A Place for Conservatives

Lol interesting story

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reza_Barati

Caved his own head in?

They'll have a Royal Commission into Trade Unions, spend millions of tax payers dollars to find out that unions aren't friendly to corporations (Abbott also re-allocated funds for the RC into sexual abuse of children by clergy into that dog and pony show) but not the death of a foreign national in the custody of the Australian government. We should be a better country than this.

Lol unions just “aren’t friendly to corporations”. John Setka’s rap sheet is ok ??

Anyway asserting that it’s only one side who does bad things and the other side is altruistic af is just ridiculous. And I don’t like either side particularly.

Hi everyone. I had a spiritual awakening and I'm now a conservative.

Did you guys read the latest book by Dinesh D'souza? It's really eye opening. It showed me how the left are the real Nazis.

Go Trump.

At some point over the last several years I realized I'm not really a Conservative as much as I am a Libertarian. I feel that the government, especially the Federal government, should have a much smaller impact on our day to day lives.

I never agreed with traditional conservative viewpoints on topics like same-sex marriage. Why should the government have this level of control over its citizens? How can a government tell consenting adults that they can't form a legally recognized union? Of course, this idea extends way beyond just the laws of marriage.

I work as a CPA auditing exclusively State, Local, and Tribal governments. Being able to view, at an individual transaction level, how our federal and state tax dollars are spent is genuinely frightening. Whatever amount of waste you image there might be.........trust me, there is more.

While I would prefer a much smaller federal government, clearly there are others that would like the government to grow substantially (Bernie, Ocasio-Cortez, etc.).

Conservative or Liberal, I'm curious as to what size government you would prefer, and why.

I don't think they are remotely similar, immigration and people seeking asylum has been used as a political tool in this country for 20 years, we now have people interned indefinitely for exercising their human rights according to UN conventions we have signed. (The UN also being a body Australian law makers were instrumental in forming) These are internment camps where people are held without trial, indefinitely, are set up in remote isolated south pacific islands, where detainees are beaten and at least one has been murdered, most likely by the guards employed to keep him in custody.

These policies have been implemented and maintained by right and left political parties. They are an abject betrayal of what our country has stood for since the war, of our historical legacy as good international citizens, by acting in this manner we make it harder to insist that other countries respect human rights, international conventions around say conservation or nuclear non-proliferation and so on. It becomes the race to the bottom, a lawless Hobbesian international system based solely upon the idea of might is right.

Using exclusion and degeneration as political tools only leads to increased instability both internally and externally, it makes us all less safe.

I don't think identity politics has ever led to a gulag.

And identity politics keeps people divided and separate. Hence said parties in power and their terrible policies. So yes, it plays it’s part in all the ********.

There shouldn’t be a single gov document that records gender, religion or ethnicity.

Since I am basically left of center, I will respect the OP's wishes, and make this my only post to this thread. And all I really want to say should not be offensive to conservatives anyway:instead of creating safe spaces, I wish we could simply return to trying to understand this great American divide, and how to talk to each other. Sooner or later, we are going to have to. As a nation, not simply on this sports forum.

I was concerned enough about this seemingly intractable situation to post this story in one of the Trump threads:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...733af8-3ae4-11e9-a2cd-307b06d0257b_story.html

And from the above link, I also posted this opinion from the conservative publication, The National Review:

https://www.nationalreview.com/2018...lism-tech-boom-immigration-campus-radicalism/

And finally, I posted this study of "The Least Politically Prejudiced Place in America" as a template of a way forward in efforts to bridge this great American divide.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politic...w-york-tops-scale-political-tolerance/582106/

And a thread from a couple years ago:

https://jazzfanz.com/threads/conservative-and-liberal-nature-or-nurture.50784/

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, a person can know where they stand, defend that position to the hilt, and still recognize that simply slamming the other side only results in everyone talking past one another. But I don't always practice what I'm suggesting, because these are very difficult times.

This will be my only response directly to you guys:

I love how you guys like to preach about being "open-minded". If anyone brings up an opposing point of view, the VAST majority of you mock them, call them names, tell them they're an idiot, quote your stupid talking-points, etc. I get that you guys don't want to be here in this thread so move on. It will be okay in your liberal threads. Other people can have ideas and thoughts that are different than yours. It is okay.

Bawse Gawg, I said CONSERVATIVE points of view not republican. Please re-read the post and see that this is not about republican vs. democrat. It is conservative vs. liberal.

Like Red, this will be my only post in this thread.

I agree you should not be mocked or called names. We're all people, just doing our best to figure out how the world works and how to make it better. However, some ideas are inherently mockable and ill-conceived. While I try to avoid them, I do stupid, mocakable things regularly as well, and when I do, I expect people will call me out.

Still, it's my responsibility to make sure posters understand that I am not mocking them as people. I will put more effort into that in the future.

Was chilling with my conservative friends online yesterday to celebrate International Women's Day conservative style. It was a great time.

Posted on r/the_donald and got the approval of hundreds of thousands of non-sexists Trump supporters who know a woman's place. Happy International Women's Day!

And much MUCH more, that my fellow conservative will enjoy if they join the family at The_Donald. Unfortunately, the fascist Nazi mods here will ban me if I post some of the more, um, thought provoking stuff. But like I said, come on over and join us!

The government doesn't need to grow, it needs to work for the masses and not just the top 1%. That's what Bernie/AOC stand for and why people like them.

I 100% agree with the need for smaller government and I would also consider myself more of a libertarian. Thank you for adding something positive to the thread.
