obligated to do that.

I'm sure some smaller companies and especially companies that hire a lot of immigrants try to short their employees.

To each their own, but calling it "shorting" employees for an make belief hour worked is some entitlement complex I won't begin to understand.
