What's new

July 11th, Summer League Game 4: Jazz vs. Pacers 11 A.M. ET

I wonder who started this Wiggins/Parker ******** that everyone is now copying. Parker is not even in the same universe as Wiggins. Looking at mock drafts, Parker isn't even the 2nd projected pick in most of them. I've even seen him as low as 6th.

You guys are WAY overreacting about summer league. Just relax enjoy your summer and have some patience with the team especially our rookies. Did you really think Burke, Neto and Gobert were just going to walk into the NBA and just dominate? It is going to take a few years for these guys. It is important for fans to be patient, this is what most informed Jazz fans want.

The coaches are not panicking and I hope they keep having patience with the kids. There is no way I want to watch so crappy vet come in and slow down the progress of Burke or Neto. Fans and the organization need to fully invest in the rebuild if the goal is to have a shot at winning a championship. Which is what I want. I have plenty of patience because I think this is the way to build a contending team.

I didn't expect burke to come onto the nba and dominate but I did expect him to come into summer league against a bunch of d league scrubs and play decent.

I guess you expected burke to suck on summer league..... I certainly didn't

I do agree with your second paragraph however

Before summer league?

Trey Burke = CP3

After?

Trey Burke = Jacque Vaughn and Neto = Ricky Rubio

Some folks are seriously handicapped when it comes to judging summer league. If summer league meant anything then Favors and Kanter would be scrubs in Europe while Mo Almond, Kirk Synder, Quincy Lewis would be NBA all-stars.

In his defense, it's not like he has Hayward or Malone or Hornacek to dish it out to out there. You'd have to think he'll be much more deferrential on a real team. Plus he's the top 10 pick who is expected to perform and put up the #s.

The PG should make the team better, but the team shouldn't make the point guard bad. Big difference there.

Before summer league I thought burke was the second best point guard in a weak draft.
I thought he might be a decent starter someday but never an all star.
I hoped he might be as good as mike conley someday but figured he would likely be about as good as jameer nelson or george hill.... cp3? Ya right, I never thought he would be that good.

After summer league, I still feel the exact same way about him and still think we should draft the harrison twin for our point guard of the future if we can.

So nothing about his summer league performance has changed the way I feel about burke.

I think a lot of people apparently think way too high of burk..... i mean comparing him to cp3? Give me a break.
Cp3 is the best point guard in the league for roughly a decade now.... if burke was on cp3's level he would have been a unanimous #1 pick

What do you mean? Obviously summer league doesn't determine who's gonna be a bust/star or any of that crap. But I've watched more than enough summer leauge games, that I can honestly say that if you're analyzing the players in detail, rather than simply wondering who's not living up to expectations, you can see the guys who have skillsets, intelligence and intangibles that might be able to translate into the leauge given the opportunity. You can also spot people who's approach to the game, needs to change before getting big minutes.

I remember watching Jack Sikma get schooled in summer league and he turned out to be a good NBA player that won at least one championship.

Well, if we don't get Wiggins/Parker in the draft, maybe we'll need to draft Andrew Harrison. On the bright side, it looks like our other #1 pick is legit. Gobert is going to slide into the 3rd big man spot just fine. There will be growing pains, but I'm excited to see him get minutes as the backup 5.

Gobert has been an amazing surprise. I'm not even sure what his ceiling is and he looks like he can put on some weight unlike Evans.

Speaking of Burke, his performance ought to really change those ROY odds in Vegas. Olynyk has to be the favorite right now.

There is a reason the odds arent changing...namely that bookmakers are not a bunch of overreacting PMSing pre-teens

I dont think many rational people called him CP3, I think you are right on with your Mike C comparison.

A better FT shooting version of Tyson Chandler. That is his ceiling IMO.

Which might actually end up being the best player out of this crappy draft.

I think you are right.... I think most people believe he will be a solid starter and maybe borderline all star.... that wouldn't be bad at all.
Better than what we got from our point guard play last year

On the plus side, Gobert and Neto have been huge upside surprises to me. I figured a late draft pick huge man = BWS, Big White Stiff, but Gobert has game. Very quick and agile for his size. A keeper. And Neto looks even more surprising for a second rounder. He can play too. It almost looks like the Jazz could consider this a great draft even if Burke flops. Not saying burke will flop, just that the other two look like they could be big successes.

Agreed

Jerel McNeal lacks basic game management.

Rudy Gobert is a monster, 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks today with a nasty tip-in.

Trey Burke played decent, I'm glad that he is only struggling with his shot because that will come.

Jeremy Evans played pretty good too.

Sounds like that is because he got hurt and put on a lot of weight that he couldn't shed his senior year. He'll be the clear-cut #2 if he declares.
