2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Just based on today, Hawkins looks lazy, scrawny, uninspired, and like he only takes bad shots. I haven’t watched him much prior, but he is not looking like a lottery pick or even a first rounder even. He’s not even been one of the 5 or 6 most impressive players in this game. I know this is harsh, but he has been really bad.

Scoot fills a huge need for us (not to say Miller doesn't) I don't think we'd pass on him. A playmaker, freak athlete, with elite scoring upside. We needs it.
Last time we drafted for need was Trey Burke. So its not always a good Idea to draft for need. You take the best player and figure it out. Portland didn't draft Michael Jordan because they already had Clyde the Glide.

I mean hawkins has the the offense built around him and Keyonte is getting his off the dribble. Dick is assimilating into the offense in a little more reasonable way given his talents and the quality of the team he is on.

Which is why I mentioned that his coach might not allow for it multiple times. I would really love to see him unleashed, this is not a knock on him it's an objective observation.

That’s two straight clunkers I’ve seen from Hawkins. Really didn’t like his lack of intensity today. I still find his quick shooting to be intriguing, but he’s definitely played himself out of the lottery for me. Maybe take a look at him in the late first round?

I like some of these other wings. Dick really looked good yesterday.

There is a difference between a coach not allowing it and a coach building his offense around it. I might prefer 5 threes over 9 if they come in the natural flow of my other actions and aren't because I ran 5 pin down screens to free him up.

We need to go after the best talent. There seems to be a ton of talented wings and guards in this draft. I’d love for us to go after the longest and most athletic of them.

It's one in the same for me. If it's not a part of the gameplan, it's the coach that's the reason why he's not shooting more. The coach is trying to win a basketball game and not trying to figure out if Dick can be a super volume shooter so it's understandable (even if I think most NCAA coaches stink and are in the stone ages). For evaluation purposes, I would definitely prefer to see him in an expanded role. I mean....does anyone not want to see what he would be like at a higher volume? I saw someone here talking about him in a top 5 context. For that, I would have to see him in a higher usage role than he is.

I don’t really care… because the environment he functioned in is more likely the environment I would have him in. I think it’s just as fair to worry about how a guy would fair when he isn’t getting every possible rep.
