How can that be when JCs are still here?

I mean we want the team to be bad so let the players play losing ball. Whining really does nothing except makes this season more insufferable.
If a guy is being selfish we gonna call him on it. Key was clearly not super serious last night which I don’t love but it’s not the end of the world. If guys aren’t playing the right way during the season we should feel free to complain. One of the biggest questions facing this team is “can Key be the pgotf”. It’s summer league and it’s the first game and clearly he was kinda loose. As my daughters would say… it’s not that deep. It’s fine but dude was a black hole last night… when summer league gets ugly that’s kinda what it turns into.

I just dont get going overboard about a guy taking too many shots in SL. It's not like Keyonte was missing open players (didnt re-watch, maybe I'm wrong). Hendricks/Williams didnt like they could do anything with the ball in the half-court. Sensabaugh was a TO machine and Walker is Walker (and Keyonte did find him once or twice). I didnt groan at too many Keyonte shots. He took a lot, but he was getting himself open.

Collier had some nicer drive and kick here and there, but he actually missed wide open players.
He missed several guys on the perimeter lol. It’s fine and we don’t need to go overboard but we also don’t need to treat him like the anointed one.

Yeah thats why I posted the plead.

That one shot early against a double team was horrible, but for the handles part I think he fared pretty well against Pippens constant swiping and grabbing.

Plus he was money from the FT line and drawing fouls on drives.

It was a great performance. He was getting beat up and he kept going and won the game for the team. He should have had 20+ FTs and he was being guarded by a good NBA guard defender.

I dont really *like* the way Keyonte played, but he was effective and without him the Jazz get totally smoked.

Yes, I do want Keyonte to be more of a PG, but his best skill is going to be scoring and getting his shot off. I'm glad he came out against a good squad and dominated. It's a great sign and I have no idea why there is an overall negative outlook on the performance.

Oh I have no trouble pointing out he was selfish and played hero ball. Did it myself.

But pointing out every single mistake or play is not that. If you do that, then also point out the good plays.

lol. Okay. He got fouled a lot on the perimeter with them being overly aggressive and got a lot of free throws. I doubt he has that amount of free throws in any game next year. Shot making was still iffy… the passing and playmaking was premeditated… the defense was the same as last year. He was fine but we don’t need to glaze him or crucify him.

Cody didnt really do much, but he is so graceful in the air. Just has a way of navigating the ball in traffic in a very controlled way. Was pleasantly surprised he took some off the dribble midrange shots and they looked solid.

I really dont have much for Hendricks ever figuring things out to be more than a fairly strict 3&D player. He really has to learn to self-motivate to play hard when he isnt getting the ball because he just isnt going to get the ball that much given his extremely limited skillset. Him and Walker kind of have similar issues in that I feel like they both want to be more than they are, but if they just play hard they are going to be fine and make a lot of money in the NBA, but they will sulk and press the issue unnecessarily if they arent getting the ball.

Come on, man. 28 points on 17 shots, but that's with 17 FTs. How many more scoring opportunities are those 17 FTs? Lets say 8. So... it's 28 points on 25 scoring opportunities. His TS is 51%, his eFG is 31%. However we twist it... lets not act like this is efficient offense.

Haven't noticed any sulking from Taylor. I worry about feel with him but if you look at where he was last year to this year just handling the ball without being tragic is big. He needs to be a wrecking ball out there though and I am not sure he is ever special unless something clicks in there full time.

Unserious a good way to describe his play last night. What’s kind of interesting is that at the beginning of last season, he seemed like the most mature of all the guards that were getting time (THT/Sexton/JC). Looking back on that I feel like that was mostly a result of him being a nervous rookie instead of good, measured play.

I think it’s good for Key and Brice to have some extra freedom, but there is too much of a good thing and I’m really hoping that they are able to turn the switch at some point and play like real players. I’m the last guy to worry about this stuff, but while I want to let the kids play free and tank I can see the extreme amount of freedom they have turn into a negative for their development.

Key and Brice can turn around and have great games next time and we’ll all forget about this. But we have to have a higher standard for them. If this is a “great game”….I can’t see them being serious players anytime soon.

His feel is obviously a concern, but his activity level needs to be more consistent imo. Thought it was OK tonight, but it was like a 7/10…he needs to be a 10/10 every night. One of the reasons he was impressing last year is that he was hustling like crazy and getting tons of loose balls, rebounds, deflections, blocks, etc.

So your theory is that Hardy went rogue against the front office and refused to listen to them, and so Ainge, in retaliation, traded Ochai/Simone/Olynyk for picks primarily as a result of Hardy's malfeasance?

That's your theory?
Nah. They just weren't on the same page with everything.

I think it's much simpler that what you typed. I think coaches job is to win. I think ainge job is to create a team to win a championship. Sometimes those two things can be at odds with each other. Especially during a tank.
In think ainge traded gobert, Mitchell, O'Neal, bogey etc because he wanted losses. I think we were winning to much so he made trades to lose more.
Last year I think we were again winning too much (last season i think he also didn't want to give our pick to okc so that was another factor) and he also wanted to see what guys like Brice and Hendricks could do (also probably wanted to see more Kessler) but they weren't getting into the rotation so ainge made some trades to lose more and keep the pick while also getting guys some minutes.
Or maybe he saw that Simone was playing great as a starter and KO was a very nice fit with the team and playing great in the rotation but when he saw that he could get the amazing assets of picks 29 and 32 he got stars in his eyes. He just couldn't pass up such a haul so he sold high on KO and Simone. (Also threw in ochai)

Yes... at the end of the season once he kinda oriented himself he was a lot more active. I think second half he was better so hopefully it was a "first game" type of adjustment.

GMs kinda over thought that. Can you imagine if he’d had come out the year before and been an end of first guy.
Ya I watched him play a few years ago and thought he looked amazing but draft pros were thinking he was too much of a dinosaur to be in the NBA.
