Game Thread Nov 27, 2021 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Pelicans

Added to Calendar: 11-27-21

Nice to see Ingles play a good game. I'm hoping to see an effort similar to this against Portland.

The rotation guys played well - too many turnovers though.

True. Our schedule has been softer than charmin.
we should have been number 1 in the league for both offense and defense after blowing out those teams by 30 per game. so I would say we really have been underperforming in those ortg/drtg categories

After playing the Rockets, OKC twice, Pels twice and Kings three times.

Okay, but the Jazz have had a tougher schedule than Golden State, Phoenix and Brooklyn, as well as a bunch of other teams, and that's who we're measuring against.

and what are those teams org/drtg stats, mind if i ask?

and keep in mind we played Bucks/sixers/Hawks, the supposedly "good teams" that were missing half of their starters, so we really should be crushing them by 30 a game too

Things like NetRtg and SRS have always been better indicators than W/L, but the regular season becomes less important every year. I don't feel much differently about this year's team, maybe a little bit better because Gay looks great so far, but they are certainly not as fun to watch with their persistent whining and lack of effort on a night to night basis.

Yeah, I know. But other teams like the Warriors, Suns, Nets, etc. also played the Sixers without Embiid, the Nuggets without Jokic, and the Bucks without Middleton. So it's apples-to-apples.

Top 5 Offenses: Jazz, Warriors, Hawks, Blazers, Sixers
Top 5 Defenses: Warriors, Clippers, Suns, Heat, Bulls, Nets/Jazz

Warriors' schedule has included: Kings, Thunder (twice), Pels, Pistons, Rockets, Sixers (no Embiid), Cavs, Raptors, Lakers. Plus, 9 of their first 12 games were at home with no B2Bs.

Last year, the Jazz had the best record in the league for pretty much the whole season. Then by the playoffs the Jazz had two key injuries, they were out of rhythm, and the playoff seedings were thrown off by the Lakers and teams trying to avoid matching up with the Lakers. So you're right that the reg. season doesn't mean much. Definitely have to take that with a grain of salt.

Also, the Jazz had wins against Memphis and NOLA in the bag before the refs made bone-headed calls that cost the Jazz key points or a key possession. Jazz should really be 15-5, same as last year.

You're talking like we live in nba2k. In real life every game in NBA requires effort, some of those theoretically weaker young teams always play with a lot of energy to start the season. Sometimes shorthanded teams play without any pressure and make surprises against contenders. Jazz always start slow so let's be realistic with expectations.

Yeah with that lineup we should have been runway first in both categories easy.

i agree. that's why i mentioned in another Pels thread earlier that we had a similar slow start to the season in 2019 and we ended up being just fine. but the offensive/defensive ratings don't really mean much until the end of the season when every team has had a chance to play one another.

I never panic about a season until like January at the earliest. This team feels a bit off from last year, and I wish they would ignore the 3 at times when they are ice cold there, but still, they are really good this year.

Anyone else notice that highlights are no longer highlights, they are just every single scoring play cut together with the occasional block added in. Boring.

Yes. Compiled by a computer and they also miss a lot of plays. For instance, last night’s only showed like one or two of Gay’s threes, and it didn’t show the Conley sequence where he made the shot then stole the inbound and hit a three.

I like that. If I miss a game then I can watch those videos and feel like I saw a lot of the game. Would be really boring if they showed fouls, missed shots, inbounds passes, turnovers etc.

But you don't get any of the defensive plays other than big blocks sometimes.

How would those be highlights? The point is it misses stuff like Conley's layup, steal, then 3, and many blocks and steals and other exciting plays. While including every layup regardless of circumstances. These are fine if you missed the game and want a condensed version, but they are supremely boring if you had hoped to wack it to the exciting plays of the game.

These should be called game summaries, not highlights. Highlights should be exactly that, highlights.
