The Serial Podcast

Jay knew where the car was without being told and gave the whole story. Adnan doesn't remember how his day went even though he talked with cops which is fishy. His counter to Jay saying Adnan did it? Nothing. Jay knows who did it and it is most likely Adnan. I agree with you.

Btw I found Jay's and Stephanies facebook. I heard Mr. S also has facebook but I couldn't find it.

I don't think you can put too much weight into this. If we assume for the time being that he's innocent and just went about that day like any other day then:

- During that day, the Police was questioning him about the disappearance, and NOT accusing him as the murderer, therefore there is no need for him to retrace his step to figure out exactly what he did that day.

- Also remember that according to Jay, Adnan was smoking most of that day hence the hazy memory.

- Police finally questioned/charged him 6 weeks later, making it even harder to recall how that day went for him.

---------------------------------------------------------

Personally I think Jay really played Adnan here. Think about it, the only thing separating Adnan and Jay is the fact that Adnan has a motive (albeit a shaky one), if we can figure out Jay's motive - he can be just as guilty as Adnan.

Well call me crazy but I think Jay was the one who did it alone. It was Stephanie's birthday that day and Adnan who was Prom King and Steph who was Prom Queen were just too close. Jay was soooo into Steph. That day Adnan had gotten the gift for Steph but Jay hadn't. Moreover I think I heard somewhere that Hae & Adnan both knew that Jay hadn't been faithful with Steph - Adnan could have been threatening Jay about this leading to Jay snapping that day.

I think all that amounts to some sort of motive for Jay which should have been investigated more.

Think about this:

- Jay has the motive

- Jay has Adnan's phone and car that day

- Jay has 6 whole weeks to figure out his story and make sure it makes sense before the police questioned him.

- Adnan who was in the dark about the whole thing and still had no idea what was going on that day Hae went missing, snow storm hits the following 2-3 days after that meaning his memory was gonna be fuzzy.

- And about the Nisha call you say? Well she mentioned that she talked to Jay when he was working at the video store - which he wasn't at the time Hae went missing. So that call that Nisha remembered I think was referring to a different date during the 6 weeks period.

This is great, I really enjoy debating these things. My thoughts.

First of all Stephanie sided with Jay instead of Adnan. I think this is huge as if these really was something between Adnan and Jay and Jay was just jelly I don't think Stephanie would have supported him so closely and not Adnan.

Why doesn't Adnan remember anything from that day? He was questioned by the police, he should have remember some more details. Also he doesn't accuse Jay of being the killer. I know he doesn't want to accuse someone without knowing 100% but if I were Adnan and innocent and Jay accused me of murdering someone so adamantly I would have been way more defensive and angry towards Jay.

(Not in Podcast yet) Yusuf, Adnan's brother, admitted that Adnan used to steal money from the Masjid/Mosque. That ****ed up.

Jay would have to be the most sociopathic intelligent criminal mastermind of all time to murder Hae and accuse Adnan of it. All this without any slip ups? There should be more incriminating evidence out there.

This is all that comes to my head so far.

Did Stephanie finally found out that Jay was cheating on him? I don't think so?

I went into this in post #21. Basically the original questioning was to do with Hae's disappearance and not accusing him of murder so it's a different type of mindset required there. Makes him less likely to retrace his step that day. Plus he was smoking weed, etc.

IF he was the killer - why during that 6 weeks period didn't he come up with a FAKE story???? A logical explanation is that he's innocent and truly cannot remember the exact details of what happened 6 weeks earlier.

Also he doesn't accuse Jay of being the killer. I know he doesn't want to accuse someone without knowing 100% but if I were Adnan and innocent and Jay accused me of murdering someone so adamantly I would have been way more defensive and angry towards Jay.

Yeah I don't have a good answer for that neither. Could be that that's the type of person he is.

OK, but Jay made plenty of slip-ups in terms of inconsistencies, i.e., where Adnan showed him the body, etc, etc, etc. Jay's job was made MUCH MUCH easier when the police basically decided that he was on their side (when he showed them where Hae's car was).

