Which franchise makes more money for the league, Lakers or Jazz? Which franchise do fans want to see on tv to drive the billions of tv money that pays the players hundreds of millions, Jazz or Spurs, or even Dallas? The answer is pretty clear, no one tunes in the see the jazz and the jazz are in the bottom 25% if earnings per team, we've posted this info before. The league needs the teams that bring in the money to be good enough to still be a draw. That is not the jazz. No benefit to the league for the jazz to get a #1 pick.
 
After the 2025 draft lottery for the Flagg sweepstake, in a podcast interview Gilbert Arenas already admitted that the Jazz (AJ Dybansta BYU) are getting the number 1 pick for sure in the 2026 draft lottery. Let's see if that turns out true, or not. It'll be interesting.

What's even interesting, is the Jazz helped in that trade with the Luka trade. lol

Sign me up. They would likely only need the #3 pick which seems realistic.

I'm pretty certain last year's lottery summed everything up very well. 14th place Dallas goes up to 1 after coincidentally trading away their cash cow/saving grace. Never has that happened, but coincidentally it happens then and there.

This is actually a negligibly small coincidence, in the grand scheme of things. Much less probable things happen all the time. At a minimum, it’s far from a strong basis for calling people naive.
 
The whole lottery rigging concept is fun and all, but its not real.

Enst & Young is a 50 Billion dollar law firm, which would either look incompetent or fraudlent if the lottery turned out to be rigged, two things they cant afford to look. There is 0% chance that Silver can outsmart them or pay them enough to take such a reputation risk. NBA would need a lot of help to outsmart the auditors, and that would mean including lots of other people in the process and we would have seen someone blow the whistle at some point over the past 40ish years of lottery existing.

Thats balderdash. My son and I both said that Dallas would win the lottery after half of the Dallas fans abandoned ship and burned jerseys. I called that one 4 months prior to the lottery. Felt as scripted as when New Orleans won the lottery post the league turmoil.

Do I think every pick is rigged? Nah. Why bother when talent can pop all across the lottery and beyond. Do I think the top pick is tampered with on occasion to change the fate of franchises after franchise changing moments force massive exodus' of fans? Yeah, I do. The "lottery gods" seem to be playing soap opera scriptors far too often for anyone's liking.

Lebron going to Cleveland (hometown hero stuff)
Rose going to Chicago (hometown hero)
New Orleans post league ownership to add value so they could sell the franchise?
Wemby going to the Spurs as the next generational big man to replace the Duncan / Robinson big man dominance of yesteryear.
Dallas post Luka trade where fans burn jerseys.

There are plenty more. Is it every year? Nope. But the #1 pick is one of the easiest ways to revitalize a disillusioned franchise. Dallas fans are back in droves to watch Cooper. It stunk before, during, and after.

See the Clippers handling of Kawhi.

Also, Ernst & Young do not have a crystal clear record. They currently face several huge lawsuits for failure to detect fraud including a 1.4 billion claim along with another major case where they failed to identify widespread fraud. Yall have too much faith in the man. Especially when big money is on the line.

 
If the Jazz got AJ being a BYU guy that would be amazing. We have never had the #1 pick and it would jive with prior tampering seasons. Would I be shocked if this year fell to us? Not really given the Dyabantsa - BYU connection and the Jazz being a franchise in a slump.

I like Saint Cys position here. If the league wants OKC to dominate for another decade then give them the pick. Feels like an anti-competitive move that doesnt help the league.

The Spurs part is something that makes absolutely no sense in these conspiracy things.

The NBA wanting to set up the 3rd biggest franchize in a state where 80% of the population is white/hispanic is hilarious. And also San Antonio is a bottom 10 market by all metrics, whether its merch sales, viewers, franchize worth, metropolitan area size or whatever.

SA wasnt relevant before Duncan, and wasnt relevant before Wemby, yet the NBA is somehow hell bent on raising them to relevance by giving them generational prospects.

Dumb luck makes 1000% more sense.

Yeah if they rig all the drafts, then why give Minny two #1 picks in just few years?

If you rig just selected ones like the Wemby draft, then why the hell would they be so dumb to send him to SA instead of Rockets or Mavs who were BOTH in that lottery.

Ewing to New York does look rigged but they were using envelope back then. It was reported that ny envelope picked by stern was creased.

Today's draft has a timekeeper who raises his hand every 10 seconds for the balls to be drawn. He had his back turned all the time. How to make sure Dallas ball goes out first?

Did a little more reading. It seems like Ernst and young is responsible for sealing the envelopes before broadcast. Could it be?
