Hendricks ~ Rodman?

I don't see it as a great comparison because almost all of Jaden's value is as perimeter on ball defender, and I don't see Hendricks as that type of defender at all. It doesn't mean Hendricks is/will be a bad defender, just different. He's probably not going to be picking up PG's full court and navigating screens like Jaden. Again, I don't think Hendricks is slow or anything....just a way different kind of athlete and way different kind of defender.

Where I do see the comparison is that they probably will never be guys that dribble/make decisions on offense. Both very basic and rudimentary, although I'd say you'd hope TH's shooting becomes a lot better. IDK....always felt odd to compare players on the smallest parts of their game.

I think Covington is a more reasonable comparison who was a much different type of defender than Jaden. Though I think the "RoCo worst case scenario" praise was a little ridiculous for TH before the draft.
All pretty fair. Taylor did well some nights as a one-on-one guy but yes his size and lateral movement will prevent him from being as sticky as Jaden is on the perimeter and he likely isn't as versatile on the perimeter. He's just somewhere on that player type continuum. Jaden is also an ideal prototypical SF and Taylor is more of a tweener and based on his program and weight gain... he likely trend to a 4 that can pretend or get spot minutes at the 5.

Taylor has a pretty clear path to being a high level role player. That isn't ideal if you wanted a star out of that pick but he could impact the game significantly while letting and aiding stars with their starness.

At very least lets have him get out there and show the flashes and then we can overhype him like other fanbases do to their young guys and declare him untouchable in star player trades.

It's odd to me why people want to use Jaden McDaniels as a comparison so much lol. Like I can understand why people compared everyone to Draymond, Mitchell, Shai or whoever because hope is what keeps this league going....but Jaden isn't even the most amazing player.

For me, TH is probably like Pat Williams and a high outcome would be like Covington. Of course any player can go beyond their supposed "ceiling", but passable offensive player + first team all defense is a very high outcome for Taylor. If he gets to his high end outcomes, it won't look much like Jaden and probably like RoCo where he's more of an off ball dynamo..I just don't think they play the same defensive roles/are similar athletes. It's wayyy more likely Hendricks goes the 4/5 direction than he goes more towards being a heavy perimeter defender.

3 years from now, I think he will be like Pat where we know he is worth a lot of money but less certain if he's even good or not. Or he could be Dennis Rodman, who knows.

McDaniels is the one who got away... well one of the ones that got away. He's also just the prototypical role player 3 and D guy that you can compare guys too without it being wild. He is new Mikal Bridges lol.

Pat would work kinda I just think Pat's mystery is more about time lost to injury. I think we kinda know how good he is. From a body standpoint its a great comp. I don't know if Pat wants to be a 3 and D guy. But yeah I would put him on the continuum of players Taylor could be. I hope Taylor's motor runs hotter and he shoots more threes.

We will see... I think there is a low likelihood we look at Taylor as a bust. We will almost certainly wish we had taken at least one guy that was taken after him instead of him... but that isn't the measure of a successful pick.

Jaden doesn’t even have the 3 part down yet lol. I feel like the one who really got away was Herb….Im not sure how many people even know Herb is in the league but Jaden is talked about like crazy haha.

I’d agree that TH has low bust potential. I don’t want to say we know who he is….but there’s not a lot of imagination needed to see where he can go. His biggest case as a prospect was how easy it was to project him as a role player.

A very rich man's Wang Zhizhi with a defensive presence. Which is, I might add, a fairly nice player.

These generations of basketball players are completely unable to produce a Dennis Rodman.
Too much kombucha, cool aid.

Infection is always talking about fairly nice rich men's Wangs.

I am higher on Tay Henny than most. The combination of 6'9", incredible length, and the high vertical meaning he has tools that most don't. I do think he is a lower IQ player at this stage of his career so if the development is "taylored" to improving the thinking muscle i could see him go places.

I also liked hearing Zanik speak about how Tay grew so much while defending the other teams best players last year. Those things springboard in to big gains when the card are played right.

Lol at the first sentence.

I'm very high on Tay Henny as well (I'm an admitted homer though)
I think the main driver of his success will be his motor and his confidence. For both of those things it's nice that he has Sexton around him.

I think Hendrix will be a player that fills up the box score eventually. Won't have a lot of any stat but will have a little of every stat and will be efficient. Won't hurt the team in any way but will help the team in almost every way.

Just curious. Would you prefer a top level athlete with low basketball feel/iq, or a below average (for the NBA) athlete with top level basketball feel/iq?

That is almost the argument for traore and Harper in the next draft. Although I wouldn't say traore is low IQ but not super high either.

That is a great question. I think I would go with the top level athlete but that is a tough one.
