Cavs in contract talks with Fesenko

I'm not saying Al shouldn't get starter minutes, just that I'd rather see Fes getting minutes than Elson. Given that, I think it's worth thinking about what C/PF combos work best in which situations throughout the game.
The best player combinations that work in which situations?

Now that's a concept that would be good for Sloan to maybe, possibly think of doing.

(After all, it kinda sounds like Coaching 101.)

Maximizing time for AK/Al and Millsap/Fes makes some sense to me, and (esp. if Fes gives more consistent performances knowing that he'll play the first 5-6 minutes of the games) perhaps the best way to do this is have M/F start. Who knows though -- Jerry will have to make decisions on chemistry.
I wouldn't be surprised if Al/Fes is a good combination, especially against big lineups. Al-Fes-AK-Bell-Deron is a possible starting lineup against the Lakers (assuming Fesenko comes back).

AK/Fes might be a lower-likelhood PF/C combination. I just want Sloan to try things and find what works on a game-to-game basis, not just robotically put in Okur and Millsap like he used to.

Al will start. Sloan is his own coach. He plays who he thinks should play... Right on, right on. But... He's also been around the block a few times. Barring injury, there is 0 chance Al doesn't start the first game of the season.

With all the stupid money that was handed out this offseason, don't you think if Fes was any good he would have been signed already?

Yeah, just like NFL draft picks would be signed before going into camp if they were any good.

The holdout is more about negotiation and dollars, and Fesenko probably isn't pushing the process. Fes is no All-Star and probably not a starter, but he's a notch or two above D-League scrubs or random FAs, and he can be a serviceable backup.

Yeah, that's the same thing. <<rolleyes>>
It... it is pretty similar. If the Jazz weren't interested in Fesenko, they wouldn't have extended him the QO and wouldn't be going through this crap right now.

And I know some level of your Fes-dogging is out of spite. IGS kind of breeds it but Fes played pretty well last year when he got burn and he's a great physical specimen. Worth the hassle considering the likely price-tag. Even though he's probably the biggest dope in the league.

I don't see it as similar at all. 1st round picks in the NFL hold out to get the most money they can in that first contract, and they have leverage. For a restricted free agent in the NBA, if they are worth anything, they receive either an offer sheet from another team or a new contract from their team. Fesenko has received neither. I understand that his camp feels they are worth more than the QO, but so far the market hasn't shown that. I would love it if he accepted the QO, showed up in shape, worked his *** off in practice, and played with confidence during the game. I enjoy the goofiness, but it's not doing him any favors when his play is not at an acceptable level.

Well, I think the Jazz had offered something more than just the QO. IINM, the Jazz can't rescind the QO unless both KOC and Fes' agent - whoever that is;-) - mutually agree to tear it up, making him an UFA. So all the talk about the Jazz "taking an offer off the table" must refer to something other than the QO.

If I were Fes, I'd just play for the QO, then become an UFA next season. A decent year would likely mean $4-$5M next season, minimum. There's always a market for centers. But every team right now knows the Jazz would match a reasonable offer for him.
