What's new

Game Of Thrones

I found it odd that they didn't have Catelyn observe out loud that the song was "The Rains of Castamere." Sure, Cersei talked about the significance of the song in a previous episode, but most viewers (myself included) aren't going to recognize the song just by how it sounds. It would have been as simple as Cat mumbling the title quietly to herself, or asking Roose Bolton what he thought about it. If I hadn't read the books I'm pretty sure I would have missed the significance.

It was also too bad they couldn't have done the thing with the big tent outside being lit on fire and dropped on the soldiers. Probably it would have eaten through too much of their budget.

But hey, pretty good for the most part. Now we're past the biggest spoiler of the series.

I thought they should have had Catelyn stressing the importance of eating Frey's offerings so they'd be protected guests.

Looking forward to next week and the anticipated cliffhanger.

It's been long enough since I read the books that I'm not even sure what the cliffhanger(s) will be. I'm sure they'll show Jon getting back to Castle Black, and then the Watch preparing for a Wildling attack. They may even end the episode just as the attack has begun. But I'm not quite sure what they'll do with the other threads to end the season.

Well, I never read the books, so the episode was probably the biggest shock I've ever had watching a TV show.

Spoiler:

Maybe I'm jumping too far ahead but I'm thinking they hit the cliffhanger with Cercei pointing at Tyrion and saying "He killed my son!"

I'm probably wrong.

I actually had a hard time sleeping the night I read this part of the book. Having read it already, watching last night's episode didn't hit me as hard, I'm sure.

Neither could I. I'm going to be exhausted all day. :(

Yeah, I don't think they're going there quite yet. Could be, though.

When I saw that last night's episode was going to be what it was I thought they'd have Joffrey's wedding on the last episode, but I read the description and I don't think that's going to happen.

Like...ever

BTW, I can't post a link to it because there's profanity, but there's a pretty funny YouTube video (about six minutes long) of compiled reactions to the wedding scene. Googling "game of thrones reactions" should bring it up in multiple places.

I'm bored and it is summer so I watched Game of Thrones. I watched it after my friends said he likes GoT more than Star Wars and LotR and he is pretty big fans of both. I like more fantasy and adventure personally so I lean towards Tolkien but it is pretty good and Daenerys and Jon Snow carry the show for me.

I am just dreading that people keep saying that the next two books (I realize the next season is still book 3) are mediocre to some even saying outright dreadful.

I wouldn't say they're mediocre or dreadful. There are still quite a few of fantastically high peaks, mixed in with some more dreadfully low valleys. Unfortunately, there are many more miles than should be between them. I would say that Mr Martin believes, at least to a degree, that a book can be judged by how long it is. The story is not better or worse, you just have to go further to get to the point.

The next books aren't terrible, they just don't live up to the first three. However, I have some hope that the show will actually improve the later books, relatively speaking, by cutting out some of the fat.

Although I suppose the judgment of the showrunners is somewhat suspect after they gave over all that valuable time to scenes of Theon being tortured...

My dad had a week off from work and he was bored. He likes the show Vikings, Merlin, and Spartacus which are currently on or just recently ended. I thought because of this he would probably like Game of Thrones he likes swords and sorcery type of shows. I showed my dad a website where you can watch Game of Thrones. I showed him a little bit how to use it and set up the first episode. He watched it all the way through which I was surprised and then went to bed. The next day I woke up really late (after noon) and he usually wakes up early. I went downstairs to load up the second episode to see if I could convince him to watch it. He was already on episode 7.

He finished the whole series so far (all three seasons) in less than three days.
