So that is a pretty reasonable take on it.

I didn't think that this sort of shutdown was really necessary. Masks, shields, uv lighting over tables and counters and somewhere in the air conditioning..... we could still be in business practically speaking.

I haven't done the research, but there's good reason to believe sunlight, hottub chlorine, and fine alcohol are significant factors mitigating the need for social distancing or Quarantine.

social distancing and quarantine are less speculative, lower risk sure shots though.

Again, maybe "seeing things" that aren't really there in our differences.

I'd be a amazed at any conservative who twists believing in less governance and more opportunity into the notion of "being victimized because of their ideology". Clearly, they would likely feel "victimized" by irrational government orders to shut down their business.

The bit about "justice for marginalized communities" isn't all that owned by liberals. Most people just believe in helping others when they see the need.

I don't like all the government orders. I'd prefer life with risk over compelled irrational dictates any day. But it's a bit beyond the pale to expect governments not to behave in this way when there is a belief in a pandemic that could kill zillions.
 
Shut downs were not necessary. There were other options especially if the country acted early. Testing and isolating the sick early with good tracing could have prevented large shut downs. Isolating everyone entering the country until they were properly tested was also needed early. I don't think Americans would have agreed to set up all those things you listed and wore those things. People aren't even willing to put a simple mask on in public.

Utah has seen 55 of its 107 deaths since 5/4. May has been our deadliest month. At 5/4 our average number of daily new cases was at 125. Now it’s over 150. Just today we had 215 new cases, a new high.

Then, there’s the issue with states like Florida and Georgia, that are playing it loose with their numbers.

Spain : 920 excess deaths per million people
United Kingdom : 890
Italy : 780
Belgium : 750
Netherlands : 520
France and Sweden : 370
Portugal : 270
Switzerland : 230
US : 200
Austria : 140
Germany : 70
Denmark : 60
Norway : 20

I expected a significant jump after things really opened up. It hasn't happened. Numbers are steady. A single day high does not mean much.

Until we start seeing 400+ infections day over day, I'm ready to get back to normal with sound precautions in place.

Opening up doesn’t mean ppl were out and about. Someone posted that traffic patterns the week things opened up showed not that many people were actually out.

I agree about one day of results meaning little. Now 3-4 days in a row, and it’s alarming.

We’ve changed from the idea that the rates will skyrocket if things open up to ‘the rates aren’t dropping as fast because we‘re opening up.’ Soon we’ll be arguing that ‘had we not opened things up, we could have nearly eradicated this!’
