What's new

Players only meeting.

I personally think this is all because many of the elite millionaire players are unhappy in the bubble. They aren’t willing to put up with the discomfort they are experiencing personally. I think it’s all a way for them to appear as if they are taking a big moral stance and sacrificing, but it’s really just a selfish act for most of them.
I have a hard time understanding the social justice stance that applies and has so much meaning to these guys in America - but these are the same people that continue to exploit so much about China.
Yeah they are willing to potentially lose millions because they are sick of playing the game they love at a resort with their buddies.... or it could be that they actually care about this ****.

This is some of the dumbest **** ever

They care about this **** as it pertains to very specific people and not others? Call me cynical. I guarantee the majority of them are some of the most self absorbed people on planet earth.

You have to be kidding. The rate blacks are being shot there won't be around to do those things.
This is the dumbest comment I've read. Almost as bad as this...So they should do nothing and just laugh off another black person being shot in the back so you can enjoy basketball.
Do you really think someone needs to be shot to enjoy a game?
People need to stop the hyperboly and be real.
There are so many different factors involved in these issues, there is no easy fix.
The first thing that I would want to address if I had the platform that the nba has would be fatherless kids and inner-city education.

Maybe just maybe they realize basketball is pointless right now. You comment comes across as being immature.
If it's pointless now, why wasn't it pointless last season, or the season before that, or before that. It's not like police brutality started with George Floyd. Do these players know who Rodney King was?

“Things have always been bad, why ever try to address them?”

I’m sure you’re just misguided but your points suck ***.

Yup that's what you are doing.
Like you know better than all the other people posting their thoughts on these incredibly difficult issues.
I’m not though. I am not telling players that they are stupid and naive for giving a **** so I guess you lost the thread before you found it.

Saying black people need to stop being murdered in the streets by immune government agents isn’t complicated, and I applaud when people stand up to real injustice.

There are immense difficulties in the specifics of implementation, certainly. This conversation hasn’t gotten that far. We’re apparently still stuck debating whether there’s a problem or if we should try to do anything about it. I think that is weak as hell.

It's crazy to me that people say some protestors are violent or causing damage so they should be discredited and are hurting their cause yet police who have been doing that forever aren't under fire from the same people.

Protestors have got violent and caused damages. Most of that was started by police forces and was retaliation. Not allowing people to peacefully protest will cause backlash. Being violent to all protestors because a few did something is exactly what they are protesting. A lot of it was also caused by groups out to create chaos, typically far right wing lunatics. There also have been angry people acting out who are possibly hurting the cause. There are also just random people joining in and using it as an excuse.

The protests have very much helped the cause and made a difference. Public opinion has shifted towards them.

As far as the NBA goes I hope the don't quit this season. I want to watch and think they can make a difference in the bubble and with people watching. But they can make a difference by ending the season and I support them if they choose that. Giving up that much money to make a statement is impactful. Also this allows them to go to their communities and try to do what they can.

Maybe they should just end the NBA and players and former players who are far more important than the owners can start their own league.

Also makes me laugh people posting this is dumb and pointless yet are in here discussing the issue.

NUMBERICA...
What's your thoughts about the black player calling the white player a bitch *** white boy?
Where is the outrage? Why isn't it being blasted all over sports center?

It's a meaningless insult that's not nice, but no big deal. Bitch is the worst part of that since it's obviously sexist. There's no such thing as reverse racism.

I've read through all of this and haven't read anything like you just said?
Lots of thoughts expressed about the platform and how it can be used and what not, but not anything along the lines of telling players that they are stupid. Don't make **** up.

I’m sorry what does that have to do with a hundreds year old system that murders people? I fail to see how they compare.

Lol, yeah I'm misguided. Maybe players should address the issues in a constructive way. Quitting now is a pathetic. They have a platform now, and quitting a season impacts that. Do these players think that platform is guaranteed if they aren't playing basketball?

I appreciate the sentiment, but the plan of stopping the season definitely isn't going to help anyone. Literally, nothing will change. I've already commented on things they can do to help the black communities across the country, so I'm not going to rehash that.

If they stop the season, 95% of the players will go home to be with their families, and we won't hear from them again until basketball resumes. A select few will make some efforts to enact social change, which may or may not have any impact.

Then read again. Several posters think the players are shooting themselves in the foot which sounds a lot to me like calling someone stupid.

Bullcrap it's racism and wrong period end of story. Shouldn't even have to be discussed.
