Walker Kessler highlights

Kessler will be a relatively scheme-limited player. Teams in the draft that want to use more versatile, switch-heavy defensive strategies shouldn’t consider drafting him. He doesn’t have that capability, and even if he develops it, it’s certainly not going to be how he’s best used. On top of that, while he is a genuinely elite shot blocker, I don’t know that he’s an exceptional enough as an overall defender for teams to overhaul their defensive schemes to get him on the court. With all that being said, he needs to go to a team that is willing to play a consistent drop coverage scheme that allows him to showcase his length and rim protection in the paint. It would also help him to go to a place that has a strong lead guard in place. He’s more of a regular-season player than a playoff guy, but there is real value in being able to soak up those minutes and provide value in those games. If you believe in him getting to the point where he can be a real, consistent 3-point shooter, maybe there is some upside for him to be able to punish opponents enough from the outside to play him and thus get use out of his defensive rim protection in the playoffs. But for now, he’s more of a late-first, early-second round guy who likely plays in the NBA for a long while without consistently starting.

You were clearly watching different highlights than me. He looks like he can finish around the rim and is a great shotblocker. He is by no means an explosive leader but you don't have to be when you are that big.

So yeah he can’t jump

Ironic that along with the role players and the mystery chest, we also get the young player with perhaps the best opportunity to be the next Rudy Gobert.

Rudy is athletic. Long wingspan and incredible quick. This guy is stiff and slow. Think Ostertag with a teeny bit of shooting.

NBADraft.net compared him to a mix of Cole Aldrich and Myles Turner.
What a dumb comparison! Myles Turner is athletic, long, and explosive. Cole Aldrich is unathletic, slow, thick, and had good footskills and a post game. They might as well say he is a proper mix of Shaq and Bol Bol. Sheesh.

He looked more Jacob Poetl to me. Slowish. Decent base. Slow shot. Long. Not the most athletic. But productive.

Frankly Dok's highlight reel is WAY more impressive.

Myles Turner's game as a floor stretching/rim protecting big that's not a great rebounder but in Cole Aldrich's body.

I'm not sure if he'll ever be a starter but if he can follow a similar career path to someone like Zubac with the Clippers I'd be happy.

I just finished watching some of his highlights and he is a better prospect than I thought. He isn't very explosive but he is big and moves his feet really well.

There is a lot to like after watching this kid. His 3pt shot is sweet. I think he can be an effective backup center in this league. I am liking this trade even more.

Poetl is a really good comp for him. If he can turn into a similar caliber player then I would be extremely happy.

I just looked up his pre draft measurements and what jumped out to me was that he has tiny hands for a player his size. His hand length was only 8.5" and 8.5". To put that in perspective Udoka was 9.25" and 10". Trent Forrests hands were 9" and 9.75".

What about his hand pads?

lmao @ 0:55

If people get mad at Rudy for not dunking when it seems like he should, people going to be furious at a guy who cant even dunk when traffic is clear like that.

Agree with dbag. The kid looks like a complete stiff. I hope I’m wrong. Very uncoordinated. Awful leverage—dude needs to lower his hips. Not very athletic. Whatevs. He was a semi-throw in. Maybe a year in the g league will do him wonders.

Comps wise he reminds me of a worse version of some big Illinois had like 10-20 years ago. Maybe from that Deron team, I forget.