Just listened to an interesting podcast by slate.com discussing this case after Episode 8 (basically discussing Jay as a potential suspect). In this podcast they had a special guest Jami Floyd who used to be a public defender, advised the White House, worked for Court TV, etc. She shed some interesting light on what she thought about the case.

Main thing I got from her was that the case against Adnan is pretty thin, and the verification bias to do with Jay, i.e., the problem with trusting a 'snitch', Jay was facing a life sentence as well but the police trying to put forward a compelling case therefore they didn't treat him as a typical suspect.

Should we just make it so from this point onwards we can discuss things without having to put *** spoilers *** on our post?

Pretty sure most of us here would have caught up on the podcast???

No.

Don't be a dick.

That said, I have no idea.

I'm leaning Jay. He knows everything. He has made statements showing that he knew everything. The timeline doesn't add up. There was no pay phone. Yet Jay knows everything physically provable about what happened.

Jay?

No "dead body" show at best buy. Timeline doesn't work. Admits being there for the burial. Knows the burial site. Knows everything about the murder and cover up.

Jay.

The saddest thing, and I hope we all realize this, is that with the finale of Serial Season 1 we are not going to discover the truth. It will not climax with Adnon being released from prison and Jay's arrest. It will not be a moment when during SK's phone interview she trips Adnon up and he finally incriminates himself. None of that is going to happen.

We're going to end where we began. Adnan will be serving a life sentence, Jay will be going about his life, and we'll be left with some introspective thought about how we as individuals judge innocence and guilt.

Be ready.

So I thought the next episode was going to be the last. Guess not. Looks like there will be at least 12 episodes and more if there is still stuff to talk about, and there might just be because it sounds like Adnan might get an appeal.

Here for most recent poll.

After episode 7, a lot of people jumped on Adnan is innocent bandwagon. Rabia deactivated her twitter account. She didn't cite this as a reason why but she said Reddit is the only place that a significant portion of the population doesn't believe in his innocence and this was unusual for her as most people who approached her on facebook and her blog etc thought adnan innocent fo sho.

Thanks for pointing me to the podcast. Caught up over the weekend. I struggle to believe Adnan is innocent. Feel like the host is trying to will him to be but I could be drunk...

Sadly I tend to agree with you. Too me it sounds like the most likely outcome is Jay was Adnans alibi and when Jay squealed Adnan was left with nothing to say.

I know this ^ is borderline propaganda but would you still vote guilty?

Has anyone else come to the realization that Jazzfanz killed Hay Min Lee?

Hea Min Lee was killed at Best Buy, and we know that Jazzfanz has been killing it at Best Buy since way back.

Whether he did it or not, the "evidence" used to convict him is staggering in the sense of how little they had. That jury must have been made up of complete and total morons. Almost like the jury used to convict a guy in Colorado named Tim Masters of a murder that he was later acquitted of, as in that case they didn't convict him with actual evidence.

The more I unfortunately follow this on Reddit the more I wonder if Adnan is actually guilty.

There are tons of questions, but there's really no alternative. Before Reddit I was thinking it must have been Jay, but really, why? Why would Jay kill her? His connection to her is very very small. He hasn't killed anyone since (obvious qualifier, that we know of). If it wasn't Jay then who? Like seriously, Hae got killed. someone did it for a reason (in their own mind). Who?

Next episode I cannnnnnnnnot wait. It goes into "is adnan psychopath theory." I hope they interview Bilal, someone who knew Adnan when he was younger and said Adnan always stole from mosque and bragged about it. Sarah kroenig said in an interview that they have had people come up to her after the podcast started that will be part of the show. Basically either Adnan choked and killed someone and lied about it to his friends and family all these years or Jay did. Currently I think 60% chance Adnan did, 30 % chance Jay did, and 10% chance someone else did who we don't know (There was a serial killer who would strangle people to death in Baltimore area who got caught in 2004 for example. However, why would Jay testify about Adnan than?)
