One of the problems we have with guns is that most of the mass shooters are young (white) males who don’t have felony records. They might have misdemeanors and school discipline records longer than the Golden Gate Bridge. They may have even been accused of committing a felony. But unless they’ve been CONVICTED of a felony, their ability to legally purchase a gun from any store remains unrestricted. This doesn’t take into account private sales, where regulation practically doesn’t exist. This is made so easy on the Internet.

The other problem is the lack of training and accountability. Most states just 10 years ago required that you obtain a concealed carry permit if you wanted to pack heat in public places. This required you pay for a permit and undergo training. But the Republican Supreme Court has virtually gutted these laws. Now any yokel can buy an armory of weapons and pack heat in public places without any training.

How wouldn’t this end in disaster?

Incel means "involuntary celibate". It is a group of men that cannot get women who band together to hate women and the men they are with. A man who can get women they label a "Chad", and have a cartoonish vision of what this person is, which is always nothing like the incels themselves. They have several online groups and meeting places. They egg each other on in their perceived unfair slights from women. They view it as they are the victims and therefore women are choosing to leave them out on purpose, so it can escalate quickly. That Jake Davidson was active in several online groups for incels and in at least one of them on the day before and the day of his attacks they were encouraging him in his ravings about going to shoot people up.

Its completely ****ed, as ridiculous as the story of the 6 year old that shot their teacher was, the more insane bit was that the kid had been searched earlier in the day? In what sort of world do you daily search 6 year olds for a Saturday night special?

Realistically the laws around concealed carry and such have little to zero impact on mass shootings. We could make them go through a 5 year waiting period or take it to any extreme you want and some incel somewhere will just take his uncles guns and go shoot up a bar somewhere. It has nothing to do with concealed carry. This is a big part of the problem imo, is that legislation focuses on what riles people up, not what actually impacts the availability of guns for the ones with mental health issues. How often do you hear about some random regular guy with a concealed carry permit who suddenly pulled out his concealed gun and started randomly shooting? No the vast majority of these WANT you to know they have a gun and intend on killing people. They want to invoke fear and terror as it makes them feel powerful. Concealed carry and other such laws are strange hills to die on when they have virtually no impact on mass shootings. Other than they are hot-button topics to keep the base engaged and voting.

I mean who do you want to vote for, the politician saying we need to improve our access to mental health care and, yeah find better ways to restrict access to guns, or the politician pounding the pulpit yelling "AND I WILL ELIMINATE CONCEALED CARRY TO PROTECT US FROM THOSE SECRETLY CARRYING GUNS INTO OUR STORES AND SCHOOLS!!". Reasonable and effective will never overcome irrational and boisterous.

I'd heard the term but I had to look it up. I didn't realise they were organised? You'd think they'd just go on like a sex tourism holiday in South East Asia? What's the American equivalent of a lads trip to Thailand? Can sexual starvation lead to murder? Post grad thesis waiting to be written.

I vote for the politicians who want to do both. I think we can walk and chew gum at the same time. It might require blowing the filibuster and it might require billions in new health care funding and gun regulation/manipulation of insurance/federalized gun buybacks.

I didn't say that cc is the primary cause of mass shootings. However, accidents with cc happen all the time. Just a few years ago a teacher in Utah shot herself while in the restroom. I once worked at a school where the cc gun was left on the TP dispenser. The untrained idiot left it there. I think CC and open carry nonsense with zero training contributes to the illness of our gun culture.

The only place in the US where prostitution is legal is in parts of Nevada, specifically those counties with less than a certain population, which excludes Las Vegas and... whatever the capitol city is, I want to say Carson City? Anyway, any of the sparsely populated counties, unless they choose not to allow it.

Personally, I think prostitution should be legalized and regulated, even licensed like a hairdresser.

Any sale of a gun from one private citizen to another must be completed under the supervision of an FFL who is paid a fee and conducts the background check.

That already is the law in California. All changes in ownership of any firearm in California require parties fill out Form 4473 and have an FFL do a background check. In California you can’t even loan a firearm to a family member for more than 30 days without needing to go to an FFL for background checks and documentation.

You can still have a 2nd amendment while regulating guns, discouraging gun ownership (clearly it makes our society less safe), and holding people accountable.

Like how we could have a 1st amendment while regulating speech, discouraging the voicing of any unpopular opinion, and using the law to hold people accountable for unapproved speech?

The reason the gun control arguments voiced by the ignorant are dismissed is because they propose solutions that are already in place and misunderstand statistics. This mass shooting was in California where they already have nearly everything short of banning the 2nd Amendment in place. It doesn’t solve the problem because it doesn’t address the problem. The only thing your ideas bring about is delivering more power to authorities. As evidenced by California, it doesn’t stop people from getting shot. It makes an authoritarian police state inevitable.

It isn’t the 2nd amendment causing mass shootings. It is the 1st amendment. LogGrad98 came closer to hitting the nail on the head than anyone else in this whole thread. The United States is the only nation on earth to defend all speech as strongly as we do, and some of that speech as delivered via curated feeds has consequences such as mass shootings along with a host of other societal rot.
