Conley Officially a Jazzman

We mostly sucked against Houstons defense. We could not generate any good looks for most of the games. There was a reason all our shooters shot poorly because most of the shots were either well contested and we were forced to shoot in last seconds of 24 sec shot clock. We played better with Favors at 5 then with Rudy, how difficult is to see that?

Here ya go. Jazz per game of wide open shots in the playoffs. They lead the league in the playoffs and did better than they did in the regular season with that. We just shot the worst percentage of any team on those shots. 28% on 26 shots per game without a defender to be seen is awful. It had nothing to do with Houston, it was us missing easy shots we normally make. If we had shot our season average on those we generate 14 more points per game. Plus it opens up the inside a lot.

The main reason we have wide open shots is because of Gobert.

just realized that since Conley is going to be absorbed thru capspace on top of the 3 players contracts Jazz lose the MLE. Is there any capspace left after the trade? Cause the rotation looks very thin. It's basically Dedex, Royce plus Niang. Yuck...

Can the Jazz offer Favors a new contract at a lower annual rate? Would this open more cap space?

Yes and yes (I think).

We can waive him and if he clears the waiver wire I believe we could sign him to a new contract then. But we would not have money to re-sign him for much since we would not have bird rights. We are better off keeping him and using our MLE and TPE and keeping Favors. It actually gives us more money to sign players and more flexibility in the future for trades and moves.

Technically yes, but I don't think it's a very good idea. Assuming Favors isn't signing some mega discount we open like 4-5M a season (so say he signs for 12M a year) at the risk of some other team claiming him off waivers when we waive him.

If we keep Favors at his current number, we get the $4.7 million room exception and minimum contracts. We also have the $3.9 million trade exception from the Burks/Korver trade.

Just a quick count so I may be off by one or two but...

20+one point games last season.

Conley-42
Rubio-10

10+ assist
Conley-11
Rubio-12

10+ free throws
Conley-10
Rubio-4

5+ turnovers
Conley-2
Rubio 10

Total GP
Conley-70
Rubio-68

But you're comparing a teams 1st option's numbers with a guy who as a role player for his team. Conley's numbers are inflated here.

We will be over the cap but under the hard cap. So we will still have the MLE and bi-annual to use. Unless we waive Favors then we have 3 million in space but the MLE drops from standard 9.2 mil to the room MLE that is 4.7 mil. The bi-annual is 3.6 mil. Plus we can sign players to vet min.

Oh, plus the trade exception from Burks.

We have plenty of room to make a few more moves.

It is surprising to see this because watching games it looked like we could not do anything against Houston's defense, especially with Rudy on the court. How would you explain him having worst +/- in 4 games vs Houston then and that we won the game where he played the least?
And again, I love Rudy, I want him to retire a Jazzman but I do not believe with his current skill set on offense we can contend.

Room exception totals to about 10 mil over a couple of years. Tough to lure anyone good. At full MLE contract you can hope for Mirotic, while RE is not a chance. I guess it's better than nothing.

Can’t wait to watch the Jazz start stomping teams after reading realGM. So many posters completely ignorant of Gobert and how and why the Jazz lost these last playoffs.

Conley is a significant, bordering on massive, upgrade for Utah in exactly the areas we need. Decrease TOS, D at the point, shooting and another playmaker.

Gonna be extremely fun.

It was not his best series. Favors was clearly better in this series. That is whats nice about having them both. They have their strengths and weaknesses and match up better or worse in different situations. Gobert is clearly the better player though across the season. Although I dont think Favors is that far behind.

I would be okay with trading Gobert if it landed us another all-star and starting Favors. But that wont happen for the Jazz. We dont trade All-NBA players that want to be here. Which is also okay with me.

Inside the paint things got bottled up because we could not hit open shots. This happens to every team when they are cold from outside. It is shocking the Jazz were cold for that many games in a row. No idea why. Maybe their legs were worn out from making a push at the end of the season. We need to be better in the regular season so we arent struggling to get a good seed at the end.
