What's new

Jazz Sign Rayjon Tucker

It's highly doubtful Brantley plays. We've used a 9 man rotation almost exclusively all season. It's looking like the 4 off the bench will be Mudiay/Clarkson/Niang/Davis for now. When Conley comes back the 4 off the bench will likely be Mudiay/Clarkson/Oneale/Davis OR Clarkson/Oneale/Niang/Davis. Whoever is on the 12 man between Brantley and Tucker will just be riding pine. Good chance Brantley might even be back on the Stars because of the two way contract rules.

I agree with the rest of what you said however.
One thing I have noticed is the amount of the starter's minutes and I'm wondering if this means that Quin is going to lengthen the rotation a bit to allow the starters some rest or at least less minutes for awhile.

If our 1st-rd pick is going to be in the 23-25 range, maybe that too. I think this Rayjon Tucker kid is comparable to a guy like Donte DiVincenzo, Grayson Allen or Lonnie Walker. He's shown he can play at this level.
If this dude can play defense like DiVincenzo has shown he can, then we have an absolute steal. But, nah, I want to keep as many 1st rounders as possible, even in the 23-25 range.

I remember seeing some kid just tore up the SLC Stars (I follow them very, very losely.) I'm wanting to say it was him.

I've watched some highlights of him and he looks like a solid ball player and is really athletic. I hope we give him and a few other Star players a chance to play with the big boys.

Those saying Tucker has proven to play at this level, has he actually logged NBA minutes? If he has, I'm assuming he played well. If so, that's exciting.

If you're equating g-league level of play with NBA level play then you're not being honest with yourself.

He hasn’t played at all. It’s funny because a lot of people are invoking Ingles and O’Neale, which is fine and if you’re being optimistic he hits that level, but that’s years away and you zoom out and look at the idea that we’re supposed to be contenders yet we’re opening roster spots for G League guys, when the guys we already have haven’t played. A lot of people tickling the FO’s assholes but would also be crucifying homeytennis if he suggested something like this, or had a good laugh about how homey is being homey.

This is a great point and hits hard.

We were supposed to be contenders.

I can't think of a more hyped off-season in a long, long, time.

We're kind of like the Browns (except the Browns failed expectations far worse.)

From contenders and dark-horse championship contenders to opening up G-League spots.

Kinda feel how the fan version of Manziel feels.

Counterpoint- if Tucker were on the Stars we'd have seen just as much or more clamoring to get him moved up as we have Brantley.

Very good post. Just because something is “new” doesn’t mean it’s going to be amazing.

I like that we’re making moves. Clearly, I was fed up with Dante years ago and with Green weeks ago. I’m glad we’re moving on from them. But I’m under no suspicion that Tucker and Clarkson are going to be the next Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade. One is essentially Alex Burks and the other one is completely unknown. The hope is that Tucker is a guard who can give us good backup mins so Mitchell and/Jingles don’t have to play 38+ mins each game. If Tucker can just be Austin Rivers (even this is probably way too optimistic), I think that’s a huge win for us.
