Jazz Sign Rayjon Tucker

Those saying Tucker has proven to play at this level, has he actually logged NBA minutes? If he has, I'm assuming he played well. If so, that's exciting.

If you're equating g-league level of play with NBA level play then you're not being honest with yourself.

He hasn’t played at all. It’s funny because a lot of people are invoking Ingles and O’Neale, which is fine and if you’re being optimistic he hits that level, but that’s years away and you zoom out and look at the idea that we’re supposed to be contenders yet we’re opening roster spots for G League guys, when the guys we already have haven’t played. A lot of people tickling the FO’s assholes but would also be crucifying homeytennis if he suggested something like this, or had a good laugh about how homey is being homey.

This is a great point and hits hard.

We were supposed to be contenders.

I can't think of a more hyped off-season in a long, long, time.

We're kind of like the Browns (except the Browns failed expectations far worse.)

From contenders and dark-horse championship contenders to opening up G-League spots.

Kinda feel how the fan version of Manziel feels.

Counterpoint- if Tucker were on the Stars we'd have seen just as much or more clamoring to get him moved up as we have Brantley.

Very good post. Just because something is “new” doesn’t mean it’s going to be amazing.

I like that we’re making moves. Clearly, I was fed up with Dante years ago and with Green weeks ago. I’m glad we’re moving on from them. But I’m under no suspicion that Tucker and Clarkson are going to be the next Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade. One is essentially Alex Burks and the other one is completely unknown. The hope is that Tucker is a guard who can give us good backup mins so Mitchell and/Jingles don’t have to play 38+ mins each game. If Tucker can just be Austin Rivers (even this is probably way too optimistic), I think that’s a huge win for us.

We’re a first or second round exit. But I’m still excited about Rayjon. DL is good at this kind of thing.

Jazz have frittered away draft pick after draft pick. I imagine they’re hoping to strike gold with somebody in the g league, maybe a chance to accumulate assets if a couple pan out.

But win now doesn’t give young players a chance to gain playing time and experience. One thing, though, after these moves everybody should be looking over their shoulder. I could see Williams-Goss getting waived, maybe Oni too.

Are we expecting him to be as good as this season's Royce or Joe, though? I don't think it's much of a reach to expect him play well and contribute like Royce and Joe did in their first seasons. Tucker will be a bench piece so it's okay if he isn't as good as Ingles is right now.

Most draft picks are garbage. You may your best guess and hope they develop and if it doesn't work out then you move on. A bad team would fall apart after every bad draft pick. The Jazz have gotten better despite bad choices.

Maybe, but I don’t think that’s nearly as relevant to the context. We were at our roster max when Davis went down and it was apparent we needed immediate help then, yet the company line was that we weren’t going to make moves. This summer, we grabbed three second rounders that we’re reportedly high on. None of them are playing, so they’re being relegated to “developmental” guys. So while it’s apparent that we need some help, and there were several known-quantity vets out there (sure, you could make counter points against any of them), we instead waive Stanton Kidd to lock up another developmental guy we really want. So now we’ve got 4 developmental guys, plus whatever the hell NWG is supposed to be. So now after all the “this is fine” mantras the FO put out, they go and shake up the roster. We take a guy whose in the rotation, and the only four by size (I have plenty of problems with Green and wasn’t super excited about getting him, but the reality is that he’s in the rotation), and we replace his roster spot with another developmental guy who’s never played an NBA minute.

So we’re supposedly contenders but we’re dropping rotational pieces for developmental prospects. Yes, Green wasn’t playing very well, but there’s no known commodity, and if we’re appealing to DL’s ability to find another Joe or Royce, then we’re essentially asking him to hit a grand slam if we’re to assume someone is coming in to be a good rotational piece. However, it does have the making for a perfect out, where some can subtly imply that this is an answer, but if/when we continue to struggle with the bench and don’t have great answers, someone can retort, “lol, he’s a rookie, what’d you expect?” as if they weren’t the ones setting that expectation to begin with.

I think they are slow rolling a plan. The team may be bad for a month or two.

By the way, if nothing makes sense at the 4, it’s because we’re clearing **** so JZ can reunite with his bro. Giannis.

Any chance the Jazz are trying to package enough assets together to get Favors back from New Orleans? They have to be making these moves to get a backup big man, since that is our biggest weakness.
