2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I am believe today no major player can come for Jazz. Jazz never can make good trade and are scared. Mediocre team is better money for miller. Make risk and it may not have good outcome. Scarlet cat

I don’t know what scarlet cat is, but I do know it is exactly what this situation is.

I personally think Niko would choose us, and we wouldn’t have to shell out a pick and Favors or, and Exum. I truly think we’d have a shot at Harris. Both of those guys would see an uptick of open threes, and they know it. Even if we strike out on Harris, and chose not to go after Niko, there are a lot of smaller deals that would make this team better.

It just occurred to me that we haven’t heard even one rumor to my knowledge of any connection to Aaron Gordon, just a thought.

Don't think he's really available... like if someone overpays they'd move him, but of their frountcourt guys he's the easiest to fit in modern basketball.

I think they retain Vucevic and trade one of Bamba or Isaac this summer. I wouldn't be opposed to Gordon, but I'm also not his number one fan. I can see him figuring some things out and fitting well... I wish his shooting was a little more consistent... if it was they'd likely never move him and they'd likely be in the playoffs... IDK... I kinda just want the trade deadline to be over already.

Here's one that is not being discussed a lot... lets assume we strike out on Conley/Jrue/etc:

Would you do a straight up Rubio for Dragic swap? Dragic is supposed to get back from injury around ASB. MIA might want to lower their luxury tax bill and drop off salary in order to get out of the luxury tax for next year. Rubio still allows them to compete for playoffs in the meantime. Dragic IMO fits better with this team offensively than Ricky and you get him for next year too(most likely he will pick his option).

Definition of Irony

(/noun) It's like rain on your wedding day. It's a free ride when you've already paid. It's the good advice that you just didn't take.
The irony is that nothing listed in that song is actually ironic.

They definitely aren't trading Isaac.

I don’t know how far into the luxury tax they are in but they do have Bosh’s 26 million coming off the books this year.

I don't want the Conley trade. I'm tired of sending out 1st rounders for PG rentals. (Hill and Rubio so far) We need an organic PG solution. Starting next year we should just make Exum/Mitchell the PG and live with the consequences.

What about something along these lines:

I'm making the assumption that this is a precursor to New Orleans making a deal with LA, or another suitor for AD, meaning dumping Hill has some value to them. It's not a first for Mirotic, but they get a good player with a flexible contract in Favors, and get off Hill's contract. I think that's about the best value Mirotic will pull right now.

Memphis gets their two firsts, which it seems is their main priority in dealing Conley. Most of the incoming salary is expiring.

Utah has seemed hesitant to give up more than a single first for Conley, but I guess I'm kind of imagining this as them considering it 1.5 first rounders for Conley, .5 of a first for Mirotic.

I'm on record as not actually being too into Mirotic -- and I still think he's super overrated around here -- but I could see this as a feasible approach to bringing in Conley and some additional firepower to recoup losses in outgoing value.

How about this one?

Jazz get Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier
Wizards get Derrick Favors, Grayson Allen, and 2019 Utah 1st
Magic get Ricky Rubio and Otto Porter Jr.

To me an interesting wrinkle is trading Jae for Mirotic. We all talk about Mirotic replacing Favors, but maybe he replaces Jae.

Crowder is an expiring contract next year so he gives New Orleans another trade piece or can be a part of their quick rebuild with the pieces from the Davis trade.

Crowder and one of thabo/Niang/bradley for Mirotic works.

Interesting thought, but I feel like Jae has more value to the Jazz than that. He's a major contributor on a pretty team-friendly contract.

How crushed will you be if we don't trade for Mirotic and we trade for a player that makes it impossible to sign him in the off season?
I won’t be. I will be disappointed, however, if we end up missing on people at the deadline, then in summer, and then he’s no longer a possibility. That would certainly suck. However, as a frog in a slowly boiling pot of water, I’m certain that if those scenarios played out, it would have given us time to mentally accept the idea of runningnit back and waiting for the 2020 deadline and free agency.

However, I still think he’d have a lot of value to us and isneadily our second best scorer. He shoots from deep, takes contested shots, moves the ball well, quick release. We should probably be looking at him more than we are, and I think the only reason not to make a push is with the thought that obtaining him closes the door on something else. However, last year’s door that we were afraid to close is now Allen.
