The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

Does anyone in this thread actually have an opinion or is it going to be nothing but retweets from either far-left or far right talking heads?

Nobody makes a compelling case either way with such a limited perspective.

Dude, I don’t know, but let me tweetstorm you a bunch of things I agree with.

My opinion is that Biden is an old crappy candidate and that trump is an old much crappier candidate.

Basically, America sucks really really bad at producing presidential candidates.

but doesn’t that stem from Americans electing terrible people to serve in government? Presidential candidates don’t just pop out of a factory. They typically start at the local level, work their way up through government, and then run for president. Right? So if our pool of candidates is poor, don’t we warrant at least part of the blame? What can be done so voters elect better people?

Furthermore, aren’t parties supposed to act as regulators for our elections? If our winning candidate is a poor candidate, what can we do to change the party so it’s vetting mechanism is better?

I know a common complaint over the last few years has been the role of money in politics. If most of us agree that money has a toxic influence on our elections, why don’t we show it with how we’re communicating to our representatives? Instead of getting hung up on divisive wedge issues, like prayer in schools and abortion, why not seek for unity as a populace and flood reps with requests to minimize or eliminate the influence of money? I mean, just think how much time and energy was spent debating Hillary’s damn emails in 2015-2016 as opposed to most of the issues we’ve discussed 2017-2020. Why are we allowing ourselves to become distracted by these topics? In the same vein, how many Americans can name who their state Reps and governor are? Who can name their congressional representatives and two senators? Yet ask them to name the members of kardashian family. Ask them to name all the utah jazz roster. And we wonder why our democracy is a mess when people are too damn lazy to learn the basics about their own government? We want all the benefits of living in a functioning democracy (the hardest form to run) by putting forth less time and effort than we would in watching a brainless family of porn stars and sports.

I don’t think we should just say, “America sucks at xyz.” If we’re unhappy with our democracy, then let’s seek for ways to improve it.

Seriously if you polled utah, what do you think would get a higher score?

poll 1:
Who’s Utah’s gov? (Herbert)
Who are Utah’s 2 senators? (Lee and Romney)
Who’s your representative? (Bishop, Curtis, McAdams, Stewart)

vs

Poll 2:
Who coaches the Utah Jazz?
Name 3 Jazz players:

I bring this up because lately I’ve been reading the book called, “Amusing ourselves to Death” which I've found you be extremely relevant for today. We are so eager to be entertained rather than informed that we’ve elected a damn reality tv star to be our president. Ask most Americans the last non-fiction book they’ve read and you might wait minutes for them to respond. Then ask them about the last reality tv show they just watched and you’ll probably get an endless burst of conversation about Tiger King. And I’m not exempt to this. I waste way too much time on entertainment than on stuff that matters.

this is having detrimental effects on a society whose form of government relies upon people being engaged and well informed.

Karen Stenner talks about why authoritarianism is popping up all over liberal democracies and why. Her research shows that 1/3rd of people are predisposed to authoritarian tendencies. It is the job of the other 2/3rd to either outvote these people or help them to feel comfortable in wanted or else the 1/3rd will wreck democracy. While I’m still wondering how to bring a sense of community to America in 2020, I do know how to outvote people. Which is what Democrats must do from now until the fall. Mobilize as many Democrats and independents as possible to outvote the MAGA crowd. We might not win them over this year (they might be gone to the Trump cult forever) but we sure as hell can outvote them. In the long term, we need to bring a sense of community and equality back to our towns and cities or our democracy might be lost.

This forum may be skewing your perception of Utah’s Jazz knowledge. I assure you people are just as clueless about the Jazz as they are about local government.

Man, he hit this one on the head.

yes, clearly someone hit him on the head.

hard.

What trump minions don’t realize is that the rest of the world sees this sort of boastful masculinity as a simple manifestation of their deep insecurities. I guess we really should pity them.

but yes, only real men bow before a narcissistic new age Mussolini.

Hey I just want to say to y’all who believe everything trump says. Please don’t inject yourselves with Lysol.

I mean, just because you are gullible and blindly follow the guy who is hurting our country, we still don’t want to see you sick or dead.

please don’t inject the Lysol.
