What's new

Aaron Gordon....Are you serious? Disaster.....Disaster.....

Yes, but the defensive IQ only gets you so far. Elite defense requires both the knowledge, plus physical attributes: size, length, quickness, speed

Let's say Scottie Pippin (one of highest defensive IQs ever), was 6'3 (not 6'7), 6'9 wingspan (not 7'3), 39" vertical (not 48"), less lateral quickness, etc

Now you have something like Jeff Hornacek (also one of the highest defensive IQs ever)

I was not thinking of the controllably lenghtenable limbs when I was saying those about the defense. That would be really cool though. I believe in the future, scientists will help the game of basketball to improve in that matter and players will grow with the proper DNA altering medication. The game will change a lot.

Hell they'll even have retro simulations of the players from MJ to Penny, from Cousey to Steve Francis.

Gordon is a risk. He's no sure thing. It just shows you how ****ed we are being outside the top 3.

We have to now take a huge risk. We have the go with one of the guys that has star (albeit long shot) potential.

I still have faith that we are going to trade up.

Parker or Gordon. That's pretty much where I'm at right now. I think that Wiggins and Embiid are going 1 and 2. I'm not sure if Philly loves Parker. Maybe they do. . . but if they don't, then they might be willing to trade back two spots for a windfall. If they don't, then you take Gordon and work your *** off to turn him into the best possible version of himself. I love his attitude, his fire and his work ethic. I think that he can become one of the top 3 players from this draft. His offense is a huge red flag, but I still like him better than Exum, Vonleh, Smart and Randle - all of whom have huge red flags as well.

This draft is ALL about potential. Those who live up to it will be Superstars. There's about 10-12 who could potentially end up in that range, but history suggests that more than half of them will be average at best or flame out completely. It's pretty hit and miss to tell which 18-19 year old prospects will continue to grow and improve at the NBA level. All things considered, I like the chances for Parker and Gordon to improve the most. If they can't get Parker, then they need to sit tight and draft the best player who falls to them.

Well, Yamers and I finally agree on something. Aaron Gordon is the one guy I don't want us to draft - he has the biggest bust potential.

Karl Malone will be there to help Gordon improve his free throws. Gordon will start talking to himself at the line.

Wiggins is a risk. Embiid is a risk. Heck, even Jabari is a risk because of his defense.

This.

Every single one of these guys has major red flags. The potential is amazing, but there's risk associated with each and every single player this year. And it's so hard to predict which 18-20 year old players will actually make the jump to the next level. There's so many factors that can cause them to fail or succeed. We won't know for years which guys will actually live up to the hype, but history suggests that at least half of the top picks won't work out the way they're being projected.

Part of the problem is that expectations have gotten so high for these guys. It's highly likely that Wiggins isn't the next LeBron, Embiid isn't going to become Hakeem, Parker won't be the next 'Melo, Exum won't be the next Kobe, Vonleh won't be as good as Bosh and Gordon won't become Scottie Pippen.

That's who these guys are being compared to. The potential for greatness is there for all of them. It's going to come down to which players work hard, continue to develop their bodies and their games, who ends up drafting them and how they fit in with their new teams and coaches. All I want is for the Jazz to identify who has the greatest potential for them and DRAFT HIM. Regardless of who might currently be playing his same position or not, I want the best players possible. You should always acquire the best players you can to build around and then figure out how to make all of the pieces fit together. That's why it's important to have a good GM and a good coach.

I was initially down on Gordon too. But I'm not so sure anymore. There's so much to like about him. I couldn't believe people were pimping him at first but now I'm getting sweet on him.

His shot is the concern. The only concern. But it's a big factor. But will he work on it? I'm confident he will. I have more confidence in Gordon's basketball mind than AK's. And AK was very good at a lot of things. He just needed a better outside shot - which he worked on, but it never really struck fear into opposing defenses.

Tweeners are difficult, but Gordon seems like a smart, great kid. I'm impressed with him. I just hope he can play the 3.
