RealGM reports Jazz interested in Trading for John Collins

He fouled out and his replacement Griffin hit the game winner in OT.

Their team is a mess. Two ball dominant guards who are shooting 30% from three, one big who is only a lob threat (Capella) and Collins who is best served as a lob threat but is parked in a corner where like you say he is shooting terribly. No idea why they chose Huerter to be the guy to sacrifice for salary cap reasons.

Given his contract and the fact they are locked into the roster they have, Collins value is incredibly low. A good buy low candidate although I'm not sure of the long term fit.
Well, I mean, the Hawks are 10-6 and in 3rd place in East. Not exactly a Lakers type of mess. Collins may be buy low for a reason. He feels like a petulant child to me.

Collins would be the olynyk replacement. Fits our timeline better. Not sure who I would want to trade since I’m sure they want players to help them win and not picks.

Maybe a third team would help.

Yeah I was on the fance with this trade but now that Mike went down and we saw life without him its obvious Collins wouldnt work.

We can barely get the ball to Lauri as is, let alone feed 2 bigs. Unless we trade for another playmaking PG first, this trade doesnt make sense.

KO rebounding been trash in all but one game and his defense hasnt been great either. That being said, I still feel like Collins would bring less to the table without playmaking support. Kelly hits his shots on a better clip and creates some for others..

Eh this trade would be on the basis of adding a future piece while paying 50c on the dollar. The entire piece doesn't have to fit as long as going forward you can add the right pieces around the likes of Lauri and Collins.

Personally I would rather try and sign either Kuzma or Jerami Grant as free agents in the off season and trade for Collins should we strike out on either of those guys.

Also can we stop overrating Olynyk. Since his hot start he has reverted back to a 37% three point shooter and getting 2.8 assist per game. He is a big capable of making passes more so than a playmaking big. I like the guy and he would have been the ideal back up on previous Jazz teams but should be viewed as one year rental/trade bait meaning if the right deal come along he would be our most expendable player.

I'm not too high on KO atm, but I also know 100% we cannot feed both Lauri and Collins right now. Hell we cannot feed Lauri alone.

As I said, we need to get the playmaking guard future prospects sorted first. Cap flexibility might be big for that move, and Collins would 100% hurt us there.

Interesting discussion here with both parties making valid points IMO. I’m probably higher on KO than either of you guys and am not interested in a trade for Collins that includes Olynyk. I think his playmaking, shooting and sensibilities are key to our 5 out schemes, and in that respect he’s not easily replaced.

We proved last night that we can finish without Conley on the floor. An immediate point guard fill-in or replacement may not be quite as urgent as presumed due to our non ball dominant approach. Personally, I would only consider a Collins trade that contained either Conley or Sexton. (We’d have to wait till the 15th to trade Sexton.)

Short of that possible trade scenario, the trade that really blows my hair back is either one of those pieces and change for Jonathan Isaac and RJ Hampton. Conley and Juzang does the trick or Sexton and Gay or maybe Agbaji. Isaac is more team oriented than Collins and I believe better on the defensive end and less demanding in terms of minutes or role. Hampton is an Uber athletic point guard with career averages in 3pt% and FT% this season on a roster with a surfeit of capable point guards.

Ya we can barely get the ball to lauri. Thats why he is having career highs in everything and will likely be an all star.

We are feeding lauri just fine. He has been awesome and is having his best year of his career, the jazz are first in the west, and by reading lauris tweet he is extremely happy and loving how much he is being fed.

Its ALL good.

He ranks 92nd in usage rate for NBA, between Collin Sexton and Keon Johnson. 39th for forwards.

In touches he is 114th overall and 49th among forwards. Thays even more of a disgrace because of the minutes he plays.

Even in the category on centers, he is 19th in touches, between offensive juggernauts Valanciunas and Jarrett Allen.

So no, we are not feeding him as his production deserves. Imagine how much hidden potential there is.

He isn't getting nearly enough shots. He needs to be getting close to 20 shots a game.
He NEEDS 20 shots per game in order for what exactly to occur? I like being in first place and having Lauri be an all star.
He is getting more shots than ever before. He is happy. I'm happy.
Maybe more shots brings worse efficiency and more losses.
I'm good with what we are doing. Lauri is good with it. Coach is. We are in first place with the toughest schedule in the league. I'm not going to complain.

That is your opinion. What we are doing is working for the team and for Lauri. Maybe more touches leads to worse efficiency. All I know i ls the way he is being used is making him an all star and making our team first in the West with the toughest schedule in the league.
I'm cool with that.

We literally just traded a guy who took exactly 20 shots per game and we hated that fact (Mitchell took 20 shots per game last year in 34 minutes. Lauri is getting 15 shots in 32 minutes)
This team is about everyone eating. And it works. And it's fun. I like watching this team.

Clarkson takes 15.9 shots per game. Lauri takes 15.2 shots per game.
Beasley takes 11.1. No one else in the team attempts double digit shots per game.
I like the balance.

Agreed that is the way Hardy wants them to play.

I might prefer Clarkson take 1-2 fewer shots a night but can't argue with the results so far.
