What's new

Favors and Burks are the future of the Utah Jazz

If Burks really can develop into an NBA-quality PG, our backcourt of Burks/Hayward would be a tough matchup for anyone!

Burks may be able to play PG, but he is a SG! but if your saying it would be a tough matchup for the limited minutes he'd play PG, I totally agree. I don't think it is wise to say it would be a good idea for the majority of his minutes to come at PG!

Remember, just because you play the 3, doesnt mean you have to defend the opposing teams SF as well. If we resign Kirilenko we can throw him at the 4 to defend the Lebrons, and the Durants, etc.

To me, one of the most exciting things about Burks is the fact that his only flaw is the lack of a reliable long distance shot. How did Burks 3 point percentage compare with Haywards in his last year at Butler? Because to my knowledge it was in the high twenties; now hes the best shooting Rookie in the NBA from 3 point land. I feel like long-range shooting is one of the most easily correctible flaws as an NBA player, especially if your mid-range game is very solid (which is true for Burks). I seriously think we got an unbelievably awesome pick at #12.

^This!!

I didn't watch Burks at all, but I would assume a high % of his 3pt attempts were off the dribble. I doubt he will be taking nearly as many like that in Utah, so hopefully his % will go up from being put in better catch and shoot situations.

Honestly, I don't think Burks shot is broken. the mechanics look fine to me! :)

We all remember guys like Kirk Snyder, Morris Almond, tell me when BURKS is better than they.
I haven't seen him in Colorado at all, his tools are nice but i think that is a head case.

Dude!! Burks can do things that Almond and Snyder could never do. His abililty to get to the basket and create his own shot will translate becasue of his athletic abilty and craft. He's fantastic with the ball in his hands! seriously, the dude has handles for a SG. Snyder was athletic but didn't have the skill and almond had some skill but didn't have the athletic ability for his scoring to translate!

I think people who want Hayward to play sg are underestimating his ability. Hayward possesses great intangibles, remember he was a rookie, and still very young, he should be able to bulk up to better defend other sf's. I saw the game vs. the Lakers, and I know Kobe is a sg, but let's face it he is a sg in a sf's body, and Hayward did just fine against Kobe. Other than Favors Hayward is every bit as athletic as anyone on this team. Some perceive him to not be very athletic because he's white and looks like he is 16 yrs. old. The only players I see him really struggling against would be James, Anthony, and Durant, ummmm I think they are matchup problems for everyone not just Hayward. In two years I see him as are best player. He's a scorer shooter playmaker, and has great instincts offensively and defensively.

Flame away....

Not sure he'll be better than Favors or even Burks, but i think he may end up as arguably the most important player on the Jazz. :)

Quick question... I know he's not Jerry Sloan, but Corbin seems to run a lot of the same stuff. Do you guys really think that Burks is going to have much chance to go isolation in our offense? Just wondering.

I think any great coach has to build the offensive around the strengths and talent of the team. If Burks can be effective in iso plays than why not run a few iso plays. i know i have said this over and over again but hear me again when i say burks is going to suprise a lot of people!

Great point! I guess I will just have to trust your judgment! Even though just about every single person on JazzFanz has the same youtube videos to assess Burks' abilities that you do, there's just something about your use of hyperbole and overuse of exclamation points that just makes me think "you know what... I think this guy knows a lot about basketball!"

Exactly. Way to early to try and determine who should get how many minutes.

As long as we do not sacrifice any minutes for those new players in favor of Miles, I am good with whatever. Miles should get <10 MPG this season. He has had his shot, and has not responded. Time to let the new guys have their shot.

Thanks! I'm glad you are able to recognize and experts word on things ... lol :)

Your not giving Burks enough credit! the dude is going to be Really really good in 5 years. saying corey magette makes me cringe!!

If Burks ends up as good as Magette that would be a great thing. Borderline all-star. Go-to player who can create his own shot. Remember, he can have the same skills and abilities without the attitude. If he becomes better than Magette then we have a wet-dream in the making.
