Jackpotting Around - It's Just One Game... But...

Brice as a top 6 shooter in the NBA is insane and sounds like a crazy homer. Go tell that to any non Jazz fan and they are going to either laugh at you or say, "Brice Who?"

It's not a knock on Brice either, there are just so many great shooters in the NBA right now. And, yes, best shooter is subjective, but I would think you have to consider degree of difficulty and number of years hitting certain benchmarks.

The best thing about Brice so far this preseason is his ability to score in more ways than just 3pt shooting. I've been super encouraged by him getting to the line and scoring at the rim and a little mid range too. He's looking like a scoring machine.

Idk....in a Bill Simmons way, top 6 sounds about right. Luke Kennard? Top 6 Shooter. Duncan Robinson? Top 6 shooter. Why top 6? Because I didn't think about it much and off the top of my head there's probably about 5 guys that are definitely better. It's kinda like how there's 10 guys playing "DPOY level defense" and 20+ guys who deserve to be all stars in each conference. Top 6 sounds right because there are about 18 of them in podcast land where everything is hyperbole.

I don't even think it's that ridiculous from a highly analytical perspective btw. Very high volume, very high accuracy. And while his degree of difficulty isn't the highest, it's also not the lowest. You'd be pretty much excluding all of the catch and shoot guys if Brice's shots are not considered "tough" enough. If he were to repeat his shooting performance I'd think he'd have an argument.

I guess I need to listen to Simmons more because I'm not familiar with the reference. If the argument is that Brice will be a top 20 shooter by the end of the year that puts him in to the conversation for higher, then that's not as crazy

Not sure if you actually listened but that’s exactly what I was going for lol. If you say top 5, 10 or whatever it sounds like just a guess. When you say top 6 it’s like you have a list in your office you update daily and know the other 5 lol.

I did....Like I don't think it's totally ridiculous to call Duncan Robinson a top 6 shooter. If was being highly analytical about it, he probably would not be in my top 6 shooters. But I can see someone saying that, and while it is glaze, I get the spirit of the statement. If Brice can repeat or expand upon his shooting performance last year I think he's that caliber of shooter.

I'd also agree with @SoberasHotRod saying that no average fan would mention Brice. But how many fans know that Brice shot 42% on 9.4 attempts/36.

I'm going to regret piling on like this, but I had some time to look up the stats, and I think you are underscoring his degree of difficulty. My guess is he had some of the easiest shots for a volume 3pt shooter due to nobody caring about the Jazz last year.

Here are the numbers:

- 25th in 3PA/100 possessions
- 144th in 3FGMUAST
- 64th in FGA/Off Screens
- 99th in 3PA off pull ups
- He only shot 0.5 3PA/Game when closely guarded (and only shot 30.3% when closely guarded)

I think he first has to get his level of difficulty up (not his fault people have to start respecting him and guarding him closer), and then we can start talking about him with the elite shooters in the NBA. Maybe that happens this year.
