Are you guys completely cool with your kids dating/marrying someone of a different race?

Scenario: Your 16 year old daughter likes a guy. Invites him over for dinner one night.


Family gets excited. Door bells, you (mother or father) open the door. Theres some black dude chilling at the door, same age as your daughter.

You don't know anything about his personality just yet. Let's say he's dressed like a normal 16 year old dude.


What his your first reaction? Does it change as the night goes on?

I am totally fine with whatever race they would be ( I have two daughters ). I will be not fine with her date's/husbands religion if it is derogatory to the women and requires them to hide their hair or face or puts any kind of restrictions to clothing, diet, etc. Thankfully my older daughter is growing as free spirit and I have very very hard time seeing her ending up with some religious nutcase.

Well, I married someone of a different ethnicity and so did my sister. My parents didn't blink an eye. Don't imagine I would get too worked up about it.

First and foremost, I hate when people reference the current year because if you disagree with them you must be out of touch. Sorry. It's a pet peeve.

OK, now that I have that out of the way, I have three daughters and would have no problem with them dating or marrying a different race as long as:

1. They treat my daughter with respect and love
2. Are motivated and have a strong work ethic
3. Do not like the Lakers (this seemingly eliminates 75% of all hispanics)
4. Don't wear their pants hanging off their asses

I would much rather have my daughters be with someone like I describe above that some asshat like Justin Bieber.

Um, objecting to your children's marrying someone because you disapprove of their skin's melanin% is clearly out of touch with modern Western social norms. How is that in dispute? I don't think a person with those views can even be represented in any mainstream medium as anything but a villain...

I like 1-4. I see those as entirely a product of how they were raised and have nothing to do with skin color.

I fully expect at some point far down the road for "races" to die out. There will be so many mixed marriages and bluring of all race lines that it wont matter any more. Just look at the recent explosion of multracial marriages.

Good thread. Exposes stupid losers who doesn't know the difference between religious identity and racial identity (if there ever is something like that!).

To me there is a race for stupid, ignorant, self-centered, egocentric-ethnocentric people. I wouldn't want her to hang out with him if he is from that race.
