What's new

2020 Presidential election

How about nominating someone that can beat Trump AND doesn't suck and isn't 100 million years old
Like not Warren, not Bernie, and also not Biden.

We are a pretty big country with lots of people. The Democratic party should be able to find a moderate candidate better than biden

I get what you’re saying and I don’t disagree.

The american public is so stupid that name recognition is important. especially in rust belt states necessary to win the EC. People want a return to some semblance of normalcy, going with an old proven commodity is more safe than a gamble with an unknown.

I would’ve preferred Warren. I agree a lot with her politics and she’s smart as hell. I also like Mayor Pete. if we didn’t have the EC I think they would’ve been better candidates. But we need to win the EC which means taking a more conservative approach (no way a Harvard professor from Mass or a gay man wins any swing state) . His name recognition in those swing states is big imo.

get rid of the EC and I think you’ll start to see better candidates. The most popular candidate will win, not the guy who appeals to Florida and the rust belt. Getting rid of the EC would eliminate so many problems in our system right now.

I also think that there should be a rule that you can't run for president if you are past the age of retirement in the US. Which according to the Google is 66 years and 2 months.
No one older than that can run for president. I would vote for that rule

Fair enough. I like Warren, Bernie, pete, and Andrew (though I felt that Bernie was too old, but just loved his passion, work ethic, integrity, thoughtfulness)

Honestly, who really gives a fuzz right now about Hunter Biden or Trump's taxes? It boggles my mind how the Trump campaign thinks this is somehow a winning strategy - their base isn't big enough. They missed their big opportunity in March when everything was blown to hell.

Covid and our economic situation is all that matters and voters are making it pretty clear they're not happy with it.

I wouldn’t mind some sort of an age limit either. That’s a good idea.

Too bad your vote for president is worthless in Utah and not actually worth something. Just like mine. Right? If you lived in a swing state...

which is the problem here. Warren was a woman and I’m unsure if a woman can win the EC. She also turns off a lot of people in swing states.

Pete is gay. So there goes most/all swing states.

Bernie is old, Jewish, and might’ve been too much of a change/risk for swing state voters.

Yang might’ve been seen as too much of a risk as well. I also could see him encountering heavy racism. Especially now with covid. You know That if Yang was the candidate, Fox News and Trump would report that Yang was born in Wuhan and invented Covid. That would be enough to convince enough voters in swing states to give Donald 4 more years.

“Many people tell me that Yang was born in Wuhan. Now I don’t know what’s true or not but it needs to be investigated. I’m just saying that some people say that maybe Yang invented the China virus the plague it has many names.”

I agree with all of that.
Sadly I think that Biden had/has the better chance to beat Trump that any of those people I liked. Mostly due to Americans fear of change and the scary "S" word.

Just think we should be able to find a better moderate than Biden.

Biden is a white male.

He isn't gay.

He's religious.

He doesn't call himself any kind of socialist.

It's easy to tell nice stories about him riding the Amtrak and tear-jerkers about the family he's lost.

Any angle of attack that Trump can come up with against Biden is also a line of attack that can be used against Trump to greater effect.

Biden isn't scary.

I didn't like the nomination, but I can see why it was the right move.

I hope we do better next time.

SOCIALISM????????? You’re a commie! Hey everyone, @fishonjazz just said he wants to kneel on the american flag because he hates America, he wants to give free handouts to lazy people, and turn us into Venezuela!!! Oh and confiscate your guns!!!

;)

I agree. Sadly, I think there are large enough pockets of people over the fear of that word to actually elect a democratic socialist if we didn’t have to worry about the electoral college. If we just based things on the popular vote, I think there’s probably enough people out there to at least make it competitive. Sadly, because of the electoral college, just whispering that S word is enough to scare swing states into voting against their own interests.

Take Utah for example, there are a lot of people like you and I who can differentiate between having a strong health care system and safety net and going full USSR. But you’d never know that by the way the EC is set up since all 6 utah EC votes go for the winner. Which is always Republican.

