What's new

Jeff Green has been waived

I know that, but I think Donovan and Rudy are too nice. The league has changed but if you want to win hold your guys accountable. Jerry, John, Karl would have called the effort our bench is giving out in a second and would have done it to their face. You should hold your teammates accountable. He wasn't being a good teammate. He was part of what was causing you both to play over 35 minutes a night and clean up a terrible mess every time the bench was out there, and much of it was because he wasn't giving effort or being disciplined with what he was doing out there on the court.
One of the buzzwords duing interviews is accountability. They are often in the face of each other, constantly talking and showing what is right. I don't think it's nowhere near a problem.

Yes, we all asked for changes. That doesn't mean waiving one of your 10 best players to sign a Gleaguer is smart. Even worse... we don't even plan to play that gleague player that we were apparently desperate to sign. This is Juwan Morgan all over again. We sign them. Then we sit them so they can look pretty on the pine.

Green could have worked as a bench player here with the right pieces next to him. He played a bunch of minutes next to Davis and Niang which was not a good pair to put next him in order to showcase his strengths and minimize his weaknesses. He's a real NBA caliber player who could have helped us in a playoff series.

Sorry I can't bring myself to get excited to watch Tucker added to our collection of young players who will never play while Niang plays more and sucks on a whole new level. Just not exciting to me.
I strongly disagree that he could help in a playoff series. He was a terrible defender who was also super streaky. Not sure he was really one of our 10 best players as he was a negative on the court most of the time.

nah dude .. i mean even worse We have zero size or strength Is our plan really to just try to out shoot other teams now
Green had size but doesn't use it defensively. And as for strength, Niang and Brantley both have Green on that one. Our bench defense sucked, our bench offense sucked. Hopefully the moves today changes the offense, as for the defense hard to be much worse.

FWIW TJ is implying they may in fact plan on playing the guy. Didn't say he'd actually play but that he should be in uniform on Thursday

All things said about Ingles including not an actual nba player yada yada yada. Look at his per 36 mins. He’s averaging 11 min a game. Hard to get in a rhythm within the offense and flow of a game playing that many minutes. Once he’s playing 20-25 min all his numbers will go up.

11 min? look at his last 13 games going back to Nov 25. He's averaging over 15 min and a lot of games he's close to 20 min.

I’m having a little trouble with the timing. No matter how you look at it, trading or waiving somebody 2 days before Christmas is cold as f. Just brutal.

I used to think this as well, until I was laid off from my previous job on December 22. They did it then because I was planning to use vacation time during the next week, so they figured it would be better to get it over with so they could pay me the vacation time instead of me using it and laying me off afterwards. I got to enjoy the holidays, and it was awesome!

In Green's case, it was nice that it was done in the city in which he lives and where his family is. Plus we are likely still paying him, so basically he gets the holidays off and can figure out the rest of his life in the new year. Not a bad deal!

I really liked Green the first couple of games with us, but it just hasn't worked out. Time for all to move on. I'll be interested to see how all these changes work out. I refuse to panic yet.

13.7 points per game (46% from the field and 42% from 3)
5.2 rebounds
1.3 assists
0.5 steals
0.4 blocks
1.7 turnovers
70% from the line on 1.3 attempts.

So like has been said before, the problem with niang is that he does one thing and one thing only. Shoot threes.
Doesn't rebound, doesn't defend, doesn't create, doesn't get to the line, isn't a screener.....
His list of good skills is a list of one. His list of bad attributes goes on and on.

And the one good skill is extremely easy to stop if the opponents ever get scared of niang going off (lol). Just stay by him and you render him useless for the most part.

He has 3 AST in his last 11 games. 3!

He has 10 AST the WHOLE SEASON. In 25 appearances.

I’m still having some trouble giving this positive spin. Green was not worse than Niang or Davis. We have **** for 4s and he was the closest thing we had to one. He had to have asked out. That’s bad.

And how is adding two combo guards an answer to this?
I don't think the combo guards are meant to be an answer for this. They are an answer to Conley's injury and Donovan's/Joe's heavy minutes.

The answer to our power forward problem is going to have to come from somewhere else. I am skeptical that more Niang and Brantley are going to be an improvement but that seems to be the gamble barring any additional moves.

The Conley trade totally screwed us. Imagine how good this team would be with adding Bogey and having Faves/Crowder off the bench.
IMHO you do not trade for a player like Conley to take the basketball out of his hands. Use him and Donovan properly and lots of things Will start to clinch.
This one thing is in Coach's court.

Full agreement except for the "asked out" part. If Green's demands were the impetus behind it, it only stands to reason that they would have negotiated a buy-out. Reports are that he walked with the full 2.5 mil.

What's the league worst in +/-? If we give Niang more minutes, we definitely might get a new record

I think the Jazz are making it amicable and that a scenario like this one may have been discussed before he even signed the deal. I’m also pretty sure the league pays a substantial portion of a veteran’s minimum deal and I’m not sure you can negotiate money returned.

I hadn't heard that, but I hope you're correct about the league paying a portion of the vet's minimum cause otherwise it just seems like a rash decision. I doubt anyone will claim him off waivers and ease our financial burden. I wonder if he'd still require to be paid the vet minimum once he clears waivers. Not sure how that works.

Those that say we're freeing up money - WRONG!!!! We're eating the guys' full 2.5 mil according to sources unless somebody claims him within 48 hrs which I think is unlikely.
Wrong. If he gets picked up, it doesn't matter when, his new salary will get deducted from ours and we only pay the difference, and since he's on the minimum, that's guaranteed to be nothing. And there's not a big market for minimum-salary guys, so they don't get traded very often on their own.
