2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

I've crunched some numbers and a Lauri -> GSW trade is nearly impossible or might actually be impossible. BYC on Kuminga's S&T and first apron restrictions make it extra hard. That ship has sailed.

No one ever said sports trade bettors were very smart people.

There's probably around 5 total people involved in the "what team will Lauri Markkanen get traded to if he's traded" market.

Seems like KD -> SAS is gonna happen. I think DET would probably be the most likely Lauri destination, but we probably won't be trading him. That's my #ToneWatch.

Golden State could make it work with Utah but it would have to include a S&T with Jonathan Kuminga.

The Warriors would need to send out $36,825,280 of salary at minimum to the Jazz for Lauri Markkanen. This is because if you send outgoing salary over 29M you can take back 125% of the amount you send out plus 250K.

The S&T salary for the team sending out only counts as 50% of their new salary outgoing. For example, if a players new salary is 20M only 10M of it counts as outgoing.

Moses Moody + Buddy Hield + Trayce Jackson-Davis gets you to $23,015,264.

That would mean year 1 of Kuminga’s extension would have to be at least $27,700,032 or more to make the deal legal.

Those four players plus draft compensation would almost certainly have to be the deal unless you swap in Brandin Podziemski for TJD.

KD's playstyle absolutely sucks for winning these days, but it's fine if he's replacing Devin Vassell, one of the very few players in the NBA worse than Durant at passing.

If Giannis stays, they have to do a Dame trade. Not just for next season, but also for cap space aspirations in Summer 26. The plan for MIL should be to open as much cap space as possible for that summer. Max player (or multiple very good FA's) + Giannis signing extension would be the end goal and they probably can't get one without the other.

I don't think there exists a team with better one year contract players than Utah. Am I missing anyone? Sexton + Collins is pretty good to just make it into the east playoffs. Maybe Portland with Ayton + Simons? Crap I really love that move for POR.
What the Hell are we getting back for this? I don't see the reason to give up good players on expiring contracts for that absolute albatross of a contract. The Bucks have little to give us to justify that.

Lauri would take them past the first apron, which means the Warriors can’t take back more than 100%. The only way I made it “work” is including GP3 (could be Looney) in a sign and trade to make their outgoing > Lauri’s contract. But for the Jazz to acquire that salary, Moody would have to go into a trade exception. Which I think is possible.

Anyways, I’m not spend any more energy thinking about that possibility. Ship has sailed.

The fact that they are somehow favorites is a joke.

I wasn’t taking into account it would push them into the 1st apron. It ain’t happening.

KOC talking Lauri to Magic. Cole + Isaacs works money wise

This fit is absolutely miserable, but IDK, maybe.

The issue again is that the Magic are going to offer the Jazz almost nothing for Lauri. They're going to owe 80% to 85% to Franz, Paolo, and Lauri alone and the ownership is the worst in the NBA and won't go above the tax (121% of the cap).
