2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Is Cam Whitmore the guy that jumps off of 2 legs? If so no thanks for me.

Canon Wallace .. worry about his 3pt shooting.. the list of Pg that can’t shoot is too long.. MCW, elfrid payton, etc..
i mean yes. and no. sometimes he jumps off two feet, sometimes one.

He's one of those dudes where it's just head scratching. Had all the tools and skills, but just never worked out. He's having a great Euro league career too, so he's probably a hard worker. Some players just can't translate their game to the NBA level despite it seeming like they should. It's the hidden element of the draft that is hard to account for.

I loved Wade Baldwin out of the draft....but I'm pretty sure he is kinda crazy. Gets into beef with teammates and I think that's why MEM cut him so quickly. He's also the guy that made me rethink some thinks. He was really poor at finishing at the rim in college, and since then I've given that more consideration instead of assuming a guy can finish well if he looks athletic.

There are plenty of great players in NBA history who are 2 foot jumpers. It's not as good as being versatile at both, but it's far from a death sentence: see Donovan Mitchell
and he uses both so it's a non issue regardless. in fact the more highlights i watch it's probably 70/30 one foot to two feet

I liked him a lot... he did try and fight Grayson at summer league... its Grayson so I get it... but also who is fighting in summer league?

Oh yeah, everyone uses both but to get above the rim Don is almost exclusively a 2 foot jumper. That's what I think OL means because no one exclusively jumps off 1 or 2 for everything.

I'm not writing Jabari Smith off....but it's a good reminder that there are no guarantees especially when it comes to shooting. One of the reason I really hesitate to set high floors. Whenever you start thinking, "this guy for sure is very good/elite" at something....I like to step back and realize how many of these guys bust and/or how many skills don't translate for one reason or another.

Its smart to be cautious... but that's no fun. Taylor is KD with a blend of John Collins and that is the end of this discussion okay!!!!

Sam in a recent podcast said he has Hendricks in his top 12 and speaking to teams some think he may go top 10
I heard that... I think he goes top 10 because of how much uncertainty there is with so many of these guys.

Give me your guys personal rankings of these 8 players:

Ausar Thompson
Keyonte George
Jarace Walker
Can Whitmore
Anthony Black
Cason Wallace
Nick Smith Jr
Gradey Dick

Ausar
Hendo
Black
Cam
Jarace
George
Dick
Wallace
NSJ - I'm just not a fan and I can't fully explain it.

I think the Jazz may end up going with Black or George with their first pick and going wing with the Minny pick. Not sure they will really view it that way but looking at boards there are a few wings available around 17ish that I like quite a bit. I could also see them just going wing/wing without much regard to position and just taking the best available talent. Teams always need more wings so no harm in stacking a few guys if you feel they are the best on the board.

Tony Jones said on Twitter today he’d be an amazing fit on the Jazz.. not sure why he said that.
It is probably because he thinks we need a better defender in the guard core and that would be the only reason.
Point guard is putting him in a box, but since he cant shoot much, but can pass some and plays good defense against smaller guards in college I guess thats what he is smh . That and has "the look" and likes to use his defensive IQ to draw fouls, despite his meh handles, poor p/n game and lack of finishing ability with any control. he does like to fight for rebs I give him that.
I think there are greater odds Black is the biggest bust taken in the top 10 if orgs fall for his facade.

If Taylor Hendricks measures out at 6'10" in shoes, he becomes really appealing. The question with him has been what he can do off the dribble, but if he's 6'10" he doesn't actually have to do much off the dribble. He'll just pick his spots and shoot over people like Anthony Davis does.

defnitely somebody we all should hope gets the attention of DA, well if higher floor options with similar potential, are already taken anyway. I might even consider taking this guy at 8 to 12 with our first pick if he is willing to work out for the Jazz in person and doesn't make the Jazz scouts go see him in Miami Orlando etc.

I would take Wallace, NSJ, Black, and Auser and put them behind the others there in Keyonte,Walker, Dick and probably put Hawkins, Hendricks, GG right there with Wallace NSJ Black Auser etc. Then throw Howard, L.Miller,Sidy, Sasser, Jones, Brice, Whitehead, Hood, Smith all in that same range of who the **** knows where they will go.
I have George and Walker as the best prospects in the list you show, followed by Dick,Hendricks and Hawkins.
I think Whitmore is in the same tier as NSJ and Wallace but might go sooner.

Walker - I think he is one of the best defenders in this draft with a shot that looks good. So much potential.
Whitmore - Seems to have the full package
Thompson - His shot just scares me. His athletism excites me
Wallace - I am just a big fan and think he would be perfect on the Jazz
Hendricks - I just moved him up 2 spots because he is perfect in the Jazz backcourt with Kessler and Lauri
Smith Jr - Has the IT factor for me but his frame worries me
George - Honestly I am not a fan saw an early game and I hated the way he played. His shots seemed to be hero ball type of shots. It has been hard to get that taste out of my mouth
Dick - With a little viagra I could love this pick. The problem is I have been up and down on him. Defense scares me.
Black - Is a solid pick and has a lower floor but is kinda ho hum

I think he has an nba ready body and two nba ready skills. He’s likely going to be great as a roll man. I don’t see him needing to develop a dribble game to be super effective at the nba level. If he develops off the dribble he moves into an all star type tier. I’d just rather have guys that have good off ball stuff and develop the on ball stuff as you go.

He’s not just a stand still shooter either. He’s a knock down guy that can shoot with some motion. I can see him developing similar to Lauri with his height and shooting ability.

I get it. I'm obsessed with finding All Stars. Hendricks can be one if he keeps developing. Someone on the roster needs to self-create at a high level.
