I don’t like the revisionist draft prospect stuff because it’s such a crap shoot... just saying if we wanted a development big... they were available later... take one at 42 and whatever wing or pg prospect you like best at 29. Roster spots yada yada... we’d have been fine.

But seriously, Vonleh is probably worth at least a look. I started to hear some rumblings on podcasts about him, so I think he's not going to be a total secret come FA period. But he still may be cheaper than many other options.

HH: curious on what you think his upside as an offensive creator is. I note (with some amazement from what I thought about him early in his career), that his assists per 100 possessions are nearly double Favors. And some of the articles I've read on him talk about him getting back somewhat to his point-forward skills from AAU days. But I haven't watched him play this year at all.

I like that: he's a great rebounder (not as good offensive, but probably better defensive than Favors), he seems to be the Knicks' +/- darling this year, he's still only 23, he's turned into a pretty good three point-shooter this year, and the stuff I've read suggest that he holds up defensively both as a big and in switching situations.

But his usage rate is very low (and he's not particularly efficient from 2-point territory for a low usage guy) and people still talk about him disappearing in games. Is this because the Knicks just have too many gunners or because he's likely to never have the skill/offensive aggression to turn into at least an average usage player?

I get it that and back it, but Hart was drafted with the Jazz's original pick for god's sake. And it's not as though the Jazz couldn't use another wing. Having other players that are franchise cornerstones at the same position obviously isn't an issue for the franchise, either.

Noah Vonleh has turned into an interesting NBA player with the Knicks, which is even more of a credit to his work ethic and skill development because the entire Knicks offense often boils down to "my turn your turn" ISO garbage.

I wouldn't want to be the team to take a gamble on Mudiay for example because I'm about 95% sure he's just a good stats/bad team kinda guy right now, and when Mudiay looks bad it looks real bad since he often dominates the ball alot... but I love the theoretical fit of Vonleh for the Jazz. I just don't think the Knicks would part with him as he fits beside KP/Mitchell pretty nicely and can anchor the 5 by himself for stretches defensively.

Yeah, the Knicks probably want to keep him. And he probably wants to reward the team that gave him his big shot to finally get minutes. But he is an UFA at the end of the year, so his future seems somewhat up for grabs.

after now having watched Vonleh's assists and FG attempts for the season (through NBA.com/stats), I'm pessimistic that he has the offensive creation skills the Jazz need. Almost all his 3-point attempts were when left totally wide open. And seemingly at least half his assists were when he was uncontested out beyond the three-point line, gave a handoff to a teammate and proceeded to screen for that teammate in order to produce an open jumper -- not a bad skill to have, but not really the stuff of sustainable offensive creation.

Trade for Blake Griffin.

I know, some will bash the idea. Blake is overpaid. Blake is injury prone. Blake is aging. Gotcha.

But think about it...

- our team is old anyway; just go for it
- the guy scores 25ppg and can score in a multitude of ways
- Detroit has a terrible team and he still produces
- Mitchell is on a rookie deal through most of Blake's deal
- most our key guys are signed through most of Blake's deal
- our team sucks at free agency; Blake is a proven great player
- we could try with this roster and then rebuild around Mitchell with a different roster in a few years


Damn it would be bold, but seems like it would work. He would provide the offense we sorely lack. I bet we could get him for cheap since Detroit sucks and could blow it all up to rebuild. Blake was a last ditch effort by Van Gundy who is now gone.

Minnesota and Cleveland should re-swap Love and Wiggins. For Minnesota, it gets them off Wiggins’ toxic deal in exchange for Love’s, brings back hometown hero, and gives them a shakeup. Cleveland, why they ever signed him to that extension is beyond me, but they at least get someone younger that maybe a change of scenery would benefit.

It’s a step up from your other idiot trade idea of getting Parker and Russell. I’d do it, but I haven’t heard any rumors that he’s even on the block, and if he were some other team would easily outbid us.
