It's really difficult choice among CJ, Neto, and Withey. Before the exhibition season, I like everyone else would've said CJ is the odd man out, but now, how can you cut a guy who plays with such passion and intensity? He just flat out brings it every time he's on the court. With small ball in, he's a guy who can play lock down defense on two guards as well. We have Bolomboy to develop, and we have four other bigs who can contribute. Neto has looked good too, but we already have three good point guards. So, should we have four point guards and five bigs, or three PGs and six bigs? A guy like CJ could develop into a player like DMC, though probably not as good.
 
He reminds me of Price. Mostly trash, but plays his *** off, and has a few highlight plays.

I love his hustle. Is there room for him and Chris Bosh though? ;-)

He's much improved this year, I think. Withey provides a greater need at his position, but guys like CJ are hard to find. Look what happened with DMC. He was better than CJ, but not significantly better, and we let him go and he blew up. CJ has a good outside shot and could potentially develop into a 40 percent 3-pt shooter. And he plays defense with the same intensity of DMC. We shouldn't let this guy go.
 
Long-time CJ supporter here. I'd rather him make the team that Withey. I think.

I'd rather Gobert, Favors, and Diaw play the 5 than Withey. That sorta leave Withey with zero minutes.

His defense really isn't good though. He struggles to defend without fouling. His shot is terrible. He is a great hustle player and rebounds well.

Until Gobert or Favors go down.

The zero minutes also applies to CJ and there is absolutely no reason to play a wing that can't hit a wide-open corner 3.

Agreed - he's in the 20's percent wise from both corners. How many of those misses result in transition baskets for the other teams? You can't have that.

Real jazz fans like myself remember a guy nicknamed Junk Yard Dog. We let him go cause people said this about him. Rest of us saw potential an he went on to be a All Star. CJ is are next Wesley Matthews an we need to lock him up pronto.
 
You guys who say CJ can't shoot are not really looking at his shot, his form, his release. Potentially he could be a good 3-pt shooter. DMC's shot wasn't any better and maybe not as good. I also disagree with those who question his D. He moves his feet well and his hands are active, and he's very fast, much like Matthews who could really get down the court quickly -- not sure after his injuries if Matthews still has that flash of speed though. In any case, Matthews and DMC both blew up after we let them go. I think we will be making a similar mistake with CJ, though he probably will never be as good as those two.

Probably not really comparable. We knew we wanted Matthews we just didn't want to match what Portland offered him. With DMC the comparison may be more valid but my fuzzy recollection is that we similarly knew DMC was starting to be pretty useful but wanted to go another direction or didn't want to pay what the market was willing to pay. Nobody is beating the door down or waiting in line to pay CJ and entice him away from the Jazz. If his shot were more reliable they might.

It was a money issue with Matthews. With DMC, Corbin was the one who held him back and I think that had a role in the Jazz losing him. Matthews is a more similar player; he didn't have a great 3-point shot when he came to the Jazz. He was a slasher. I still don't understand why people keep saying CJ doesn't have a good shot. I think they are looking at stats rather than his actual shot.

How many teams tell a player, "you have a nice looking shot so, even though it rarely goes in the hoop, we really want you"? Eventually your value is in your production. I like a lot of what CJ does but until he proves otherwise his shot is a liability.

As for Matthews, he made 63 3-point shots with the Jazz -- shooting 38% on threes. And he shot 48% overall. From almost the moment he got playing time due to injury he started making things happen. CJ has never come close to providing the kind of value or showing the promise that Matthews did. Otherwise Portland would have tried to steal CJ from us by now.

I never said CJ was a good as Matthews; I said they are similar type players. As for his shot, I still dispute you because you're going by stats. I've been to a few Jazz games in person and CJ has a good stroke. He's 84 percent career from the foul line and I believe he could shoot 40 percent from three.
