What's new

No Extension for Walker Kessler?

I think its more #1 but less like they are for sure going to trade him and more like... they just aren't sure about him.

I could buy #2 if there were FAs that made sense. Right now its like Trae Young and Austin Reaves at the top... not exactly super team type stuff.

My guess with how this plays out is Kessler is moved to the Lakers for a first and maybe a swap. OR we ended up painting ourselves into a corner and pay him 32M+ per year when we could have gotten him around 25-26Mish. Not the end of the world but still an unforced error.
Echoes my feelings.

With #2, the one thing that gives me pause is the math. With the second apron out in the wild, there's a unique window of opportunity while our (hopefully) future stars are on rookie deals. Both Ainges have shown themselves to be hyper aware of this and you see that San Antonio is attempting to navigate the same waters right now with Wemby on the cheap.

I do think it's wishful thinking though and Walker's days with the Jazz are numbered.

Signing Ayton may have made a Lakers-Kessler even more realistic lol.
And yet, the Lakers cut off negotiations with the Jazz and signed Ayton instead. Do we think the Lakers have learned anything? When they have cap space they dump the thought of Kessler and think about older stars that might be available. Kessler is like eating vegetables.

I'm absolutely shocked it isn't working.

Lakers are a **** show and Luka may have wished he stayed in shape to stay with a Dallas team built to his strengths if this continues.
I think Jeanie Buss and the Buss family are very happy they traded for Luka and added more value to the sale so probably no regrets at that level

So this headed towards a Gordon Hayward level disaster after one game. Pay your young players… sometimes they get better.

Except he's restricted so not quite Gordon level.

Hayward only had the option to leave because we cheaped out him and that allows him to get a PO. And perhaps just as important, we disrespected him and he held that against us later. It mirrors the Hayward situation very closely. We can match anything, just like we did with Hayward. Doesn’t mean it won’t bite us in the ***.

Kessler is the opposite of showtime though.

I mean, Gordon's option wasnt to only leave. He left to play for his old lover Coach on a Championship team. I'm not saying it isn't a bad situation, I'm saying it isnt the same as Gordon's.

If Walker really believed in himself and knew he could put up that kind of performance he did last night throughout the season, there's no way he was going south of 30 million per year.

I'm gonna guess, if Walker continues to play very well (obviously not as good as last night, but just overall very good) I think he gets in the 33-ish million range (I believe 38 per year would be his max)

Duren is kind of a more interesting RFA case to me.

I think the Jazz will match whatever Walker gets. He's just clearly very good.

Duren is kind of iffy to me. The Pistons are often better with Stewart playing the 5. He's the kind of player I feel like his own team might wince if he gets a 30 per year offer from the Lakers.

Just one game (and vs the freaking Nets) but Kalkbrenner looked good for the Hornets. Another player the Jazz want to perform very well so the Hornets dont go big money Big hunting.

If Walker has made a leap, there’s no mental gymnastics that will make me think we did the right thing. Really the only way we did the right thing is if he has a worse season than last year, and even then we didn’t really do the right thing. The right thing would have been to trade him if we saw it coming.

Still not sure why Jazz seem to want to get rid of Kessler
He fits the timeline
Get younger, get bigger, get better
Lauri maybe is the one to trade now that all the young guys are looking very good

Please, if the Jazz wanted to "get rid" of him, he would be traded. Just because there have been rumors of Jazz exploring trade options doesnt mean they want to trade him.
