Coronavirus

Or for people in the 20-50 age group, since they represent the highest % of Americans who have had to be hospitalized for the virus.

Good bedtime reading:

And how many have died? If basically none of them have died, should they even be in the hospital to begin with? I don't know. I do know that the entire economy cannot shut down for 30, 60, or 90 days. It is not an option. It will hurt far more than a bunch of deaths would.

The best path forward, both economically and from public health perspective is to continue social distancing until we have the testing and contact tracing ability of S Korea.

Otherwise I think we'll see outbreaks spike, which will cause us to take even more drastic measures to get it back under control.

I don't think contact tracing is realistic at this point. There's too much community spread with multiple points of contact.

Yes you can. Easily. Thousands of people get sick and die without COVID-19.

But not at the rate and geographic concentration produced by a pandemic. In the countries/areas hit by them, major pandemics have disrupted investment, consumption and employment. If this keeps growing, the country will be forced into a longer/more painful lockdown anyway.

This country needs to dissolve. There are too many differences, too many ideologies and the system is too ****ing big.

that’s your takeaway? Really? I think it’s revealing that Fox News and it’s conservative party is rotten to the core. It’s an outlier party that clearly values the stock market over the human life.

The country shouldn’t dissolve because of one dying political party desperate to cling to power and it’s ridiculous propaganda apparatus.

It's truly wild, not to mention sickening, to see the same crowd of people who cynically warned of Obamacare "death panels" killing our grandparents now openly make the case for sacrificing their lives to save the stock market.

ive always been ok with death panels. If you’re really old and sick it’s ok if you die. The circle of life if you will.

2010: that Kenyan Muslim is gonna kill grandma!
2020: We need to kill grandma for Wall Street and time protect Donald’s re-election chances!

I haven’t seen this here enough, but we all understand that this kills more than just grandma, right? More than half of those on ventilators in New York City are “young people.”

Alrighty then. Nothing more to discuss here. Wait...

just a question out of curiosity, be honest, how many books do you read per year? Are they mostly fiction or nonfiction. I’d appreciate it if you’d answer this as honestly as possible. I was talking to my wife about this earlier and want to test my thesis.

One one hand, it’s been truly revealing to see the “pro life” party be revealed as the cynical hypocrites we all knew they were. They’re not about protecting life. They’re about anti-choice. Maintaining misogyny and keeping women in their “designated place.”

Probably 15 books a year, all non fiction.

I’ve always been of the opinion that prolonging the lives of sick 80 year olds is one of the biggest wastes of money and resources we have.
