Circumcision ?

We are having another child. We will know the gender next week but we are fairly certain(cycles and what not) that it is a boy. I really feel that circumcision equates to genital mutilation and won't be doing it. When I was talking to my family about it(we're all cut)most of them were horrified that we plan on not doing it.

Is there any scientifically verifiable medical reason to do it, and if so then why don't we see serious complications with uncircumcised wee wees in Europe?

Circumcised dicks look better.

The genital mutilation seems like an overly tragic way to put it. I'd take that as seriously as a Sikh man telling me not to cut my hair because it's "hair mutilation".

Congratulations. I wish your kid a fair fortune. What I know is that it makes the person avoid the genital diseases since the skin that covers and protects the head of the penis loses function and keeps collecting the germs (Like virginal membrane of females, yes). But parents hate giving painful experience to their boys, so they do it as soon as he's born so that he won't remember the pain. And I think this doesn't have a side effect to the health of the boy.

My disgust for the procedure comes from my personal experience going through puberty. There was definitely not enough skin for my growing member which made getting an erection very painful. I don't know if any one else had this experience but I (maybe sharing too much here)have stretch marks between the head and where the incision was made.

Why didn't you use chapstick for that dude? Two birds, one cup.

American Health-care, everyone.

There is no medical reason for it, so it IS genital mutilation. Those that say it isn't are lying to themselves. The same people, Im sure, think that what extremist Muslim folk do with the ****oris' of young girls IS genital mutilation.

That being said, I am circumcised, and if by chance, I have male offspring, I will have them circumcised as well.

What? I am confused. You find it to be ethically wrong and unnecessary but you would do it anyway. Why?

There is no medical reason to do it - prevention of urinary tract infections was claimed as one but numbers where so low that it makes no significant difference. And it is not only Europe. 70% of men in the world are uncut. Of 30% world's men who are circumcised 25% are Muslim, rest is Jews, Americans, S.Koreans ( where Americans introduced it and made it somewhat popular) and odd person from other countries. Circumcision rate even in USA is rapidly declining FYI.
I understand why it happened thousands of years ago where people lived in hot climate conditions with no proper access to water and abilities to take care of your foreskin. Somehow it made its way into religion - can somebody of truly religious folks here explain to me why would God create a man as image of himself yet men find it wrong and cut part of that image off?
So at the end of the day the only non religious reason left -" it looks better". ( people used that excuse to cut off ears and tails of the dogs for years until we finally stopped that in EU and made it illegal). Eventually it will happen to circumcision as well - some European countries are already very close to banning it. Cosmetic circumcision for newborn males is currently banned in all Australian public hospitals ( still can be done in private hospitals). In September 2013, the Children's ombudsmen in all the Nordic countries issued a common statement where they called for a ban on circumcision on minors, stating that such circumsions violate the right of children after the Convention on the Rights of the Child to co-determination and protection from harmful traditions.
I think the only reason where circumcision can be justified is if dude has premature ejaculation issues. Since circumcision removes thousands of nerve endings and makes penis less sensitive to sexual stimulation it can help such a poor person to last longer.

It's called Sunnah in Islam which also means doing things the Prophet did. Not something God wanted as far as I know. But it's definitely about tradition too. Turks do it coz the religion says so. And the religion is not sole God's words. Also religious tradition that transforms in time or maybe it does.

The foreskin provides a functional service during sex. It makes insertion easier and less painful for both partners. The foreskin creates a glide-path for the head of the penis. It also covers the glans during removal, reducing the amount of natural lubrication removed, again, making sex more comfortable and enjoyable for both partners.

Having a circumcision also increases unintentional stimulation of a flaccid penis which results in desensitization. Foreskin also partial covers the glans during extraction during sex which helps avoid overstimulation during sex, which once again improves the sexual experience.

I'm a function over form guy, but if people want to reduce their child's ability to enjoy sex and satisfy their partner so that the flaccid penis looks better (not much of a difference once erect) I guess it's legal for now.

I smh at viny.

This.

Vinny just went down a notch in my book. Thought his intellectual honesty was a little stronger, tbh.

If I had a daughter I'd give her breast augmentation at age 8, because it looks better...

I think it is a personal decision for you. There is evidence for both cases being good and bad. You can get a bad circumcision, but hygiene is easier with one. There are also millions upon millions of men circumcised with exactly zero complications. Anecdotally, my favorite kind of evidence, I have a cousin who is un-cut and he had lots of problems with various types of infections throughout his teenage years. No idea about now, but he had hygiene issues then that caused true medical issues that simply would not have happened if he had been circumcised.

I think I would lean toward not getting my kids circumcised if I had the choice over again, but in the grand scheme of things imo it is really pretty minor.

Without a circumcision, your kid will be known in gym class as the Anteater going forward. Might as well get him clipped. He wouldn't have thst embarrassing nickname and he learns a valuable lesson regarding giving when he gives the excess foreskin to some gay guys for chewing gum. Win-Win-Win!

how do you know demographics of his gym class? If it is latino or asian dominated he may get bad nickname for being cut.

Years ago I knew a guy who wasn't nipped as a baby. Ad an adult he had to have it done for whatever reason. He said he wished it would have been done as a baby. Apparently it was fairly painful. He also said the pain would wake him up every time he got an erection during his sleep (it's normal to have several a night).