If we got rid of the EC, we’d see thousands of Utah voters in support of democratic socialism. Hell, some of the largest political rallies I’ve ever seen in the state have been Bernie Sanders rallies. I was at his in 2016 at the U. The campus was packed as if it was a pac12 championship game. But you’d never know that by how the electoral college is set up.

This is exactly correct.

I didn’t want Biden. I wanted Warren. I thought she was going to have a much better primary than she did. But when I saw the dynamics play out and saw how Trump and our ****** *** media (which hasn’t learned a GD thing since 2016) was going to attack Bernie, it definitely scared me enough to throw my Support towards Biden.
Whatever policy disagreement I have with Biden isn’t worth giving another minute to the existential threat that is Trump.

Just make it 35 to 60. Easy peasy.

While we're at it, the President should also be able to:

- Bench 225 at least 10x
- Run a mile in 6:00 or less
- Have at least a 4.5 in the 40 yard dash
- 30" vert
- Body fat <10%

I'd be willing to listen to anyone if they believe any three cone agility drills or having naturally beautiful hair should also be a prerequisite.

I'm interested in your opinion (and others for that matter). Where do you see AOC in 8 years?

She’s gorgeous, talented, smart, charismatic, empathetic, and a leader. I agree with most of her policies ideas. The sky is the limit for her. Being a minority and a woman is a plus going forward. I think she has a great story and a lot of diverse people (young people especially) identify with her. Her ability to connect on social media is unparalleled. Seriously, I’ve never seen anyone communicate as well through social media as she. If she can avoid major scandal, I’d expect her to be a major player in American politics for a long time.

I think her throwing her support behind Pelosi and now Biden is smart. She seems to be playing the long game well knowing that the Democratic Socialist time is coming. the stigma against socialism is already losing its impact. I don’t think millennials have the same fear against socialism as Boomers. For good reason too, people like AOC have seen two major economic collapses in one decade. We largely recognize the gigantic holes in health care and the social safety net. The pandemic has exposed the unfairness of our tax policy and inequality in our society that should be amended.

My only fear is that Fox News is going to do their best to demonize her for years until people’s perceptions of her override any factual analysis of her, exactly what they did to Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama to a certain extent. And honestly what they’ve done to trump. If it wasn’t for Fox News constantly worshipping trump, his numbers would be down to the mid 30s-20s by now. What Do you think?

her latest tweets are just brilliant and inspiring... AND DEAD ON

My own wife pointed this out to me. Both as pence did it in real time and AOC’s tweet. My wife works in finance and deals with misogynists like Pence everyday. So I think a lot of people, like my wife, Agreed with AOC here.

I also think she is a powerhouse. But she needs to slowly build her political capital within the democratic party (a lot of well-established members already waiting for their turn). And if she will moderate her views a bit in order to do that (affecting her base). Happens a lot to young, ambitious politicians (although she seems very capable of walking that fine line). I'm also wondering about the timing: she relates to young people now but she can't stay too long in the spotlight, otherwise the risk of being burnt by media/other political forces increases. Thanks for your elaborate reply.

You really don't have to look much further tyan the possible second debate moderator being on timeout for lying about his twitter getting hacked. The mind manipulator exposed himself and here Democrats are. They don't even recognize it.

Oh and nobody wants to talk about Biden forgetting Romney's name? How is that possible? Somebody explain to me how someone forgets the guy he ran against name?

Adding to me previous point, I also think healthcare reform will be her battleground and biggest point of emphasis in the next few years (it already is). It's an obvious problem most Americans can relate with (even more so with covid's impact in US)

“By the way, what you all know but most people don’t know, unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things,”

This comment is racism by definition. One race being superior to another.

And you all vote for him.

Trump morally broke you. He dominated you. You are voting for everything you claim to be against. You are flat out hypocrites.

So, this Trump town hall is an absolute wreck. Recording Biden’s and will watch it later.

Dude can’t even denounce Qanon which is a softball.
