What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

I guess I'll bring this up again: any chance of Thibodeau being fired if Chicago loses in the first round?

Derrick Rose is not playing, not gonna happen. Thibodeau is one of the best coaches in the league, management knows this. Plus if they fire Thibs then they can't recruit Melo. Melo has inquired about playing for Thibs, not playing with Derrick Rose.
Even if Thibs has made a couple of mistakes against this Wizards team this doesn't mean it can't happen to other coaches as well(See San Antonio struggling right now, Rivers Clippers showing different faces every night)

NY has James Dolan.

Received yet another indication that Jim Boylen remains the lead candidate in the Utah Jazz's coaching search.

I read Mike Sorensen's column where Quinn Snyder was a potential head coach. This was a guy that was let go at Missouri because one of the players tended to choke female students. Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Just too much smoke with Boylen's name. He's been the one constant since this search has begun. Either Lindsey is playing with the media or the Jazz really are about to go hire Jim F'n Boylen.

Lord help us.

If they go ahead with Boylen, it will be absolutely toxic. This shouldn't be lost on the Millers as I could see some season ticket holders calling up and cancelling with a quickness.

Never mind the fact that Jimmy is terrible with getting through to young talent.

It's almost a lose-lose. Boylen is going to start with a goodwill tank of zero with how awful things went for him in his final two seasons at the U. Fairly or not, that is just reality. That's his albatross now and something that won't be easily dispatched of without some heavy winning.

That's not likely to happen in a season or two. So, already, fans are going to be against him as coach. If he doesn't win, that only validates their fears. Again, it might not be fair, but it happens a lot in sports.

Very well put and my thoughts exactly. As in Boylen couldn't just be a "pretty good" coach here, DL would have to have some sort of assurance by the devil himself that Jimmy B is going to be otherworldly. That's the only way he washes away fans feelings of him in this market. Good luck with that.

Basically if Boylen wins, no on cares

If Boylen loses, people are just like "I told you so".

Win/Win for the asshats. You either get a winning team or a feeling of being right.

Not so sure I buy that, though. There is winning in the NBA - and there is winning in the NBA. Some coaches are afforded a benefit of the doubt that others simply don't get. Look at Frank Vogel at Indiana. He's done nothing but win at Indiana, taking the Pacers to the Conference Finals last year and the #1 seed in the East this year. Yet, if they lose to the Hawks, there's speculation he's gone.

If Boylen comes in and only marginally wins, he's not going to be given that benefit of the doubt by the fans as someone with a better resume and clean slate might. Now, does that pressure from the fans impact his ability to be a long-term coach? Eh, who knows. But I'd wager Ty would be in much better standing, and potentially in a position to keep his job, had the fans not been entirely against him by the end of the 2014 season. In a game where momentum is key, a coach getting off on the wrong foot (as was the case with Ty, who, not by his own doing, inherited a toxic situation and could never really manage it) is potentially doomed to failure.

Boylen isn't going to join the franchise as a fan favorite winning the praise of the Salt Lake media. He'll join the franchise as a coach most in the media derides, most the fans hate and for a franchise in transition, that is not a recipe for success. Does it mean he's automatically set up to fail? No - he might blow us all away and win big. If that's the case, Lindsey will look like an f'n genius. But if he slips up even marginally, fans will be out for blood. It's not fair, obviously, and I do believe, if Boylen is the guy, he deserves his shot, but that isn't going to happen - fans and media will pounce.

A coach that is otherworldly good doesn't do what he did to the Utes. That's the fact of the matter.

The end reaction we should have for people insisting the Boylen thing is to disbelieve everything they have to say forevermore. Jazz can certainly get a better coach than Boylen who probably doesn't get a sniff anywhere else. Also after the Ty debacle, they need a homerun here, and Boylen certainly ain't that. Other than this Jody person and possibly Boylen's mother, nobody really thinks Boylen is coming here, except Spence Checketts who is a proven idiot. The propagation of Boylen to Utah rumors among the national writers just shows how little they actually follow the Jazz.

Listen to this guy over people who have connections to the Jazz.

No one is saying Boylen is a 100% hire, just that he is the name that is most often brought up in their circles.

Their circles > your opinion as a person out the organization

Let's see..

- We could have had Budenholzer who was also Popovich's right hand man for 6 seasons and spent 18 seasons with the Spurs....

- We could have retained Hornacek who is very savvy and has a great mind and temperament for the game... and had been with the Jazz Org. for a long long time..

Both are loyal guys who have seen success first hand. Instead we're getting this Boylens guy who by all accounts is an angry, lazy man and had a history of jumping from one burning ship to the next?

You can do better than this Lindsey.
