2011 draft.....

I don't know that the projected lottery picks are worth lottery picks. Time to expand my vision of lottery pick value - at least for this weak year.

I can agree with you here. This draft really sucks. The fact that Jimmer well prob be gone by the time we have our second pick blows my mind. This is the same player that couldn't even get a guarentee to picked any place first round pick last year. I know he lead the nation in scoring and all this year but after working out not being able to be even a first round talent last year shows that this is a week draft

Posted this in the "who should we pick at 6 thread." Thought it deserved a post here if anyone hasn't posted it already. 181 pages in, so I have no idea if it has. Knight to me is up there with Kanter and ahead of Bismack. JMO.

I think a knight/leonard knight/burkes is a very solid draft and any combo would be a great haul in ANY draft. Knight will be a solid starter, borderline allsar. Burkes and leonard will also be starters in the league. While there may not be any superstars in this draft i see 3-4 all stars and potentially 13-14 starters. Everyone is so whiney. I mean some of you are talking about bertains now with the 12th? There is far better, proven talent at 12.

You have to appreciate the fact nearly every 3 he takes is NBA range. Those extra 3 feet often make or break a good college shooter.

Count me in the group that thinks the Jazz already have a solid/borderline all-star and that Knight would be superfluous, which I'd rather not waste that high a pick on someone who MIGHT be as good or slightly better than Harris. That's why I'd swing for the higher risk/higher reward player at a different position.

It's not really a position the Jazz need to fill unless it's a significant studly upgrade. There are solid starter PGs available in every draft @ non-lottery draft spots.

Graded on a curve in this year's draft class Knight gets an A-. But it's a weak draft. Any decent year Knight would be drafted mid - latter half of the first round. maybe even early second round. This high you gotta take chances on higher ceiling guys that might yield more of a return than guys that any other year you could get even while making the playoffs. JMO.

I'm of the opinion that playing it safe and sticking with proven pretty good but kind of underwhelming talent is the wrong way to go. Aim for the higher ceiling. ...I don't know who that is so maybe KOC should see if he can trade out.

To me it is all about BPA. If he is the best player available at 6 then you have to take him. I for one am scared off by the Euros. The question marks with Kanter are a little alarming. The real question is why not use the pick now(in this weak draft) and then we don't have to use one on a PG next year in the deeper draft. I don't see Harris as a good fit with us. JMO. Oh and this is all null if we get the 1st or 2nd pick because we know it will be either Irving or DWill with those picks.

I agree BPA is the best way to go. But when it comes to a position like PG - a position where you can get good value later in the draft - it pains me to use a top 10 pick on one. That's not to say that you never use a top 10 pick on a PG. If the Jazz got the 1st pick we'd be having a different conversation - one where we'd probably be agreeing on who to take. But if it's not Irving then I say gamble the pick on a more valuable BIG.

I also agree that the Euros are scary. There's a stigma. But the BPA at 6 and/or 12 may very well be European (non-American). I realize it's a gamble but most the stateside kids leave me a little limp. And the playoffs MVP right now is a Euro, so let's keep our xenophobia in check - for Jazz' sake.

Finally, I agree Harris probably doesn't fit with the Jazz. But he's only had half a season in the Jazz system - AND the system may be different next year under the new coach. There are a lot of question marks so I think Harris will get this next year to see if he will fit into the new or same Jazz system and if he doesn't fit then there's next year's deeper draft to grab a PG. This is why I don't want to waist this year's picks on PGs even if they are BPA (again, Irving's another conversation).

We agree on a lot - I'm just voicing my misgivings on where we differ.

For some reason, I think this draft may surprise a lot of people in a few years of being pretty solid.

You Son of a Bitch.... Just kidding, you make valid points. Good post.

Swinging for the fences on lottery picks is the best way to destroy a franchise. You do know knight is 18 right? You dont think he has upside?
