Trade deadline discussion

I was surprised by his measurements when I watch video he looks like he’s 6’2”.

NAW is 6'4.25" w/o shoes and has a 6'9.5" wingspan. With shoes, he's close to 6'6". He's 205 lbs. He's a touch bigger than Trent Forrest and is the same size as Dante Exum.

You must be mistaking him for Kira Lewis Jr. or something.

Now this is someone we should look at. I don't think we have a roster spot if Forrest gets a real deal and we sign House...but I'd bet on Bembry over Juancho for sure.

From Hollinger's article on buyout guys... this is totally going to happen... isn't it.

17. Juancho Hernangomez, PF, Utah – Juancho Hernangomez has only played 147 minutes this season for Boston and San Antonio, and the Jazz acquired him mainly in the spirit of luxury-tax avoidance. His non-guaranteed $7.5 million deal for next season wouldn’t seem to be a big part of Utah’s plans either, and a buyout could potentially save the tax-paying Jazz some more money if they fill his roster spot with spaced-apart 10-days. In this case, I would suspect a Hernangomez buyout would land him with a team in Spain rather than another NBA club.
Nah (or should I say NAW?), he’s making real NBA money right now. I don’t think he’d be incentivized to give up any significant amount of that contract that would also be sizable to us.

Underwhelmed. Underwhelmed as if someone handed me a piece of soggy garlic bread. Underwhelmed as if my first sexual experience turned out to be someone my mom paid to make me feel like a man. Underwhelmed as if I took a bite into a grilled cheese sandwich with a great crust but the cheese wasn't really melted inside.

Don’t underestimate what may be seen as a “sizable” amount of cash to Ryan.

But aren’t all salaries paid out by that point? I get there is still a chance to do trades on the 21-22 schedule before July 1 but guess I’m a little confused as to how that would impact this. I thought the whole point of having a minimum salary is to penalize teams for doing exactly what the Thunder are doing.
In determining a team’s salaries for luxury tax purposes, the end-of-year amount of the roster’s full year salaries are used (i.e. Ingles’ $13 million is what would be counted for the Blazers, not the prorated amount.

In other words, a team’s luxury tax bill (or whether they are considered in the luxury tax or not) is assessed June 30th.

I think.

So dumping salary to a team under the cap could save the dumping team a ton of money still. Theoretically.

What’s the break even point on a buyout? Where’s the point where how much we save in salary + tax (+ adding another minimum salary) is the equivalent of keeping Gomez Addams? That number may be too large to make sense for Gomez.

I haven’t run that number, though.

If he leaves $500k on the table and goes to Spain and makes that or maybe a hair more (no idea how their season runs schedule wise) that saves us like $2M? If we leave the roster spot open and sign Forrest and House then that is like 1-2 less second rounders we need to sell off to keep the franchise in Utah. I mean is Juan worth losing the franchise? That's the real question.

If he leaves $500k on the table, how much are we spending (salary + tax) to replace with another guy or doing repetitive 10-days.

None. We can sign Forrest and House and leave one spot open... of course they won't say its to save money though... they want that roster spot flexibility baby!

If you assume Forrest and House are getting spots then the replacement cost could be zero.

Tony Jones was on with Checketts this afternoon. Said there were other deals out there the Jazz could've made after the deal for NAW yesterday but it would've required them giving up a first round pick and they were very hesitant to do that. He's been told by the Jazz that NAW will be on the floor and in the rotation right away. As expected, they plan to sign House for the rest of the season. Didn't seem very optimistic about Joe returning to the Jazz next season, said it's possible but not necessarily likely.

Jazz have nothing to lose to give Juancho some minutes in some games
He's 6' 9" with some athletic skill. Jazz do need someone like that
Maybe he will surprise some
He looks similar to Watanabe who some wanted

Thanks.... I'm still skeptical on NAW playing... I was told JB would be in the rotation too.

But what if Ryan can give him a buyout and save some money?

I also think keeping the firsts hints that a rebuild will happen sometime in the 2025-26 range. Its definitely in their thinking.

None of the FO assholes have any authority over (or probably even any clue of) what Quin will do with the rotation.
