What's new

Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

It looks like we wouldn't be able to sign a different player for less in this market right now...

If we pay Hayward $16, max Kanter (probably won't happen) and give Burks $10M a year, we will be right around $63M including Exum and Hood. The cap is supposed to raise significantly after the new tv deal is finalized.

I was saying we have the capability to max Kanter if we want to. Depending on the cap increase, we may have the capability to nearly max Burks too. (Not that we want 3 max contracts)

That freaks the **** out of me. No team would want that to happen. Even though we have the space it's terrible.

So the Jazz have 72 hours to respond after receiving the offer. Hayward is supposed to sign it tonight at midnight.

I heard a story a few years ago about a team who attempted to delay the response on a RFA by avoiding the message. I believe it was the Knicks or Rockets...please help me out.

The boss shut down the office, sent everyone home, unplugged the fax machine and then hopped on a plane to another state. It took them several days to hunt him down and ambush him, like being served a supeona.

I was reminded of this when reading tweets about Parsons.

Rob Mahoney @RobMahoney about 30 minutes ago
Now imagining Daryl Morey in full HOME ALONE mode, setting up all kinds of traps and pranks to help him elude Dallas couriers.

Too bad the Jazz have that open scrimmage tomorrow night. Can the jazz have an open scrimmage without any members of ownership or managment in attendance?

Where could they hide to avoid the courier?

Why delay it? Just go about your business and match at the last reasonable moment so that Charlotte has to chase after Richard Jefferson once all the good free agents are already gone.

Jazz will match, and just burned themselves. From the SLTrib: "After extension talks broke down last fall, agent Mark Bartelstein said Hayward had not been seeking a max deal from the Jazz."

Jazz wanted $12M, Hayward wanted $13M. Now he is getting the max. All those upset Jazzfanz need to stop blaming Hayward and start calling out the Jazz for shooting themselves in the foot. A lot of people keep saying they are Jazz fans, so they care about the Jazz. Well, Hayward is the one person who needs to care about himself and we can't fault him for earning as much as he can in his career. Jazz took a risk and lost. Vent your anger there.

Judging by other signings, I don't think you are going to find anyone of his caliber that are any cheaper.

In reality, people shouldn't be mad at Hayward. He's doing what any young player should, and would do. He's takin as much money as he can get. That's ok.

If you're gonna be mad, be mad at Lindsey, because we're paying a heck of a lot more than we would have at the beginning of the season.

DL is the one who messed up. He should've known what the market would be like Haywards agent did.

Easy math as Locke pointed out.

So now Hayward has an opt-out for year 4 as well as a 15% trade penalty.

2 elements avoided if signed in October.

The year 3 thing is big for me.

We likely will not make the playoffs by then so Hayward will leave. Ironically enough, I bet he will take a 4/40 deal if he is not an all star to play for a winner.

we'll see.

in addition, I think the FO has treated Hayward like crap through all this. They need to fix that as well.

Great managements

Favors - we love you
Favors - how about we trade you for #1 , oops, forget that
Hayward - no deal, see what the market pays
Hayward - got MAX, more flexible deal and trade penalty..
Favors - Hayward got what ? Dammit, why didn't my agent know the math

DL not too sharp in my book

I still believe in DL, but I agree that they missed the boat by letting him get to RFA. Even though there was a good chance the whole team was going to struggle last year, it made a lot more sense to lock him up, keep him happy and show him that they believed in him. They lost the right to dictate the terms of the deal by haggling over money that they couldn't control if they let it get this far.

Hope they learn their lesson with both Burks and Kanter. Both of those guys should get extended this offseason before they have a chance to break out.

Yep
Max them too before they negotiate a trade kicker

If players are going to get their feelings hurt because their name is mentioned in trades then do we really want that type of player. Same with FAs this is a business and if a player can get more than the Jazz offer that is great but the Jazz as an organization have a right to negotiate a deal with their best interests. I don't begrudge Hayward taking a Max deal. I wouldn't turn it down but he can't say he wanted to stay here because if he did he would have made it happen. I wish him the best if the Jazz don't match and I hope they don't but if he does I don't have to be happy about him returning. I hope he proves me wrong and is worth the contract but in order to do that he has to become a 20 pt scorer and a team leader.

Fans have a right to their opinion too. I am not mad at either DL or Hayward. They are both looking out for their own interests. I think that both parties drew a line in the sand and then they decided to let the market determine Hayward's price (not a good idea). Maybe both guys are winners, Hayward gets more than he wanted and DL doesn't over pay for a guy who can be replaced. In the end fans will pick their sides and we will probably see what we want to see especially since we are not privy to the negotiations.

Also, the bottom line is ticket prices have to be going up if the salary cap is going up substantially.

I agree, then DL should not publicly state he wanted to keep core together with Favors conference. Just keep mouth shut.

Also did not like how he said"1st thing favors asked was can the core stay together?", it was not money.
A Slam at Hayward publicly...dick move.

At end of year publivally stating Hayward needs to have more fun...dick move.

I believe in the praise publicly , correct privately style. His Hayward "fun" critique may be accurate, give it to him privately like a professional.

Just do no like his style.

I hope the Jazz Do not match.

Reason being , Hayward gone in 3 years, why give him the development minutes for a nonPlayoff team ?

Only read the 1st few pages. But needed to say
.
Holy ****.
.
And please don't match this Lindsey. He's not worth it.

I have never heard: "No one thought *previous role player who has never shown anything close to being a max player* was a max player, but he is really rewarding the GM's faith in him."

I have often heard: "What the **** was this GM thinking giving *previous role player who has never shown anything close to being a max player* a max contract?"

Not exactly true... The new tv deal will be giving the league a lot more revenue which is driving the cap increases... Or projected increases.

On the other hand Hay fits into Charlotte's system quite well. Brings in some good passing, spacing, scoring which they lack. Can be a good team to watch.

It's pretty much a lose lose for the Jazz. Sign him back and he probably doesn't live up to his amount, let him go and Charlotte has a lot of success and the Jazz are criticized for letting another good player away.

You bet, let's match.

And when Burks's agent tells the Jazz next week that he wants a 4-year, $50 million extension then DL will agree because he doesn't want to make another Hayward mistake.

And when Kanter's agent tells the Jazz next week that he wants a 4-year, $55 million extension then DL will agree because he knows big men always get paid more and he doesn't want to make another Hayward mistake.
