Unfortunately due to the long incubation period, time it takes for symptoms to progress to the point of going to the doctor and finally getting tested there's a 10-14 day lag time before the numbers will start to slow down.

That we're so far behind in testing also means that contact tracing and quarantining isn't happening on the scale it needs to to stop this is in its tracks any time soon.

Anyway, my post was meant more to illustrate why JazzyFresh's "we'd have to have 800k cases tomorrow for this to infect tens of millions of people" post was stupid and wrong.

Oh and 800k was a median that had to happen to hit those numbers. Its meant to show what a huge number 75,000,000 is not to make any projection. My bad I figured that was common sense.

Going back and looking at stats country by country, there are a few countries where it has maxed out and practically ended, China being the chief one. For a fairly large number of countries with significant presence of the virus, the daily increase in case numbers is 20%. 15-25%. This daily increase would line up more with the 3d doubling you were talking about, and you are right about the lag time before we will see it drop because of public health measures/ behavior changes/ quarantine and travel reductions. We are not seeing much of that slowdown yet. But we can expect it will come, beginning about now. This flattening of the curve will be the result of less effective transmission from infectives to other people, and further flattening because of sanitary measures people are generally applying now more than previously.

Not really. The travel restrictions were probably the right call, but the idea that he did so among widespread outrage is just not factually true. In all the time between then and early March our government didn't launch widespread testing, didn't have a plan to ramp up production of masks and other PPE, nor address the shortage of ventilators and respirators. Trump did spend a lot of time downplaying the risks of the virus and spinning tales of it miraculously disappearing though. And through all that we lost the most precious commodity we have - time.

We could have been in the same situation as S Korea is right now had we taken the steps to do so, instead we're on the same trajectory as Italy.

Fair enough.

I don't visit Breitbart's site except rarely. I listen to XM125 and hear some of their people almost daily, and then there's Hannity and Levin and David Webb who are not Breitbart assets. But, frankly, I find Hannity more credible than CNN or the NY Times......

Hannity doesn't make stuff up, and he gives you his sources. Levin is pretty awesome, as a Washington based political hack who got his start supporting Reagan and the Young Americans For Freedom in the eartly seventies. A seriously competent lawyer, to boot.

The Breitbart peeps always have actual sound bites to back up their claims about what Biden says. Levin always gets actual CNN/MSNBC/etc sound bites, and so does Hannity.

Italy has surpassed China in deaths. And I did notice that the US and Italy have the 20% new cases per day aka 3d doubling presently, so you have this point.

Sorry, but why is Biden opinion on this issue relevant to the points @Zombie or @Gameface are trying to make? He is just a candidate (and not a very bright one).

At the end of the day, Trump is the acting president. And he spent weeks downplaying the risks and impact of this desease until it was too late.

I was only providing that people were in fact calling Trump racist and a xenophobe as asked. I'm not the type to freak out about words like the majority here. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

I agree btw that Trump was behind the 8 ball but I would also say most countries were. I think he's done a much better job though and even a few Democrats and alt left media sources are saying such.

So the "news" and discussions on politics that I listened to, hosted by Breitbart talk show personnel, involved Biden quotes from the campaign trail, and I think some remarks from Pelosi, Shumer, or other frequent Trump political critics, and my look through mainstream media reports still searchable online did not yield the proof Game wanted to see. I might be a bit late at the game of becoming a stickler for details, but until I do find something, Game owns this point.

Biden's comments could be defended if anyone really cared to, as scientifically factual. Walls don't stop virus spread, and there are plenty of example where travel bans, less vigorously enforced perhaps, have not stopped the spread of viral disease....

But if you can believe China's media and the current news from there, their travel ban/house arrest/quarantine has proved absolutely effective, and anything we can do in a free society to similarly achieve 0 transmission instantaneously, would be praiseworthy, no matter who made that decision.

After all, even a 0.3 ROI is better return than most government expenditures.....

And Biden wouldn't have done it unless he listened to his CDC peeps.

February 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!” (Not an ounce of truth in this statement)
February 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.” (By limiting testing and classifying public CDC information)
February 25: “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.” (Zero truth in this statement, as COVID-19 spreads)
February 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.” (also 2+2=391)
February 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.” (We are going substantially down, as far as the number of Americans whose lives will forever change because of this)
February 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.” (OK)
February 28: "The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. This is their new hoax.” (Yup. nothing to see here. Nothing to worry about. Go about your business. keep spreading COVID-19)

Biden doesn't even know what day it is half of the time and the intellectual elite put Hillary up against Trump so excuse my cultness when I take your intellectual superiority with a grain of salt. Imagine losing to Trump lol.
