The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Please tell me why many teams are guarding Zion on the perimeter like he's Steph Curry? He's taken two 3pt shots in his last five games and made none. He's the ultimate non-shooting ballhandler.

It makes no sense. I'm not saying it's easy to stop Zion in any case, but please for the love of God... just sag off him when he catches it on the arc, sit on his left hand and see what happens. We all know he will go right for a couple of dribbles and then try a hard pivot back to his strong side so he can float up a lefty layup.

You're telling me that's too hard for an NBA team defense to anticipate?

Incidentally, this is exactly how LeBron destroyed Zion recently:

I wanna see you go out there and give Zion that space, and see what you do after he uses it to gather speed and comes charging towards you.

I would hope he uses that space to shoot the 3

Because if you let Zion dribble uncontested into the paint it's an and 1 waiting to happen.
Getting in his grill at the perimeter isn't stopping that. He has an amazing first step for his size and is wide as hell, so once he gets you on his hip, it's over.

Zion just hung 36 points on the Wolves, seemingly with nothing but lefty layups, because they kept guarding him tightly on the perimeter. He went by the first line of defense like it wasn't there.

The Lakers approach in the video I linked above is the only correct one. Sag WAY off, always go under, have another big up top show just enough so Zion can't get that head of steam. Collapse the interior when he does drive and force him to make tough kick out passes.

Yeah dude, Zion is a ****ing beast.

Don't get me wrong, I like watching his bizarre offense because it's so out of sync with today's robotic, analytics-controlled NBA (and it's just entertaining as hell when someone is that good at making something out of nothing). It's my guilty pleasure.

That doesn't change the fact that Zion is a guy with one move.

The longest single season losing streak is 26 games.

They got Philly (x2), Bucks, Hawks, Jazz, Brooklyn (2x) as their next 7 games.

Got to think Lauri is back for the Jazz game.
This season’s low point will be when we become the Pistons slump buster.

This post confuses me

The draft being underwhelming lessens the urgency for the FO to want to tank hard, but they also have little motivation to win, because a higher pick is still better than a lower one in a weak draft. If it's between finishing with the 9th vs a top 4 pick, they'd rather just get the better pick.

These bottom feeding teams get no reward for winning. This is true for most of the NBA btw, not just teams in at the bottom. Result of a championship or bust league.
I really have no idea how people can look at any sports league and say it's "championship or bust". No offense but it's such a weird way of thinking.

Winning is its own reward, one game at a time.

I'm with ya, but that is the dominant way in which teams operate. They do not care about winning 30 vs 25.
