Elijah Millsap: Lindsey in exit interview: “if u say one more word, I’ll cut your Black *** and send you back to Louisiana”.

Sorry if this has been addressed, but what was the outcome of this in terms of the roster? Was Millsap retained to begin the next season or not?

Millsap says this was on 4/16/15. He was on a multi-year deal at that point. He ended up being waived the next season on 1/5/16.

It seems to be a pattern with Dennis Lindsey.

Here's an interview where he bigotedly refers to someone as "a black man from Tallulah, Louisiana."

He seems to have something against black people from Louisiana. Odd that he should end up with Karl Malone's team.

Also, in this photo here, you can observe he refuses to even make eye contact with Melvin Hunt. The disrespect is off the charts. I can't believe we didn't notice it sooner. **** this racist piece of ****, and **** his whole family. I hope they all die in a car crash, just like his mom did. It's what they deserve.

Its a crazy world we're living in.

Just today, there was a hearing to confirm a former crack head man, who believes he is a woman, as the director of mental health in the US. This person believes kids as young as three should be able to have sex changes.

We live in a sick society.

Thanks.

I was curious because if he was already getting cut then the comment would have made less sense.

To be clear when I say “it was six years ago”: I’m saying our memories degrade over time.

But the more I think about it, I’m not sure how valid that point is.
Fair, but maybe it's just me but I've been in more than a few arguments where I say I said one thing and the person I'm arguing with says I said something else completely different. So people here and interpret things completely different even when they were both involved in the same conversation. Not saying I believe DL or EM, as I don't know either of them at all.

Why? Even if Lindsey remembers it differently, if he is an anti-racist as others claim, he can acknowledge that he obviously said things very poorly (and if Millsap has this much resentment 6 years later, he said something poorly), that he needs to be better, and that he will work on being better. What does Lindsey lose by saying that?
Here's an example just from today. A student just contacted me about the perceived irritation and frustration at treatment she received both from me and from a visit to our Success Center. I certainly don't remember being impatient with her. I could have defended myself, and she would probably have left the class. Instead, I apologized for not giving her the responses she needed, and we will having (likely regular) virtual office hours so I can her with some of things she's struggling with. Ultimately, it doesn't matter if she is being too sensitive or if the both the Success Center person and I are being jerks; what matters is she gets the helps she needs in a way that she can use it.

Because it gets people's attention, as evidenced by reality.

Reading through this thread, I have to be honest. Even though I'm firmly against firing DL based strictly on an accusation (I've made my thoughts clear in a post from about an hour ago), I find it a bit uncomfortable how quickly people are rushing to throw dirt on Elijah's motives/character.

The dude could very well be telling the truth, and have good intentions.
You know why they are so quick to do so....

I'll give you a few guesses

Have to wait and see how players respond to this
Have not heard anything yet from Donovan and Rudy
That may be deciding factor for DLs future
I think this is where it's at. If DL is a guy who says stuff like that then this is a prime moment for Gobert, Donovan, etc., to call for his termination. If they don't do that, and especially if they stand up for DL on this, then I think Elijah either had a one-off unusual experience regarding DL, or he is remembering this differently than what happened, or he is not providing the needed context for us to understand what happened.

Damn this thread is mess.

I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Almost always does.

I don't know DL well enough to know if he is a racist. I don't know Millsap well enough to know if he is hot-headed enough to embellish.

We may never know the entire truth so bashing either side is pointless currently.

**** you.

You are what is sick about this society.

You are what is wrong with the world we live in.

You.

My main views:
1. What does Elijah have to gain from this? Absolutely nothing.

2. If he wanted to makeup a fake he said/she said story, couldn't he have thought of something much more damaging?

3. We know that DL has a fiery streak. Things can be said in the heat of the moment and exit interviews can get heated as they are very "real" moments.

4. Is what DL said that egregious? No, but if he's denying it then it just makes it look worse. Will we ever truly know if Quin doesn't speak up? No. Hell Quin might legitimately not remember. From the responses in this thread, you can tell white people don't consider that bad to the point that I don't think it would register to many.

At the end of the day you should probably just go ahead and fire DL immediately. He can be replaced and Utah already had shakey race relations. This could do a ton of damage to the org if the story stays in the media.

Best thing would be to own up and apologize. I think most players/people would accept that.
I imagine an exit interview where Elijah took exception to a DL critique. He got angry and said things that pissed DL off, so DL said, "If you say one more word, I'll cut your *** and send you back to Louisiana." "Black" was added in Elijah's mind. So neither is lying, they both speak the truth as they understand it.

But THIS IS my imagination.

I like that story and you definitely handled it correctly.

Now imagine the same thing, but instead of the student contacting you, the first you hear of it is in a surprise meeting with your faculty HR, and instead of a current student it is with a student you hadn't seen in 5 years. That really puts you in a difficult and unfair spot.

I do agree that the student might have some legit points. But they have stacked the deck of discussion to where there might not be able to be a successful resolution.

The way these things are handled is pretty important, and the first option should probably not be Twitter or a Jazz message board.

Oh one is definitely lying and it's Elijah.

I see what you did there

Another interesting angle is Elijah mentions conversing with Quin while it was said. He included that for a reason. Stating Quin was there and tolerated it because he didn’t say Quin stood up for him.

Well, it's already being reported and phrased as a fact... with mentions of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Jacob Blake, NBA players activism... you get the picture.

As for team members reactions, I read Snyder said he doesn't remember the thing and couldn't fathom Lindsey saying anything like that, while Gobert said he will call Elijah to get more details on the issue, as he was close to him back then...

Not a good issue to go thru these times. No matter what, I guess some damage it's already done.
Hope a fair way can be found to take care of every person involved in the best possible way.
