FO intentions for the offseason

I think they want to get better. There has been pretty much zero smoke around them doing otherwise and doing tank mode deals. I think they want a player of Herro/Garland/Simons caliber....but it's unclear if they think Sexton is that good. If I had to bet, I don't think they do. If I had to speculate on the FO's opinion of Collin I would say they don't care for him too much.

Leaving out personal opinions of players and strictly thinking about what FO wants, I think it is more likely they go for a Grant/Kuzma/Bridges/Ingram. But not because of Sexton, because of Keyonte. Sexton may or may not be traded if we acquire an "almost guy" who is a non-small. They probably see Sexton as a 6th man, and maybe he's willing to do that, but they probably also see Jordan Clarkson as their 6th man so I'd say it's more likely we get someone like Kuzma and trade Sexton.

Collin was good all year though. Our most consistent player (did have a slow start... but the whole team did). I personally think its more of Sexton is close to the same level as Herro/Simons/Garland so why spend to acquire what those guys bring while also marginalizing Collin potentially.

Agreed. I'm not giving up assets to "upgrade" from Sexton to a Herro/Simons/Garland type who all make at least double what Sexton is making on his current contract. I was looking up our current guys over at the CraftedNBA site and Sexton's offensive number are eye popping and compare to HOF types. Of course the defense is another story but none of these scoring guards are any good defensively.

Now if they want to bring in a bigger guard I can see the logic in that but there's no way I'm trading Sexton + picks/prospects for Herro, Simons, or Garland types. To me Garland is another SG masquerading as a PG who can't even finish at the rim. I'd just rather keep Keyonte in an offball role/secondary playmaker type and eventually bring in a bigger PG who can play with him and Sexton, assuming they keep one or both of them long term where one comes off the bench.

I think that's fair....but in the spirit of this thread, are we benching any of those guys last season? I don't think so. Feels like Sexton is a great opportunity that some other team is going to capitalize on.

Sexton is better than Garland. If the Lakers are going to give up a treasure on picks, I would hope that Ainge introduces them to Rich Paul client Colin Sexton. That would be 2 unprotected picks and a removal of the 2027 please. Oh Lakers you can have some 2nd rounder for your troubles.

Very true. Yet I'm almost to the point where I might attach something too go along with him just to move on. It would be good for us and for him to part ways at this point

However, after they fail to capture any such big game, they'll likely pick up a couple buy-low free agents and recognize that tanking next season is the franchise's best recourse. Guys like Paul George, Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, etc. probably aren't coming here.

However, after they fail to capture any such big game, they'll likely pick up a couple buy-low free agents and otherwise recognize that tanking next season is the franchise's best recourse. A guy I met years ago came up with one of the best negotiation strategies ever... for certain scenarios. He and his brother decided that they could no longer be in a partnership in the family business. The brother who was carrying the most weight knew the other brother wanted to sell and do nothing... but he wanted a lot. So he told him "tell you what... you write down a number and i will tell you if I am a buyer or seller at the price". The negotiation went really quick after that.

That said I think while DA is big game hunting if the price is steep... he may end up deciding he is the seller and not the buyer. DA the value hunter.
