I really like Torrey Craig. Didn’t realize he was gonna be an FA.Couple of assumptions based on our general mode of operation... we won't make big changes, so no Conley trade. Also, we retain JC at a reasonable price $8-10M per year. Using the MLE likely puts us over the luxury tax.
I honestly think next year that Oni and Brantley can be valuable rotation players. Bradley is much better than he was (though the playoffs provide an acid test for him) I can't see us giving up on Tony now when he's actually paying off a little. I think we go the budget bin for any other additions to avoid the luxury tax and keep salaries low. I'm looking at valuable wing defenders in the under $5M range. Utility guys that can play a couple positions.
Shaq Harrison in Chicago is one I'd be very interested in. Can probably get him under $3M per year (maybe even minimum deal). Can play 1-3 and is a good/disruptive defender.
Torrey Craig is another guy though he could go above the $5M budget with a good playoff. Valuable and versatile wing defender does the dirty work.
I get your general drift here, but I do think Brantley has improved as a defender. And I think he’ll likely improve more.Bradley actually reminds me a lot of Kanter. Dude can absolutely get buckets around the rim, and grab some boards. But he is a complete non-factor on defense. And I'm really not sure how much room he has to improve on that end.
Regardless, he has shown enough and is very cheap. We already commit way more to the Center position than most teams. Bradley is about the only kind of backup we can reasonably afford.
The argument for Covington is obviously the defensive upgrade over Bogey. And we have defensive problems; big slip this year.
Conley just has to go. If nothing else, he shouldn't be in the plans beyond next season. The argument for Covington is obviously the defensive upgrade over Bogey. And we have defensive problems; big slip this year.
I don’t want to see Bogey traded, but we need to break into the next tier of teams NEXT YEAR and then hope that Max-Paid Donovan is a more legit lure to free agents.
Adding a guy like Torrey Craig could be a cheaper and easier option to support the defense. But they would need to move Conley to the bench, I think
I like RoCo but he went from under-rated to over-rated imo. I want to see if his shot disappears in the playoffs again.Conley just has to go. If nothing else, he shouldn't be in the plans beyond next season.
Maybe I just see Covington as way too overhyped and can't appreciate him for what he actually is at this point. Bojan brings it in a big way on offense, but there's only one ball and the sharing of it in a general sense has been an issue this year, so I see him as a piece that can be moved for something that might fit better. I don't know if Covington is it, but I see your point.
He has surprised me a handful of times. Perfectly timing a drive so he is in position and blocks the shot and controls it. I also think folks have to understand how much stress our defensive system and personnel put on the center. Favs had bad on/off numbers when backing up Rudy a couple years before he figured things out.I get your general drift here, but I do think Brantley has improved as a defender. And I think he’ll likely improve more.
Jazz cant afford anyone lmao
Wouldn't shock me if they didnt if using it means they enter the LT.They have the MLE and they'll use it.

Then Covid19 happened. They already decided they were prepared to enter the LT when they traded for Conley.
And, also, Conley didn’t elevate us to anywhere near the expected heights. There’s no reason to think that we’re one MLE-sized piece away from contention right now. Then Covid19 happened.
Will be interesting for sure. I have him down as the most promising free agent this summer next to Van Vleet.I guess on Miami, but Pat also know he has good young bigs and it can be tough to move a bad deal. They also have to renounce guys to do it.
Toronto can't sign Wood without renounce all their free agents and Van Vleet is a better player than Wood... imo so are Gasol and Ibaka, but I get the long term value argument in favor of Wood.
I just think its a limited market and teams know they can likely get bigs cheaper than other positions. You might be right... NY might pony up. I get the feeling they go the other route and get more established guys.
Who knows where the dominos will fall... If I had to guess 4/50ish is what I'd guess.
If we can get a solid bench then there’s a chance we contend next year.... I don’t think it’s crazy to think that we could use the MLE well, trade Davis+picks for someone solid, and have one of our young guys/or this years first round pick turn out to be solid as wellAnd, also, Conley didn’t elevate us to anywhere near the expected heights. You’re a fan of this team, so I’m not going to kill your efforts at coming up with best-case scenarios. If we can get a solid bench then there’s a chance we contend next year.... If we move Conley to the bench, re-sign JC, sign a guy like Torrey Craig to fix our woeful perimeter defense, and get some improvement form Gobert and Mitchell........
