The Julius Randle for Mike Conley article.

So you are saying he can be our harden stopper?

If he reaches his ceiling, may be. Exum stopped Harden for like a game and stopping Harden seems to get easier every playoffs. Jazz has done it without Exum, Dort has done it, Lakers are doing it now.

Stopping Harden was never the issue. Last season when we had Rubio Crowder and Favs, we limited Harden to 27pt a game(who averaged 36ppg in the regular season) on 37% shooting and limited Hou to 43% shooting as a team during last year's first round series. We lost because of our offense woes. (40%fg, 29%3pt)
Now having given up most of our defensive tools in exchange for offense, stopping Harden again isn't a concern. Because folks like Jamal Murray, Dennis Schroeder and Eric Gordon are enough to give us nightmares.

NY get Conley, #23 from Utah and #32 from Charlotte
Charlotte gets Randle and Tony Bradley
Utah gets Ntilikina and #56 from Charlotte

NY gets Conley, a 1st and an early 2nd while shedding cap space for summer 2021.
Charlotte gets two big men for pretty much nothing. Bradley is a UNC guy.
Utah gets $30 million in cap savings and a perimeter defender who is buddies with Don/Rudy

Go get Frank...

these are my favorite... the offseason he's added 15 lbs of muscle or he's in the best shape of his life type ****.

Remember when Zion became Bain and looked super ripped up in that weight room pic? Then in the bubble you saw him and then we were all "wait he's still fat?"

I would be more impressed if he was making jumpers or doing that steph curry ball handling drill ****.

That's completely different. Zion is questioned because he's overweight and how that can impact his health long term and stamina.

Everybody knows Frank is a good defender moving his feet, but his lack of strength has been in question. By bulking up and getting stronger, it will no doubt make him a better defender.

Isn't that we've been talking about on almost every thread? We need more perimeter defending?

He's a fine prospect imo... I just laugh at the thirst trap workout pics... all these dudes look bigger and stronger while lifting or shortly after. These are also staged and shot by pros... nothing about the photos impresses me.

Getting in great shape is fantastic... Frank's biggest questions are skill related.

Haven't read through the entire thread, but any idea if Randle could be sent somewhere else in a three way trade? He's not a wonderful fit but...Mike is a bad one

Conley is not a good fit ... we lost to Denver because of lack of depth. Getting rid of his albatross of a contract enables the Jazz to get that depth and guarantees that they keep Clarkson. If I had to choose between Conley and Clarkson, it's not even close.

Also, Randle is a very good offensive big around the rim. The Jazz don't have that. So we get to shore up two weaknesses while getting rid of a third -- a guy who takes the ball out of the hands of our best player. To me, this is a no brainer. Plus Frank could be a plus, a young player who could be the backup PG. Clarkson is a shooting guard not a PG.

I'm not sure about Taj Gibson. Maybe we could trade him for Favors.

I think Randle would be fine here, but I could also see Charlotte being every interested. They are not a free agent destination and have been reported to have interest in Randle. They have enough cap space and a number of lesser picks they could send to NY.

I want cap space and I want Frank Ntilikina.

Draft # 23 big wing
Re-sign Clarkson
Trade Conley for Ntilikina and Randle.
Trade Bradley, Davis, and 2 2nd rounders for Favors.
Use our Mid on Dunn.
Let go of JWF and Offer Brantley a contract.
Keep Oni, Morgan, and Niang.

Lineup

Guards: Mitchell / Clarkson / Dunn / Ntilikina
Forwards: Bogdonavic/ O’Neal / Ingles / Randle
Centers: Gobert / Favors

Deep Bench: Niang / Brantley / Morgan / Oni / #23

Lots of Perimeter defense and rim protection added while still keeping enough offensive fire power.

I'm sorry for arriving so late at this thread. Randle game reminds me of Karl Malone so I've always been intrigued by him. The way he moves around the basket is very Malone-like, IMO. Unfortunatelly, as part of the "new NBA", he seens to try and develop only his outside game. I even saw a few pick-up games of him on Youtube last offseason and he was ONLY shooting from outside, as if his offseason goal was only learning how to score from outside. By the way, the stats show that he didn't learn. Nevertheless, he COULD score inside when demanded by his coach, which is great, since the team can't really count on Gobert due to his lack of post moves and not-so-good hands. Unlike the inicial poster (Joncolton) said, though, Randle is not "a two-way player" by any stretch of imagination nor a "decent shot blocker" and doesn't have "the ability to get steals". He is a slightly subpar and somewhat passive defender, who very seldom gets either steals or blocks, but has a knack to get defensive rebounds. He has always been like that! Nevertheless, since I think the Jazz need a reliable inside scorer, adding Randle seems to me like a great idea. Plus, getting rid of Conley -- who did not finish the season badly but doesn't add much to the team -- is addition by subtraction. As for the other guys, Ntilikina is only a borderline NBA player and should be waved if possible, while Gibson still seems like a serviceable backup C/PF. As for Baynes, he is not part of the trade, is he? Why even mention him?

Just Curious:
Would New York Accept Mike Conley (and possibly a 1st rounder) for Bobby Portis, trade machine checks out.
NY gets a veteran mentor, expiring money and a possible draft pick. Jazz get an athletic wing that we so desperately need and are left with 17 mil in cap.
If we could then go get Evan Fournier, free agent from the Magic , it would be huge. We'd get bigger, take a massive step forward defensively(one of the best defensive ratings for SGs), and get a solid scorer (18 ppg). Fournier does play for team France, so there is a connection with Rudy Gobert. Could also leave room to pick up Favors and/or a wing if Fournier goes else where.

Lineup:
PG Donovan / Clarkson
SG Fourier / Royce
SF Bogey / Ingles
PF Porter
C Rudy Gobert

Yes, but why would we give up a pick? Also, I believe NY has a team option on Portis. Also, DL, were he to see this, would likely ruminate on this so much, with deep frustration about dealing Conley for so little, that he’s eventually register a burner account here and it will eat into his leisure time until he gets it off his chest.

If we don't need to give up a pick that would be great. I like Conley and I think he will improve next season if we keep him on the Jazz. However I think the value of getting a wing and eliminating his contract from the cap would be worth a pick. Just wasn't sure on how worthwhile it would be for the Knicks.

A) Bobby Portis is not a wing
B) Why would The Jazz be giving up a first in this scenario?
C) The Jazz are over the cap, so no... you don’t just get $17mil in open cap space to use. You would just be giving up Conley for... Bobby Portis, and that’s pretty much it.

Before you even get to questioning if this actually improves the team, I don’t think that a single one of the supposed positives in this actually work in reality.

I mean on our current roster would he not be a player the size of a wing, covering the best opposing wing, playing offensively on the perimeter lol
Didn’t know you couldn’t trade cap that was the idea.

Fournier is a long-time and I think Rudy's best friend. They grew up playing basketball together.
