A bunch of Biyombo game footage videos

here are some excerpts from Ford (espn insider):

On the court, he disappointed. Biyombo decided to skip the game and drill portion of the camp, and instead did a one-on-none workout in front of 100 or so NBA scouts and GMs... Biyombo looked understandably nervous and it seemed to affect his game. Much of the workout focused on his perimeter skills -- a major weakness of Biyombo. He missed roughly 75 to 80 percent of the shots he took in this portion of the workout....

In fact, several NBA sources who saw his workouts in Spain said he looked better when NBA teams were allowed to ask him to do specific big man drills... As one GM summed it up, "Bismack Biyombo played one-against-none today … and he lost."... I've also heard a number of reports from NBA teams that he looked much better in Spain and knocked it out of the park in his interviews. I had the chance to sit down with him for almost an hour and I see the appeal. He's smart, articulate and has a really amazing story...

As for his draft stock, I still think he goes somewhere between 8 and 20. That is, admittedly, a pretty wide range with just 10 days to go before the draft... But his physical talents along with his production in the ACB this year suggest, at the very minimum, he'll have a long career in the league as a defensive stopper in the paint.

I wouldn't care if the Jazz took him at 12. Not my first choice, but I could care less anyways. 12 is most likely going to be a bust anyways. If the Jazz took him at three, or if Knight/Irving is available and they took Biyombo, then the Jazz are freaking crazy.

HAHA that's funny. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm not terribly upset his draft stock and falling and would still love to grab him at 12 though.

This, rookie.

I'm thrilled that his stock is dropping. If he'd done well in that workout he'd be going at or near the top of the draft. It doesn't concern me (or surprise me) that he couldn't hit jumpers with 100 execs staring at him. If Detroit doesn't take him at 8 I think he might be there for us at 12. What a steal that would be! If anybody thought they were drafting him for outside shooting they're crazy so it doesn't concern me that he failed that portion of the exam. His shooting mechanics aren't too bad, btw. I hope none of the GM's drafting ahead us agree with me, though.

Derrick Williams falling to 3 is probably more likely than Biyombo falling to 12

Even if Detroit passes on him you never know who trades for the 9-11 picks

We've seen it happen before to the jazz with Ty Lawson

It's probably less of a stretch than the Eaton comparison, though still a poor one, but I just keep thinking how bad I wanted Thabeet (the last huge upside defensive big in the lottery) and then I remind myself where the guy is now... I just don't have a good feeling about Biyombo.

I can't say that I've seen a lot about this guy that I like. Defense is important, especially when it comes to building a championship contender, but that seems to be the only legitimate thing Bismack seems to bring to the table. But, how long until he's got 2 quick fouls and has to head back to the bench? Where is the offense, outside of dunks? And when he gets hacked inside like many seem to think he will, how often will he hit his free throws? I see a lot more Hasheem Thabeet than Serge Ibaka when I look at this kid.

Reminds me of a kid who started at Providence College when I was a student there: N'Dongo N'Diaye or some spelling like that, who was this project out of Senegal. Nice kid -- I spoke to him a few times. He spoke five languages, was taking high end math classes and all that, was 7'1" and like 190 lbs. Long arms, was supposed to be a rebounder and a defensive presence, and was supposed to have all this upside. Kid was a disaster and left long before we would have graduated. I have no idea what he did after he left PC.

Given the state of the Jazz right now, with projects like Derrick Favors, Fes, Hayward, and Ante Tomic, I just think that long-term potential is not a luxury we can afford with our draft picks this year. The priority in this draft has to be getting players who can play significant minutes and contribute solidly, off the bench or otherwise, by mid-season if at all possible.

Thabeet is an entirely different player than Biyombo though. Space eater v. athlete. Biyombo at 12 would be fantastic.

But Biyombo has rebounded well, blocked shots and stayed out of foul trouble while playing in the second best league in the world (much better than NCAA competition). He's not being drafted as a complete unknown. He's a very productive young player (who hits 55% of his free throws...which, relative to a lot of legit bigs in the NBA, is not all that bad).

As I mentioned a few pages back - I don't think you can compare Biyombo to all previous 7-foot busts who were projected to be "shotblockers." A big difference with Biyombo is while he has the length - 7-6 wingspan (which is 3" longer than Dwight Howard) 9-3 standing reach (same as Dwight Howard - both WS/SR significantly longer than Tyson Chandler's) to block shots and rebound, he also has the athleticism to play defend the pick-and-roll and hustle all over the court. When you look at lottery picks from the past 10 years , there's a short list of big men who can block shots AND move their feet.

Guys like Joel Anthony and Chuck Hayes had very little offensive skill at the nba level - yet still were starters for playoff teams because of their toughness/rebounding/ability to defend screen-roll - and neither of those players was an above the rim shot-blocker like Biyombo. Biyombo may never be Ben Wallace - but worst-case I think he's still an off-the-bench guy who can help you win games with his defense and hustle. Think Utah could do alot worse than him with the 12th pick.
